decent sized room
I am writing to formally complain about my recent Friday–Tuesday stay at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. What began as an unacceptable room-condition issue turned into an ongoing customer-service failure that I am still trying to resolve days later.
When I first entered my room, there was an immediately noticeable and extremely unpleasant sour odor. Initially, I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt and assumed it may have been caused by a cleaning rag or product used in the room.
It was not.
The shower curtain was absolutely disgusting and was clearly the source of the odor. Simply touching it transferred the smell to my hands, and it did not easily wash off. I notified the hotel that morning, and the curtain was removed.
When I returned to my room around 7:00 PM after spending the day walking around New York in the summer heat, there was still no shower curtain. I was therefore unable to properly use the shower in a room I was paying for because the hotel could not complete something as basic as replacing a shower curtain over the course of an entire day.
The curtain was eventually replaced, but the response from the front desk amounted to little more than an apology. Given how unsanitary the original condition was and how significantly the hotel's handling of it inconvenienced me, I did not feel that simply saying "sorry" adequately addressed the situation.
The following morning, I returned to the front desk to explain my frustration and was told that a manager would contact me within 24 hours.
That call never came.
Then, the next morning, I was awakened by a knock at my door for housekeeping at approximately 8:00 AM. I cannot remember another hotel stay where housekeeping has knocked on my door at 8:00 in the morning without being requested.
I also began receiving multiple folios that did not even reflect the correct dates of my stay, showing Friday through Sunday when I was actually staying Friday through Tuesday.
The staff throughout the entire hotel was fantastic
We were in for just a night to attend family wedding close by. We had notified the hotel in advance that we were in need of an early check in so we could prepare for the wedding. We arrived later than anticipated due to traffic, and our rooms were still not ready. This was creating tension for my group because we didn’t want to be late for the wedding. Suria Yusuf stepped in and made the necessary adjustments to get us taken care of. I appreciated Suria’s genuine desire to provide a best in class experience while the hotel was extremely busy. Marriott is fortunate to have an Operations Director that cares so deeply about providing a great customer experience. Well done!
The parking fee
I rarely write negative reviews, but after more than a month of being ignored by this hotel’s management, I feel I have no choice but to share my experience publicly.
My husband and I checked in late at night for a two-night stay. The room was visibly unclean — dust had accumulated on the furniture, the bathroom sink had a crack, and no water was provided. Exhausted from travel, we decided to rest and address it in the morning.
The next morning, after returning from breakfast, we discovered blood marks scattered across the sheets. This is not a minor oversight — it is a serious hygiene and health violation that should never happen at any hotel, let alone a Marriott property.
I contacted the front desk immediately and requested a room change. Despite speaking directly with the Housekeeping Manager, who assured us everything would be handled while we continued with our travel plans, we returned to find the front desk had no knowledge of the arrangement. Our vacation time was wasted. The internal communication at this hotel is completely broken.
The room was eventually changed, but compensation was offered in stages — 1,000 points, then 5,000, then 10,000 — as though we were haggling over a health violation. The manager promised to follow up by email. He never did.
That was over a month ago. Here is what followed:
✗ Hotel manager never emailed as promised at check-out
✗ Marriott Customer Care promised a hotel response within 5 business days (June 4) — no contact from the hotel
✗ Case re-escalated on June 16 with another 5-day promise — still no contact from the hotel
Three promises. Zero follow-through. Not a single call or email from this hotel’s management team — ever.
I have photographs of the dusty room and the blood marks on the bedding.
Case #875859437.
Marriott — your guests deserve far better than this.
The hotel was very nice and our room was very spacious. Staff was nice and the hotel was walking distance to our event. However, I’m not sure why our tv was so slow or delayed that was the only downside to which we couldn’t fully enjoy the stay.
We (my wife, 2 college-aged sons, and me) were in town for a wedding and a good portion of the out-of-town guests stayed at this hotel. Like any big city downtown hotel, it wasn't cheap, but the location was good--near vibrant areas like Downtown Brooklyn and the DUMBO area..... You can relax outside in a public breezeway between the two hotel towers, which for me was a big plus. Also, there's a subway stop right behind the hotel...another big plus.....
We got a double room for 3 nights....and like other higher-end hotels we've stayed at, the beds were full size mattresses instead of true queen mattresses.... Why high-priced hotels choose to do this is a mystery to me since there was plenty of room to accommodate the bigger beds... So it was a tight fit for all of us, however, the room did have a couch, so it's possible to spread out a bit.... The beds themselves were comfortable, albeit a bit soft. The room was very nice. It had nice wall decor, a large TV, 2 fridges, room darkening curtains, nice and clean bathroom, ironing board and iron (we needed them!), a safe, and ample space to hang clothes.... Street noise was minimal. The lobby and common areas were very nice. The one drawback is the hotel doesn't have a pool anymore (i was told they closed it 3 years ago)......
The hotel charges a daily $30 "resort fee".... BUT, you can use it towards the cafe, which is located in the lobby area.... It's enough to cover, or almost cover, 2 take-out breakfasts.... So, it's not a total loss.
So, overall, it was a good stay and i would recommend this hotel.
Great location, large rooms, wonderful view, very friendly and helpful staff, nice choices for breakfast.
Small amenities e.g. Q-tips missing in bathroom!
Our room was furnished with one 20 long leather couch. Har and uncomfortable but no where else to sit. Exposed wire running down the wall.
Surprise $30 addon fee upon checkin
Excellent location, very friendly & helpful staff. I was traveling alone & felt very safe.
Need better lighting in bathrooms…too dim for putting on makeup.
Quick overnight stay for work in Brooklyn. Wasn't expecting much until Leonard in the M Club Lounge made our day with attentive and helpful service, a smile, and a good conversation. He's a gem!
Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend for a family wedding. It actually was a quiet respite from the hustle and crowds of Brooklyn. From the very first moments of arrival, being greeted by the helpful, friendly and smiling Nick at the entrance , I was amazed by the friendliness and service level of all the personnel. The reception staff, led the days I was there, by Lydia, were warm on a personal level so that I felt welcomed and appreciated. Every service from the bellmen coping with my copious amounts of luggage to the housekeeping staff, were professional, prompt and courteous.
The reception area is spacious and open with plenty of seating. The room was modern, clean and comfortable with lots of space to store all my belongings and great attention to detail.
While there is no breakfast made to order , the pantry with the specialty coffee bar had fresh and tasty offerings for breakfast, lunch and snacks. I had dinner at the restaurant one night after a long day and the food was outstanding.
Location wise pretty convenient, room size good, we stayed at higher lfloor facing Main Street and views are good
AC not working. Even we called maintenance and they tried to fix few times but still not running well. hotel did offer to switch room for us. But we don’t want repack and stuff so
