It was fine
Pros:

Had a middling hotel experience, hence the 3 stars.

Maybe I built up my expectations a bit, but when I paid for a “courtyard view” and just got a first floor room with a “view” of a brick wall it was pretty disappointing and felt like a rip off since I paid the same as the people with an actual courtyard view.

The room was cleaned acceptably, but not sparkling. However, the rug was pretty grimy. The in-room amenities were extremely sparse. No water bottles or any nice touches. It was smaller than what I saw in pictures here.

Security felt flimsy as the door seemed like I could open it if I just put my weight into it since it was loosely latched. During the day it’s also possible to just walk straight into the courtyard without being a guest so it’s fine, but not confidence inspiring.

Customer service was fine, with typical New Orleans character.

Charm, Beautiful Court Yard & Location
Pros:

Love this hotel have stayed here since the 1984 Worlds Fair whenever rooms were/are available, Charm, Beautiful Court Yards, Location, Location & Location! 1/2 block from Jackson Square and a block & 1/2 from Bourbon. Wonderful helpful Staff. The only thing missing is a little more Southern Hospitality…coffee, juice, croissant’s, sweet rolls & fruit that was graciously provided in the past.

Solo trip to Nola
Pros:

The Hotel is great. The staff treated me amazingly well and are very helpful. The hotel is beautiful. For being such an old historical building is incredibly modern and luxurious. It’s centrally located right next to Jackson Square and just off asked Royal Street.

Old world charm with modern conveniences

Old world charm with modern conveniences, Excellent location within walking distance of most shops and restaurants in the French quarter. Staff was very nice and helpful. We stay here every time we come to New Orleans.

Great experience
Pros:

Place D'Armes was fantastic! Very friendly helpful staff. Room was very clean and comfortable. We had a balcony room and was a great size. Not noisy even though we were there when Mardi Gras is ramping up. Great location to popular sites in the french quarter! Would highly recommend a stay.

Beautiful property with amazing staff!!
Pros:

My girlfriend and I got off of the cruiseship in New Orleans and it was pouring rain and very cold.. It was around 9:00 AM when we got to this hotel. Patrice was so warm, sweet, and accomodating to say the least! We were cold and soaking wet. All we wanted to do was have her store our luggage until we could check in at 4:00 pm. She figured out a way to get us a room immediately! The room was updated, clean, large, and yet cosy and romantic. The property is beautiful and kept up very well. The location is perfect as well.. And then there was Andrew who helped us with our luggage. It was a torrential downpour and he was so very helpful and personable! The next morning he ordered us a taxi and the taxi was there within 5 minutes! I cannot recommend this niche hotel experience enough! We will be definitely going back to this hotel. Thank you Patrice and Andrew for making our stay so enjoyable and comfortable! You both are amazing!!

The Good and the Bad.
Pros:

The hotel has a great location the French Quarter. Hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. We stayed in a "courtyard " located room. The courtyard is open to the elements and has a large selection of tables and chairs for guests to enjoy. The hotel allowed haunted New Orleans tours into the courtyard on multiple nights and times. Noise generated by these visits was noticeable and disturbed our sleep. Also, I question hotel security with large groups of non-guests roaming around. Hotel guests returning late night also added to the noise problem. Area should have signage asking guests to be respectful of other guests from a noise standpoint. I would not recommend a courtyard room to potential guest wanting a restful stay.

Home away from home!
Pros:

Our stay from January 2026 was absolutely GREAT! Our room was excellent, but the staff was over the top OUTSTANDING! Everyone was friendly, helpful and so pleasant to speak with, especially Rody and Kieron - so helpful with restaurant and bar recommendations! It felt more like we were staying in someone’s home than a hotel.

We can’t wait to visit again!

Perfect location to explore
Pros:

We loved our stay at Place d’Armes. Rody at the desk was friendly and shared some restaurant recommendations. The location was perfect for exploring the French Quarter and the courtyard room allowed for quiet evenings after busy days.

Beautiful Garden Area & Great Location
Pros:

My second stay at Place D’Armes. A beautiful quaint historic building with a gorgeous garden patio area that’s wonderful for evening cocktails and morning coffee. Perfect location and close enough to walk around the French Quarter, Jackson Square and Bourbon street. We never needed our car. Our room was small in the Magnolia area but I wanted to be on the patio and it was wonderful. (A side note don’t eat at Tujagues awful food/experience.)

This historic location is the most convenient hotel in the French Quarter. Wonderful staff. Clean and comfortable.
Pros:

Any shortcomings (tiny elevators, ramps and doors between buildings) were handled with a walker, but not easily. Would be challenging to the chair bound. Any others might find the Place d’Armes a bit Spartan, but location, staff and price are most appealing.

Great location. Poor quality
Pros:

The pros: Location, location, location.
The cons: Believe the other reviews when they say the walls are paper thin, even in the courtyard it is loud.
Rooms are small.
Stairs getting to the second floor are small and dark. Not easy to get luggage up. Absolutely no room at the bathroom vanity/mirror. The toilet/ shower area is so small that if you want to close the door to have privacy, you have to step in the shower.
A courtyard view in our case was a view of a alley parking area and a brick wall 20 feet away.
Stay here for easy access to everything but don't expect anything close to upscale.

Location location baby
Pros:

It’s all about location here and it’s perfect! So easy to walk anywhere from this hotel, right in the heart of the French Quarter.
Our room was on the top floor and was quiet and peaceful, a bigger bathroom would have been preferred but we managed. Rooms were serviced daily.
I’m not sure I’d want a courtyard room with the noise from pool users and people walking by.
Also we saw a lot of rats around the outside area (not the hotels fault) so being higher was better.
Free fresh coffee was great but it’s a shame there are no breakfast options.
I would recommend to anyone visiting NOLA and would definitely stay again.
Parking was expensive but easy

Great weekend stay.
Pros:

Right in the heart of the French Quarter with easy walks to get most anywhere. We made use of the onsite parking. It was so easy to get our car whenever needed. Having a car in New Orleans changed our entire trip. We made time to explore Jean Laffite National Reserve and Grand Isle. The staff were always very polite and friendly. If I were to have suggestion, the bathrooms could be cleaned a little more thoroughly and the towels and toiletries could use an upgrade. We had a few towels with small holes from being worn thin. I would highly recommend staying here. The courtyard was beautiful and the history of the hotel adds a whole other dimension.

Southern charm, best location in NOLA!
Pros:

Fabulous location, gracious and helpful employees throughout. This hotel is walking distance to Jackson Square AND to all other sites in NOLA. The hotel provides coffee only BUT you can buy these delicious pastries at Croissants d’Or, or go across the street to get small empanadas (sweet or savory) at Empanola. There are 2 restaurants next door—try Vampire Cafe for breakfast.
Patrice at the front desk is wonderful and will give you great recommendations. I will definitely return to this hotel!

Gem of the French Quarter
Pros:

My wife and I visit New Orleans every 2-3 years. We've been together for 25 years so that's a lot of trips and we have stayed at the Place d'Armes for almost all of them. The hotel embodies French Quarter charm, the rooms are comfortable and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. I only wish they'd bring back the breakfast. I'm an early riser, so the pastries made the early morning sweet while I'd wait for my wife to wake up!

If you are looking for a great stay in the French Quarter this is the place to be.

Excellent Anniversary Stay Year After Year!
Pros:

We stay at this hotel each year for our anniversary (this year #47!). We stay here because the front desk and concierge personnel are friendly, helpful and professional, the location can't be beat located in the French Quarter on a quiet street but short walk to all things (Jackson Square, Restaurants of all types and price ranges, sites to see, shopping, etc.). Rooms are clean, sometimes a little small (but a very good value), the rooms and hotel in general are nicely maintained, the rooms are cleaned daily and towels replaced.
