Spacious rooms, very clean, modern bathroom, and unbeatable location. The staff are warm and welcoming.
The shower takes an extraordinarily long time to change temperature; I turned the knob up because the water remained cold, then several minutes later the water became scalding hot and once again it took a long time to change temperature after adjusting the knob.
Also, the morning front desk staff could be faster at checkout.
It was so spacious! Room was hugeee food was delicious I actually had to order it twice 😭 this hotel was a 10/100000! I’m definitely coming back!
The hotel was close to the VCU Massey Cancer Center.
This is an old run down hotel that was probably a great place 40-50 years ago. Unfortunately, they still bill themselves and price themselves as a cut above when they most certainly are not.
Pet friendly
Wasnt anywhere to take my dog to use bathroom, no trashcan in kitchen , barley any shower pressure and Luke warm,. Just not comfortable.
I had an amazing experience at the Commonwealth. I drove in from New Jersey to go to the VMFA to see an exhibit. Arriving at the Commonwealth I was greeted by Eric. He was very polite and friendly. I felt like I was arriving to a familiar place by his greeting. He was very informative about the history of Virginia, the hotel and places to eat nearby. I was impressed by the size of the rooms. It gave that at home feel. I wind up falling asleep on the sofa very comfortably. The hotel and rooms are extremely clean. The rooms are with the money. I would choose the Commonwealth on my next trip to Virginia and highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel staff were very personable especially, Eric, the valet supervisor. He opened our car doors, took our luggage to our room and greeted us each time he saw us.
The room was nice and clean. The tv’s guide did not load but we didn’t mind too much since we did not spend a lot of time in the room. I appreciated the mini fridge working properly as I needed it for breastmilk storage and have had issues tracking in the past.
Great spot in the city, right next to a park, dog friendly (with a fee), nice large room but only one small window in the bedroom without any view. The highlight was Eric our Valet’s very warm and helpful welcome!
Great hotel excellent service at the valet. Eric from the valet made sure I felt welcome and was there for any help I needed!
Eric was amazing and took care of us. The service was amazing!!!!
Overall, I had a very pleasant experience. Elevators are small so take note of that in case you have a big party or lots of luggage, may have to make two trips. You can't beat the location as you're in walking distance to a plethora of things. I toured 3 apartments in this area and was able to walk to each one in less than 5 minutes--made apartment hunting in Richmond a breeze. Bonus point for having a microwave as a lot of hotels nowadays seem to not be putting them in the rooms any more. The Jefferson was exceptionally spacious and without a doubt would be this suite again!
Wish I could have checked in at least one hour early before 3pm, but my room was ready at 2:30 which ended up working out since I had two appts that I was able to get done prior to check-in. Smart-TVs in the room would have been great cause then you can airdrop or airplay from your phone--the button for streaming platforms didn't seem to work when I pushed the, but I had my tablet so I was able to stream shows that way. Elevators are small so take note of that in case you have a big party or lots of luggage, may have to make two trips.
Wonderful weekend getaway. Eric te valet was engaging and extremely friendly and accommodating. He is a gem of an employee.
I recently stayed at The Commonwealth Hotel as part of the General Assembly program, and it continues to be my first choice during the session. The hotel is widely regarded as the preferred option for legislative staff, largely because of its unmatched convenience and proximity to the Capitol. While the restaurant offers a limited dinner menu, the staff more than makes up for it. The restaurant team is outstanding, welcoming, professional, and full of great personalities that make long session days easier. The administrative staff is equally impressive, consistently responsive to both emails and phone calls. I highly recommend The Commonwealth Hotel to my peers working during the General Assembly and look forward to returning each year.
On a very busy weekend the front desk service was very friendly and helpful. The doorman and valet, Eric, was very personable. He made our stay a pleasant one. Thank you.
I stayed here during a snow storm so I would be able to easily get to work. It turned into the most inconvenient ordeal ever and a huge waste of money. I parked my car where I was advised, in the parking deck across the street. Upon leaving at 630 am I was told by 3 staff members at the hotel that it would be impossible to get my car at that time . I therefore had to walk to work with all my stuff In 20 degree snowy weather. I went back after work and got my car stuck leaving the parking lot because by that time all the snow had been plowed in front of the exit. Thank god for Eric the valet who came out with a shovel to get me out, he was the ONLY helpful person. Turns out the 3 staff members from the morning were just too lazy to walk across the street to let me into the parking garage. 0/10 would I ever recommend this hotel to anyone. Worst experience and biggest waste of money ever.
Solitude
The fact that I had to pay valet parking and my car never made it to the garage. The staff was very friendly.
