Magical setting!
Pros:

What a beautiful hotel in a magical setting! The hotel is located right on the water and is steps away from the quaint waterfront shopping/dining area. The wharf restaurants were wonderful and there is a wide variety of shops as well as a grocery store. Can't image a prettier place to stay.

Location. Location. Location.
Pros:

As small as Queenstown, parking is very difficult so the Crowne Plaza is strategically located in the city making all local attractions walkable. We chose to pay for the lake view which I enjoyed every day watching the sunset and drinking a glass of wine. The reception was friendly but differences in languages, English can be tricky at times and lacks that Asian hospitality. The filipino housekeepers were extremely kind reminding me of the same crew in a cruise ship. The room is dated but comfortable. However the centralize AC meant one temperature and this was a very cold night, the staff were kind to offer an electric blanket and a portable heater. For what the cost of the room, we expected it had its own AC control. More frustrating was that there is an AC control which could have been labeled accordingly.

It’s still a great option if you want to stay very close to the city and near the restaurants.

Location great but disappointing hotel in desperate need of refurbishment.

Location was really excellent.

Cons:

The hotel is tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. Rooms have showers over bath with curtain no walk in shower. The room furnishings were dated and uncomfortable except for the bed which was excellent. The breakfast was poor, we even didn’t bother the last morning. Eggs were powdered scramble egg, little choice of pastries and replenishing when empty was slow or non existent. The staff at breakfast gave no information on what was included or what would be charged as extra “à la carte” only a price list. No hot water available for tea. Nowhere near normal Crown Plaza high standards. Overall a disappointing stay.

Pros:

Location was the only redeeming feature of the hotel.

Cons:

This hotel was old, outdated, poorly maintained and represented very poor value for money. Would not recommend.

Our bathroom sink was blocked. There was no body lotion in the bathroom. The very small shower over a bath, tiny bathroom…… and yet, the price was through the roof.

Many other options for accommodation exist. Look elsewhere!

Seriously below standard
Pros:

We were booked, per our agent, for 2pm checkin. The person on reception, whose English was minimal, rather rudely told us no, it was 3pm. The room was not ready until 4pm. As ‘compensation’ we were given a card each for one free drink at the bar while we waited.
The so-called ‘accessible’ room had a double lip at the bathroom door, a serious trip hazard. And a thin shower curtain that trailed on the floor: again, a trip hazard.
The room safe was mounted on the floor, difficult to call that ‘accessible’ either.
The included breakfast was poor. The scrambled eggs were reconstituted dried egg.
Any other eggs had to be ordered 15 minutes ahead.
We observed that they often took longer.
Orders were also misunderstood, due to poor language skills - a request “Is this where we place an order for poached eggs?” resulted in the delivery of four poached eggs, for example.
The rest of the ‘hot’ food was cold. The baked beans were more sauce than bean.
In general, the hotel is tired and dated.
Some of the staff tried to be upbeat and helpful: others were surly and offhand.
Deserves no more than 3.5 stars

NICE HOTEL, EXCELLENT LOCATION
