What a great stay for NYE. Booked a junior suite and over moon to be given a high floor room facing the river Tyne. Check in lady was a little unpleasant but staff at breakfast were amazing. Special shout out to Tirso and team. Thanks
Beautiful suite overlooking the Tyne bridge. Lots of in room facilities and perfect location. Check-in staff were so welcoming - friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb, lots of options and great views over the Tyne. Our waiter Tirso went above and beyond - what a guy! So helpful and super friendly - really made our stay.
We stayed at the Malmaison for New years Eve 2025 🎉🎊🥂. We stayed in a bridge view room, I have no complaints from the minute we checked in till the minute we checked out. The hotel is fabulous, clean and tidy, and modern. All the staff were very polite and welcoming, we loved the bar, thank you to all the bar staff , who made the best Negroni, I would also like to give a huge shout out to Tessie who served us breakfast new years morning in Chez Mal, what a lovely person, very chatting welcoming and she made sure we had everything we needed, making our breakfast a perfect experience. Thank you Tessie 👍
This is the third year we have been to Mal Chez on New Years Day as a family for lunch. Each year Tessie has served us. She is fantastic at her job and extremely friendly. Service she delivers is second to none.
Enjoyed the New Years Day menu and would recommend.
We booked for new year’s eve & from the moment we walked through the door we were looked after by a wonderful reception team.
We requested a room with a view of the millennium bridge, & we were delighted with our room, as we watched the most spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
Our room was luxury & spotless.
We enjoyed drinks in the hotel bar on lead up to the big countdown, it was a great atmosphere.
Our highlight of our stay was at breakfast time as we were greeted by Tessie, a lovely lady with the most amazing Irish accent & a smile that would lift any hangover. Tessie was clearly great at her job, a people person with an amazing personality as she looked after everyone in the Chez Mal Brasserie.
We will definitely return to this hotel next time we visit this beautiful city.
Thank you Tessie & team for making us laugh & very welcome.🙏
All the best for the year ahead.
Harry & John ❤️
Stopped overnight on a DBB package. Thought it was excellent value. Cocktails in happy hour (before 7pm) were reasonably priced and really good. Dinner was great, really enjoyed everything we ordered. Bedroom was great - really liked the decor. Breakfast was excellent, good choice. Customer service was everything you would expect from a really good hotel. Tessie served us at breakfast and was outstanding - friendly, professional and really very good at her job. Really enjoyed our visit and will be back soon.
A lovely hotel which has an excellent location right on the river with lots of bars and restaurants in walking distance. The hotel itself has a calm, higher end atmosphere. The breakfast was lovely; it just got a little busy for staff to keep on top of towards the end of service (hence good, rather than excellent). However, our experience at breakfast was lovely.
This was our first time staying at the Malmaison and it won’t be our last!
The rooms were very spacious with great amenities.
The highlight was the breakfast service every morning. We stayed for 4 nights and every morning the team looked after us so well at breakfast. I want to say a massive “THANK YOU” to Tirso and the team for being the best and looking after us so well.
If anyone is wondering if you should get breakfast included I urge you to do so as Tirso and the team will make it all worth while!
We stayed here just before Christmas as a present to each other and it was an excellent hotel. The rooms have just been redone and we had a great view out over the river. There was a lovely welcoming vibe through the hotel. The food in Chez Mal was delicious (both evening meal and breakfast). All of staff were polite and professional but special mention to Tessie who was our server at breakfast - giving everyone a very warm welcome and taking care of her guests, it is nice to see someone enjoying their job working with people.
For a birthday treat we stayed at the Malmaison in Newcastle. A bit more expensive than we normally would pay but turned out to be well worth it. On arrival the reception staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and we were quickly at our room. The room was spacious ,well appointed and very comfortable. Spotlessly clean and well stocked with coffees and teas. The view from the window was brilliant. Looking out onto the River Tyne and its bridges and across to the Baltic art centre and The Sage (Glasshouse). The bar downstairs, again staff were helpful and efficient and a pleasant place to spend an hour or two. Breakfast was excellent. Many choices and well cooked. Tessie the server and waitress was friendly and very helpful explaining everything clearly and giving time to choose your type of breakfast. Very efficient . A credit to the hotel. The hotel is located away from the busier centre of the city but within walking distance.. Overnight was dead quiet no street noise and beds comfortable. Had a great nights sleep. Would recommend.
Good hotel, the room was lovely, disappointing spa facilities though, partial closures through the week and no accessibility to made an appointment when closed.
Another plus we found was the waiter at breakfast Tirso, very positive, I think he would be better served front of house given his happy positive demeanour.
Absolutely fabulous experience with Tirso at breakfast this morning. Couldn't have asked for better service, very attentive and super friendly! Would lovw to come back. The hotel itself is lovely too, with everyone going above and beyond!
We come stay here every year when we visit family, always a lovely stay and our highlight is always breakfast with the fantastic service from Tessie, she remembers us every year. Thanks so much
Tessie was the best host this morning. Breakfast was excellent and the service was even better.
Hats off to Tessie.
Thanks for having us
Brilliant night in the Ark Royal. Room brilliant and food too. Tirso serving breakfast is a lovely man and worked here 24 years....have a chat with him
Just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel.
We stayed for 2 nights on a Travelzoo deal (bed and breakfast) and opted to have dinner there on the first night.
Dinner was OK but nothing special so we opted to eat out the following evening.
Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of choices in both continental and cooked.
Beautiful, large, clean hotel with a good vibe to it.
Our room on the fifth floor was lovely, the only criticism being it was quite dark inside even with all of the lights on (couldn't actually see inside the wardrobe!) so we asked reception to bring us an additional standard light which they promptly did.
All of the staff were professional and helpful, especially the ladies on reception.
Car park with wide spaces is located just over the road.
Great location right on the Quayside and a 15 min walk into the city centre.
Cant wait to stay again, it was brilliant.
We had a fantastic stay the room was really spacious, clean and the bed was so comfy. Breakfast was really nice and the service from Tirso was fantastic.
I live in the south and have stayed at this hotel since its conception here in Newcastle!
I didn’t think this hotel could get better but it has, the upgraded decor is marvellous!
Can’t say enough about the service and meals as they’re great and words are in-suffice, but a special shout out for Tessie who made my stay perfect!!
Thank you ❤️
It was really lovely thank you. Really posh and such a good location. Thank you to Tessie for a lovely breakfast experience as well!
I've promised and forgotten to do this for years literally so today I promised myself I would.
We've visited Malmaison Newcastle a number of times over the years of often around Christmas/New Year but also the occasional Sunday lunch...aways fabulous...always great service and relaxed atmosphere.
Maybe coincidence but on quite a few occasions we've been looked after by Tessie.
She's the reason I wanted to make sure I did this review.
Extremely friendly...great personal service and just a lovely person to have look after you...can't speak highly enough of her.
