Shangri-La Qingdao

We're a family with severe food allergies (gluten, which is nearly impossible to avoid in China). We had put off traveling for many years because of food safety logistics, but had to return to Qingdao, my hometown, on a family matter.

Kenta, Arthur, and the hotel staff went far above and beyond to accommodate us. We had a completely safe experience, and they even gave us an upgrade to a nicer suite with a fridge-- when that broke, they replaced it overnight with a DIFFERENT fridge. The allergen-free food was astonishingly good, and Arthur took the time to convert many dishes I haven't been able to eat for 20 years so I could have them like when I was a child.

It was honestly so touching I cried.

Our 4 yo and 7 yo were also completely obsessed with Cafe Yum, and would beg for us to go back constantly.

A few weeks later, my mother returned also on a difficult family matter, and they also went above and beyond for her. She was so surprised that everyone knew her name and could help her find safe foods as well.

I've seen reviews that the rooms are dated, and was initially concerned because we also have environmental allergies and often react to old hotels, especially in damp cities like Qingdao. However, everything we saw was pristine, welcoming, and luxurious.

I don't care about decor modernity, but I do care about cleanliness and comfort, and it was wonderful :)

Tip: Totally pay extra for the kids room setup. I did it on a whim and it was SO WORTH IT, the kids were just so delighted finding a million little animals and toys for them.

The location is perfect, close to the sea.
Room are very luxious and nice sea vieuw.
Rooms are very clean and no noice. Real value for money.
Very nice gym with big swimming pool and saune.
The service is perfect on all department.

Hotel was amazing from start to finish. Staff so friendly and helpful.
Location is great right in the center of city, plenty of shops and restaurants on your doorstep.
Food very good at breakfast

Excellent hotel, nice large rooms, with probably the largest bed I have ever slept in. Huge buffet breakfast and evening meals. If you want a seafood extravaganza, this is the place for you. The hardest part is choosing what to eat. All for a very reasonable price, so much choice.
Beer and soft drinks included.
The only negative for me was that I was unable to find a gin and tonic at the hotel.
Taxis are surprisingly cheap. 70 minute rides for only 200 yuan. Recommend visiting the waterfront for the light shows in the evening. And a 10 yuan taxi ride to Fifty-Two Bar. Excellent views and atmosphere.

Clean, staff don’t speak English but they use translators that actually work .
Overall the hotel is very comfortable and luxury.

My family had a lovely stay in Shangri La Qingdao. Everything was perfect, from location next to May Fourth Square station and a mega shopping mall MixC, very clean room to excellent customer service (special mention to York who helped us with check-in and Mr Yan who cleaned our room). I would certainly stay here again in my next visit to Qingdao.

We had a wonderful stay at Shangri La Qingdao in Aug 2025, thanks to the hospitality shown to us by the Valley Wing Manager Mr. Kento Goto and his team. We had a birthday celebration; the flowers we ordered were already arranged in our room when we arrived. We were also surprised by the room decoration, and also dinner table decoration for us at Shang Palace where we had our birthday dinner. The dinner was delicious and the service impeccable; thanks to the Shang Palace team. We were also presented with longevity noodle and a birthday cake. Private tours for us were also arranged efficiently. I noticed Mr. Goto was often around the lounge area and reception; his presence was inspiring, and I think ensured by example the high standard of Shangri La service was maintained.
We were rather upset when we arrived at the hotel, as Cathay Pacific Airlines lost one of our luggages. Mr. Goto took care of the delivery the following day. His thoughtful service throughout salvaged our trip to Qingdao, and made it a memorable one. Mr. Hardy Cui’s assistance and at check out also made our stay end on such a pleasant note. We look forward to return and stay at Shangri La Qingdao again.

Every time I come to Qingdao, I feel like I'm staying at home. The home I'm talking about is the Shangri-La Hotel. The manager and staff are all lovely. Even though some of them don't speak English very well, I can still feel their hard work. Thank you for making my stay so warm and comfortable. Thank you so much

There are rooms you want to spend time in, this wasn’t one of those. It was fine but I find Shangri-La in China has become old and tired.

Very nice room in the Valley Wing. The buffet breakfast is included daily (covering two persons per room). The restaurant at lobby level offers amazing choices with a high cooking and serving food stations, serving Chinese breakfast, pastry, Korean and Japanese food (for breakfast). The staff members are all polite and professional. For the daily all inclusive room rate of about RMB 2000 per night, it is a good deal.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights at the Valley Wing. Very professional staff at Concierge, Check-in/out, Breakfast Buffet and Housekeeping. This is a kid-friendly hotel. More-than-enough options at the breakfast buffet, had a chance to try some local specialties as well.

They converted one tennis court to an outdoor chidlren playgroun with a gigantic bouncy castle, even I (as an adult) find it fun. We have used the indoor pool as well. It was a rectangular pool (1.2-1.4m deep), nothing special. Must use swimming cap.

Right behind the hotel is a MixC Shopping Mall with all the international and luxury brands, however. I did not have time to visit.

We took a scroll from the Qingdao International Sailing Centre back to the hotel along the promenade in the evening and saw the spectacular light show at May 4th Square.

Will stay here again if we were to visit Qingdao again!

1. The service is poor - according to my experience with over 12+ Shangri-La hotels, this is the worst one.
2. Hardware is poor - 3 Elevators only 1 available in day and 1 available at night. The other one always in the rest. Toliet is old and not smart at all. Staff always push the door bell even "Do Not Disturb" light is on.
3. Staff is cold and not welcoming guests. Treat all guests as "dangerous" thief - all guests may either steal the points or steal the stay.

Great location, staff is super friendly. Everything is nearly perfect except the hotel is getting old.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Qingdao Shangri-La because only in this hotel I feel home away from home. Due to a sports injury just before my my recent trip I needed to change the initial room to better suit my current needs, the Shangri-La staff gave their utmost support to accommodate me, no questions asked. Thank you very much!

Excellent service

Great service and great staff. Connects to the local 7-11 so its super convenient. About a less than 10 minute cab ride (~1-2 USD) to every single attraction except the mountain.

I arrived early before the check-in time but was warmly welcomed by Mr. Kenta Goto and my room was early. I was also briefed on Qingdao sightseeing. All the staff displayed professionism in their area of service. Special thanks to Mr. Kenta Goto and Bella Liu for their assistance and attentiveness. Breakfast at Cafe Yum as well as the lounge are excellent. I also enjoyed my 2 spa sessions. Overall a very satisfying stay. Highly recommend.
