Great place if you want to relax, the location is perfect, rooms are specious and bathtub on balcony is the high point of it. The best part of stay was definitely the dinner and breakfast, the food was amazing and staff in restaurant was simply the best!
The accommodation was elegant and beautiful. Our room was quiet and it was lovely to have an outdoor tub. The public onsen was peaceful and the whole experince at Tsukino Yado Sara was unique and relaxing.
Traditional place, very nice room and very good private Onsen.
Traditional breakfast with many dishes
A beautifully presented ryokan with a strong sense of Japanese tradition. The room was comfortable and welcoming, with thoughtful touches like kimonos, pyjamas, and a well-stocked selection of toiletries. The restaurant’s presentation was impressive, and the overall aesthetic of the property was carefully curated. When I was unwell, the staff did make a kind gesture by sending something to the room and providing medicine, which was appreciated.
A few issues fell short of what I’d expect at this price point. The bathroom sink was clogged and drained extremely slowly, making basic tasks like washing hands frustrating, and there was no hot water from the toilet sink tap, which is simply not acceptable. At the restaurant, the shabu shabu experience was poorly guided. Staff neither explained the correct cooking times for the wagyu nor mentioned that rice is typically served as an accompaniment, only offering it mid-meal without context. Without any guidance, we unknowingly overcooked the wagyu, completely ruining what should have been the highlight of the meal. For a dish with specific preparation nuances, a brief introduction is not optional at this level, it’s part of the experience. English communication was also limited throughout. When I needed a plug adapter late in the evening, staff were unable to assist and I had to walk to a convenience store at 10:30pm. Finally, I was disappointed to learn that staying even one hour past checkout would have incurred an extra charge, despite being unwell and having both of us completely skipped breakfast. I chose to leave on time, but the lack of flexibility felt ungenerous.
Beautiful place in a beautiful town
It was a more traditional Japanese style of accommodation which was a fun experience. Pretty location overlooking the fast running river.
The Moon Rest rooftop garden needed garden care & attention.

The styling, the hot tub outside on the balcony.
Even though the breakfast and diner where very generous, and the staff where very kind and welcoming, the food itself was not the best we had and below our expectations
food was amazing. Kind and attentive staff. Altogether a wonderful stay
nothing
Heel mooie ruime kamers. Gratis ijsjes verkrijgbaar. Gratis kleine maaltijd in de avond verkrijgbaar. Publieke en privebaden mogen vrij gebruikt worden. Privebaden wel, indien niet bezet. Heel mooie en rustige rooftoptuin met SmokeArea. Tophotel!!
