Great hotel, Great location, would recommend
Pros:

Better than expected. Having read previous reviews I was a bit worried, but our experience was a very good one. All staff were welcoming and friendly and accommodating. rooms were large and clean. A lot quieter than I thought it might have been which was a bonus. fabulous location, only 5 minutes from the Cavern Club, 15 from Albert Dock. breakfast was a buffet, no biggie there’s no fried eggs, there’s plenty of everything else. Would definitely stay there again.

Perfect Stop Over
Pros:

We had such a lovely stay! The location is spot on—just a five-minute walk into the centre, which made everything so easy.

Every member of staff we came across was genuinely friendly and welcoming. A special little shoutout to Trina, who was absolutely lovely and took the time to show us around the cave downstairs—such a nice touch!

Our room was huge, clean, and tidy, with lovely fluffy pillows and a super comfortable bed. The fresh linen was great, and we were in room 214 on the second floor, which was really quiet—perfect for a good night’s sleep.

I’d seen a few comments about mould on the windows, which I must say doesn’t look very nice.but it’s worth mentioning this is on the outer window, as there’s secondary glazing separating it from the room. You can’t physically access it, and given it’s such an old building, it didn’t impact our stay at all.

Breakfast each morning was also really nice, with a good variety and plenty of choice.

Overall, a really friendly, comfortable place—we’d happily stay again! 😊

Bonus: we parked with Q-Park and got a discount through The Dixie Dean Hotel, which made it really reasonable. It’s literally just behind the hotel—about a two-minute walk.

I’d highly recommend the Magical Mystery Tour, which gives you access to the Cavern, also a trip to the Royal Liver Building. For food and views, Panoramic 34 has some of the best panoramic scenes in the city. And to finish a trip down the Mersey.

O’Neill’s Liverpool was also a good shout, and we really enjoyed some live music on a retired tugboat—The Daffodil—down at Royal Albert Dock.

Tired but very welcoming!
Pros:

Great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of it. Beds were comfortable and bedding and towels were very clean. Why 2 stars? 2 reasons- we were woken 2 nights by loud noises and laughter in the corridor and the adjacent rooms. 5 separate times on night 1. The second reason is the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. Inner windows in bedroom were filthy and thick with mould. It would be a simple fix for the cracks in the bathroom flooring.

disappointed
Pros:

This is not a luxury hotel at all, you can see it once was many years ago.the whole room needsa cimplete refurbishment. The windows have mould all around, the fixtures and fittings in the room need replacing. The beds are not comfortable and the bedding is not luxurious as advertised. The bathroom is a health hazard the jacuzzi blows black scum into the bath all jets are filthy as well as plug holes. The seal around both bath and sink are disgusting, you can see years of dirt and grime on the padded upholstery. The bathroom floor has many rips in it. I've got bites upon my body and the breakfast is a complete disaster fresh out of the kitchen and stone cold all hot items cold. The bacon tasted off and stank. I would not return even for a free night. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Hen Party Central!
Pros:

The Dixie Dean was ideal for our hen party group. The rooms were ideal and the main room had hot tubs, plenty of space and mirrors for getting ready!! We were in the cave so it was our own party central and didn't bother anyone else with our noise! All the staff were excellent and went above and beyond, including the night manager when we rolled in with food after partying! Location was ideal as it's so close to everywhere and walking distance! Very clean with housekeeping calling daily. We had breakfast every morning and the food and cocktails were lovely! Overall, excellent spot and good value! exactly what hen parties look for!

Large group hen weekend.
Pros:

We recently stayed at the Dixie Dean Hotel for three nights as part of a hen party, and it honestly exceeded all expectations.

From the very beginning, the experience was smooth and well-organised. The hotel sent a pre-check-in link ahead of our arrival, which was incredibly convenient and made everything feel hassle-free. When we arrived around 12:30pm, we were warmly welcomed by reception, who kindly stored our bags so we could head out for lunch without any worries.

Once we returned and checked in, we were blown away by the rooms. We had a mix of accommodations including the 8-person Cave Suite, two 6-person rooms, a 4-person room, and a twin room. Every single one was beautifully presented, spacious, and perfect for a group stay. The Cave Suite in particular was an amazing space for us all to gather—ideal for music, drinks, and getting ready before heading out.

The staff truly made the weekend special. Every member of the team we encountered was friendly, helpful, and genuinely excited for us and our bride-to-be. A special mention to the night manager, who went above and beyond trying to track down remotes for us, and the bar staff who even stepped outside to take a group photo. One of the receptionists also joined us for a picture, which just sums up the warm and fun atmosphere they created.

The beds were incredibly comfortable, which meant that even after late nights, we still managed to get some quality rest. Breakfast each morning was a lovely buffet with plenty of choice, and the staff were attentive and chatty, always interested in hearing about our night and what we had planned next.

The location of the hotel is another huge plus—it’s so central that getting to all the venues we had booked was quick and easy, which made the whole weekend run smoothly.

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for such a special occasion. The combination of beautiful rooms, fantastic staff, and a perfect location made it a weekend to remember. Highly recommend for group stays or special celebrations!

DO NOT STAY HERE
Pros:

AVOID
This hotel was a huge disappointment , after wanting to stay here for a while I booked 3 nights for my husbands birthday as we was going on a tour of Hill Dickinson.I was so deflated they gave us a room to sleep 6 people a huge room with 3 beds you couldn’t see the tv ,it wasn’t a nice room , there was suspect stains on the sofa ,very tired room .I went to reception and said I’m confused I booked a double room were a married couple we want a cosy room. She said this is the room booking .com dropped us in I said well why when I booked a double with spa bath ??
She did swap rooms and the other one was double which was better but filthy .
As soon as getting in there the people next door were yelling and banging on the wall who knows why but we just ignored it.
The bathroom floor was mouldy ,there was so much dust everywhere ,the kettle had to be plugged in in the bedside table as it was the only place to reach , we just put up with it as the tour was the following day and I felt like I didn’t want to complain again.
The following day was breakfast , awful quality the sausage was inedible, hash browns weird tasting and mushy, a few croissants to choose from with a jar of Nutella just put out with a knife in. We left for the tour around 11am and put the please clean our room on the door.We arrived back a round 15.30 and the sign had gone off the door and put back inside so assumed they had been went in , the bin was still full , bed not made our dirty towels taken but not replaced no toilet roll left and no milk filled , we thought was strange as they’ve moved the sign .We decided to go for food and on the way down ask reception about the room ,when speaking to the receptionist another woman was yelling from a side room saying that the housekeeper is still on site something about st Patrick’s day and that they will be finishing the room soon , I said if they can just leave towels ,toilet rolls and milk that will be fine we said thank you and went for food , after being over an hour we went back wanting a shower and a rest ,went in room still no towels I rang the number no answer , we went back down and said we still have no towels she seemed shocked saying they was told to go back I said well that haven’t and we need towels (a simple thing in a hotel stay ) the towels were awful quality by the way .She said I will bring them myself so we went back up waiting to have a shower , after half an hour 2 barmen came up with towels , 2 had used toilet rolls and a cup of milk ,I said I cat have the cup of milk I have no fridge and where have them toilet rolls come from I took them and they left .We decided we can’t stay and packed to go home on leaving we told receptionist the problems she said she will leave notes on the computer , I’m trying to get a refund through booking .com but the hotel is not agreeing to our issues . This hotel is an insult to a legends name

Stay away
Pros:

Had booked our stay - a double room with Spa Bath several months prior to our stay, booked this hotel for its location to Lime St Station and the Empire Theatre.
On arrival we were given room 102, a huge room with three large beds. I went to reception to explain I had booked a double room - I was told we had been upgraded!, I explained there was only the two of us, that I wanted a double room as per my booking (not a dormitory), the receptionist showed no interest again starting it was an upgrade.

The room was dirty and disgusting, the photos seen online at time of booking DO NOT REFLECT just how bad this place is.

Furniture stained/damaged, bathroom stained/dirty/damaged. The whole room is very tired, it felt like being in a coffin.

The noise in the early hours by fellow guests was excessive - this was the same leading up to breakfast time in the morning. Quality of food very poor.

All of this for £210.00 a night, it was a very disappointing stay and ruined our trip to the theatre/visit to Liverpool.

Avoid
Pros:

recent family stay at The Dixie Dean Hotel from 16th-19th of february room 103. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below the standards we expected, and I feel it is important to bring these issues to your attention.

From the outset, our stay was disrupted by repeated disturbances from other guests knocking on our door and running off. This was followed by extremely loud thuds and banging from the ceiling at around 1am, which made it impossible for us to rest.

The condition of the room itself was wholly unacceptable. There was visible mould around the windows, mould in the bath corners, and the bathroom floor was heavily marked. The floorboards were uneven and appeared to have dropped in places, creating both a safety concern and an unpleasant environment. Dusty furniture and litter left behind from a previous guest further demonstrated a lack of proper cleaning and attention to detail.

More concerning was the state of one of the beds. One of the mattresses had a visible urine stain, which is entirely unacceptable in any accommodation, let alone a hotel. Additionally, the beds were not zip-and-link as we had assumed. Instead, there was a noticeable gap between the mattresses, and they continued to separate throughout the evening, making it extremely uncomfortable.

Room servicing during our stay was equally disappointing. The only task carried out appeared to be emptying the bin, with towels left on the couch.

Breakfast was another low point. The food quality was extremely poor, with soggy hash browns, unappetising sausages, and not being replenished enough, and coffee that tasted strongly of mould. The service was equally lacking—tables were not cleared, and there were no check-backs or staff engagement throughout.

Additionally, the receptionist’s behaviour was unprofessional. While I stood waiting to be served, she walked off, preoccupied with her phone and twirling her hair, leaving me unattended. The reception area itself was dimly lit, and the corridors had an unpleasant smell, adding to the overall negative impression.

This collection of issues made our stay uncomfortable and disappointing. Given the number and severity of the problems encountered we tried to find alternative accommodation but could not find anywhere with a family room , we did not feel comfortable bringing these concerns to the attention of staff during our stay. The overall atmosphere and the lack of approachability from the team made us feel that our concerns would not be taken seriously or handled professionally.

The day after our stay i have tried contacting agoda who i booked through regarding this stay but the email they provided was incorrect. When agoda contacted the hotel they were less than helpful.

Do not stay here under any circumstances.
Pros:

I'd give 0 stars if it could. The room was absolutely disgusting. Brown marks on the carpet, bathroom floor was a biohazard, with copper wiring showing through and completely torn up. We wouldn't walk in there without socks on. There was old urine stains on the toilet. Black bits came out of the 'jacuzzi bath' and there was water damage all over the walls and padded cladding they had put up. Plus a huge stain on the sofa and cup ring marks on the desk, presumably from a previous guest. Evidently they don't care about cleanliness or fixing the issues for us. On top of this they have put up perspex to cover the black mould all over the windows. They said that's all they can do for a listed building but we both work in listed buildings and know it can be treated inside. We complained on our first morning and were told since we booked with booking.com that we had to go through them. Receptionist didn't even ask to see pictures or apologise that we weren't happy. Mind you I paid on arrival, not through the app so they (still) have my money. We spoke to booking.com and they tried to fix it with the hotel but apparently the hotel couldn't come to a resolution. So we packed our stuff to leave. Only on coming down with our bags packed did they then offer us to see another room. We explained we weren't confident it would be any cleaner and her response was 'Well, i don't know what your standards are!' Absolutely disgraceful response and so rude. The new room she allowed us to view hadn't even been cleaned from previous guests and was no better. Bathroom floor the same, scratches across the desk and water leak stains on the walls. We were supposed to stay for 3 days and paid £314. We stayed 1 night and wanted our money back. Obviously. We were told the receptionist couldn't authorise that and we had to wait until 1.30pm when the manager, Melanie, arrives. It was 10am. I now had to fork out another £150 to stay at the Premier Inn around the corner. Thank god they let us check in early so we could shower and enjoy our 1 year anniversary. We went back at 1.30pm to speak to the manager, who also didn't care to ask to see pictures of the room. Clearly they already knew the state of the room. After half an hour talking to her she told us she also couldn't authorise a refund and we had to wait for the general manager who was conveniently on annual leave. She told us she didn't know how long for or have her rota to tell us, even though we both work in hospitality management and know that if you're in charge temporarily, you know how long for. After telling her this she said 'maybe 10 days'... So 10 days then. We asked for an email for the general manager, and she refused to give us her 'personal details'. We just need a direct business email for the general manager. They have to have one, even if it's their personal email that they use for work. That absolutely can be given out. She then agreed to give us the email so we could email and send pictures directly. This couldn't have been handled any worse. Rude receptionist and completely unhelpful manager. As we are both managers, we know that you can't leave a business without someone who can handle and rectify issues. Plus it's bad business to have customers leave completely unsatisfied. We will never be back and we will be fighting for our money back.

Sarcastic receptionist but friendly bar staff
Pros:

As an Evertonian we just called in for drinks and to see if there was any Dixie Dean memorabilia (there isn't). There are 3 statues in reception, 1 of them looks a bit like Dixie but no idea who the other 2 were. The bar staff didn't know but at least they were friendly. I asked at reception and pointed to 1 statue and asked who it was. Receptionist said 'I don't know, I think it's Dixie Dean, you know who the hotel is named after'. So I asked about the other statues and she didn't know.
If you're going to be sarcastic at least know what you're talking about!

Great location
Pros:

Four of us stayed at the Dixie Dean in two rooms on a weekend break.
Positives:
All the staff we came across were lovely.
Really nice themed public areas
Rooms very spacious with everything you need - tea & coffee making facilities, iron & ironing board.
Breakfast - plenty of choice of hot and cold food
Great location - 10 minutes from Lime Street and 15 minutes to Albert Dock
Negative:
Would have given 5/5 but unfortunately the rooms were extremely dusty and tired. Desperately in need of a deep clean and refurbishment.
