Mixed Experience
Pros:

The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast fine. Most of the front desk sfaff were helpful and friendly. However, there were 2 that come to mind that were not as impressive as the others. The common areas need attention, especially the elevators. They made hard stops and the doors on one didn't always open. Thankfully, except for one time, I was outside of the elevator when that happened. I did mention the elevator to the front desk staff. The lobby does not make a good first impression, and one night there appeared to be a non-guest just hanging around outside the front of the hotel and that had a negative impact on my feeling safe there. This was not as positive an experience as my stays at other Hyatt Place Hotels.

Unforgettable stay in a bad way. Dingy and not a well kept facility in the room and common areas.
Pros:

Staff was pleasant and resolve the issues that I had.

Cons:

Room was not clean: pet hair on floor and table surfaces, lots of stains on carpet and bottom of bed, sheets were smelly, room was very humid and muggy even with AC on. Pull out sofa bed was broken (they did fix right away). Another family member had a room on the same floor and it was marginally better regarding climate and cleanliness.

Great atmosphere
Pros:

I really enjoyed the bar and restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the grilled salmon and the house-made pasta, and the drinks were well made, with a bartender who crafted a perfect old fashioned. The atmosphere was relaxing, with soft lighting and comfortable seating that made it easy to unwind. The staff provided excellent service throughout my visit, checking in at just the right times. It was convenient to have such a great dining option right at the hotel.

Think twice because room conditions are horribly unsanitary
Pros:

We checked in late at night after deciding to stop here and stay the night on a road trip. We disclosed we were traveling with our 4lb, 6 yr old poodle. They charged a $100 pet cleaning charge they said would be refunded after check out. They obviously assigned us a pet friendly room because we were smacked in the face with a thick, heavy, strong odor of pet cleaner and rancid ammonia smell from urine the second we opened the door. My husband tried turning on the outdated a/c unit under the window, which was horribly loud and would cycle through periods of time when it ran even louder and sounded like it was going to explode. He also cracked the window open, none of which helped, because the room and carpet was so damaged with prior pet stains. I developed a headache and a stinging sensation in my upper nasal passages from breathing in the horrid stench. We gathered our things and went to the front desk at 3am, fully ready to leave if there was nothing else available. The desk clerk told us they were fully booked but eventually gave us a handicapped room. We slept for a couple hours and I inquired about the $100 per deposit charge when we checked out the next morning. It was a different desk clerk and she informed me it was a flat $100 NON-REFUNDABLE pet fee. Even after their poor showing of their hotel standards and causing us inconvenience and discomfort, they offered zero compensation, not even an apology. She acted shocked and like it was the first she heard about our complaint, when told her I hoped they were working on that room they initially assigned us, as I told the night clerk it was uninhabitable and they should NOT assign guests to that room until its issues are fully fixed. It was obvious nothing had been passed on, or done about that room and I’m not confident anything was addressed after we walked out, either. We travel extensively and have never been charged a $100 pet fee and it’s clear that Hyatt is pocketing money from responsible pet guests and not holding irresponsible ones accountable for their own damages. The most we’ve incurred is a $30-$50 small dog fee/stay. Our one tiny dog cost more to stay here than it cost for my husband and I, in absolutely disgusting and unhealthy conditions. They’re obviously not putting any pet fee revenue back into room damage. It really makes one NOT want to be honest about having a pet, especially when these are the conditions they find acceptable to give us AND charge us an exorbitant non refundable pet fee, to boot. No one has been willing to compromise with us on ANYTHING. I’m an airline pilot and live in hotel rooms 1/2 of my life. This was the WORST hotel experience I’ve ever had, as far as basic sanitary expectations and standards that fell far below the bar!!! I would give zero stars if able.

Cons:

The hotel is dirty; the carpets and furniture are old, and the TV doesn't work. There is no microwave, and the air conditioner is so loud that you won't be able to sleep. The bathroom is tiny—you have to stand on the toilet just to close the door. The lobby reeks of chlorine—it’s so strong, like an open vat of the stuff, that it stings your eyes. The food isn't great. There are a lot of intoxicated people around. I chose the hotel based on reviews—there were a suspiciously large number of positive ones—but in reality, it’s barely a one-star establishment.

Surprised to find a good hotel at a relaxing area in Chicago!!
Pros:

The location was perfect for us and the atmosphere was perfect too, nice and not so congested. The room was big and I felt comfortable with having a couch in the room. The value was reasonable and not too expensive. The cleanliness in the room was kept up very well for those 3 days we stayed. The service was excellent; the staff was very helpful and always willing to answer any questions. I was happy to find out that they had an ice-cream popsicle as I was craving for ice-cream and instead of going out again after dinner, they surprised me with an ice-cream popsicle!!! It saved me a trip to have to go out again, it made my night to relax and enjoy the popsicle. Thank you!

Magdalena very helpful, Vonetta not so much
Pros:

We selected this hotel because it is close to St. Alexius Hospital where my wife was scheduled for a total knee replacement on Monday, 6/22/26. Her doctor told her she would remain in the hospital 1 - 2 nights. We checked in on 6/21/26 and booked the room for a 6/24 check out. Tuesday morning she learned that she would be discharged on Tuesday, so I checked out of the hotel thinking we would be charged for two nights. I was told that the bill would be emailed to me, which never happened. I was able to retrieve the bill through the corporate website. I discovered that I was being charged for the third night! I contacted your hotel and spoke with the person working the front desk and was told that I had to provide 48 hours notice to change a reservation. Terrible policy. There are several hotels in the area to choose from. We won't be staying at the Hyatt Place for her post-op follow up visits.
