WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! - OLD AND OUTDATED
Pros:

This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had with a hotel.

The biggest disappointment has been the complete lack of customer service after my stay. I've made multiple phone calls and sent over 12 emails, yet I've been ignored for weeks. Every time I thought the issue was finally going to be resolved, nothing happened.

Spencer (Manager) personally told me he would take care of everything and make sure the issue was resolved. I trusted his word. Unfortunately, that never happened. Instead of following through, I was left chasing the hotel over and over again with no meaningful response.

The only thing I've been asking for is a corrected email with the proper dates so I can submit my refund request. This should have taken just a few minutes. Instead, they sent me an email with the wrong dates, making it completely useless, and despite repeatedly pointing out the mistake, they still haven't corrected it.

The hotel itself was also disappointing. The room was very small, outdated, and not nearly as clean as I expected. Between the condition of the room and the poor customer service, the experience fell far below what I expected.

What frustrates me the most is how simple this would have been to fix. Instead, I've spent an incredible amount of time making calls, writing emails, and following up, only to be ignored or promised help that never came.

At this point, I feel I have no choice but to share my experience publicly. I'll also be sharing my experience on other review platforms so other travelers know what to expect.

I gave this hotel every opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, they chose not to.

Poor management and mold. That’s not good!
Pros:

Casa del Camino is a mixed bag of experiences. My wife and I arrived a few minutes before designated check in and were quickly greeted and given our room. Nathan, the front desk representative was a dream. Personable, funny, a font of information, and genuinely a wonderful representative. That experience was a positive one.

After dropping off our luggage in our room we headed to the rooftop restaurant for cocktails and nibbles. The food was above average and served in a timely fashion. Things began to fall apart when we asked for our bill. Our server was unable to charge our bill to the room. He said, we had no credit card on file. We informed him that indeed we did and had given it to the front desk.…aka Nathan upon arrival at the hotel. We asked to speak with his manager or someone who could assist with the problem since he was stumped . Enter Rachel, Rochelle or possibly Raquel. Unfortunately I was unable to secure her exact name, and my apologies for not having her proper moniker.
The manager kept insisting we had to pay separate from the hotel. I asked her if this was normal and did they offer room charge as an option. While she agreed that they did give hotel guests this option, she made zero effort to troubleshoot or rectify the problem. I requested she speak with the front desk and that the two departments work it out. I then called the front desk myself and was assured it would be taken care of by them. Manager returns and is now indifferent, rolling her eyes and argumentative when I insisted that the problem was for the establishment to fix, not the customer. I shouldn’t have to go to my room and physically retrieve a card or back down several flight of stairs to the reception area.

Ultimately after much delay, poor restaurant management and even poorer guest relations, Nathan came to the rooftop and took care of things. I recognize problems arise, glitches happen, the mark of excellence is how these issues are handled. Nathan is an asset for sure, restaurant management, not so much!

My expectation of any hotel even a basic one like La Casa de Camino is that their departments will communicate and any problems will be addressed internally and it is not the burden of the client to troubleshoot or solve. Lesson learned that customer service not necessarily a thing at La Casa Del Camino.

It also is worth noting that the hotel room is in need of much maintenance. There are lights out , mold in the bathroom, broken tiles, rust mark, etc. in the bathroom and elsewhere. I found hair on the desk which tells me that the cleaning has not been thorough. Yes it’s a beach property, but that just means maintenance must occur on a more frequent basis to make sure that things don’t fall into disrepair and rust is addressed sooner not later. The hotel isn’t fancy. It t’s not The Montage (a lovely property we had the pleasure of staying on our last trip to Laguna) where everything is impeccable. It also does not cost as much as The Montage so we don’t have an expectation of 5 star services or facilities . That said, even a 3 star or comfort class hotel should be clean and well serviced. The included pictures are from our room. The pictures say it all.

In conclusion, it’s not bad, but it also isn’t great. It’s smack dab in the middle of mediocrity. And that’s too bad. The hotel has a stellar location, but poor management and maintenance are simply not acceptable

Pros:

location and price

Cons:

The upstairs bartender's gave the dirty glasses a very very brief plunge into the sink and done. Not sure if there is a small dishwasher there, did not look like it, but completely grossed out about the cleanliness.

The worst we have had. We will not stay there again.
Pros:

Rooftop restaurant and view, parking location and pass, location to attend Pageant of the Masters.

Cons:

The room was the worst experience I have had after having booked many rooms through Booking.com's website. The photos of the rooms are NOT representative of what we received. The room was narrow - you had to throw yourself into the bed on one side; the portable airconditioner was an eye-sore wiwth a huge silver vent snaking around the room; the sink faucet was not connected properly, the bathroom window had a huge crack in the glass, the furniture was more than "distressed", and the window shades were torn, one with a huge hole in it. We asked for rooms NOT on the street - specifically called in with that request when we booked the room months before - but that was ignored. The street rooms are very NOISY, LOUD, music beating through the night - we couldn't sleep. I would definitely request that management upload pictures that are ACCURATE so customers can make an informed decision. The staff was very new, and they didn't know answers to any local questions we asked. We also didn't get a call when our room was ready, so we stayed away from the hotel until after check-in time to ensure they were ready.

Our stay in the La Casa del Camino Casita was amazing! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Nathan at the front desk was so helpful. The room itself was so cute and so close to the beach. We would absolutely stay here again!

Would not recommend and not stay there again.
Pros:

Good location. Bed was comfortable. Parking was included.

Cons:

It all looks very rundown in the corridors and on the rooftop. It really needs new carpet there and everywhere it needs new paint. The bathroom fixtures are worn out, in fact, the whole bathroom is so small and lacks any of the amenities expected for a place that calls itself a “resort..” No Kleenex, no shower cap, none of the things that I expect from any decent hotel. No space to put anything (although I was told they were going to put up some shelves). The room had one bathrobe, although we were two, same for the water, only one bottle in the room. No hot drinks cups, no wine glasses, no coffee machine in the room, no ice bucket. The hotel was very expensive for what it was. I don’t mind paying for a good hotel, but this hotel was far below my expectations.

As for the rooftop, we had lunch there with a group of ten and we were the only people there. The server was super nice and he couldn’t help it, but one order came with a hair in it and it took about half an hour for the new order to arrive even though there were no other guests. The food was mediocre at best.
Then there is a lovely breakfast room next to the lobby, but no breakfast was served. It stood empty. Yet another disappointment.

Love this place
Pros:

I come to SoCal a lot and this place is almost like home to me…all the staff is friendly, helpful and highly efficient. The Rooftop is fantastic for watching the sunset and they just opened a great tapas restaurant on the lobby level. Great job.

An amazing history, appointed with everything you need, surrounded by everything you want to do, and with a lovely staff
Pros:

A hotel with an amazing history reaching 100 years into the past, appointed with everything you need, easily connected with everything you want to do, and graced with the loveliest and most attentive staff.

La Casa del Camino is a treasure of a place on the Southern California coast offering easy access to everything between San Diego and Los Angeles, with easy connections in and out through Orange County airport. Steps (literally) from the beach, local shops, bookstores, and boutiques, good coffee, fantastic restaurants, with public transport at hand just out the front door for things more distant. Very pleasant ten minute walk to the heart of downtown Laguna. Deeply comfortable rooms that welcome you with function and style. Two restaurants, one at the street level with live music and one on the roof with sunsets that go on forever. Quite simply, the only place to stay if life brings you to this part of the California coast.

A+++ location
Pros:

Perfect location … right at PCH with the ocean in view and just a stone throw away. In addition to the on/site restaurant and roof-top bar, there was plenty of shopping and every kind of food within walking distance. The room was small, but met our needs, but might not suit some who are more needy. With the ocean so close, who needs a pool?
