location as usual
felty carpet with stains all over , most likely never been shampoo. very smelly . uncomfortable bed
they would need to remodel big time and change the carpets all over in the carriage house
Everything!
The ambiance. It feels haunted
It was across the street from the train station and there were bums and tweakers screaming at night
Like going through a time warp
Parking in a general parking lot
Location was excellent. Handy for bars, restaurants, transport etc.
Would have liked even just a vending machine even in the room with the tables so a snack could be purchased 24/7 although I accept it may not be in keeping with the general feel of the building.
Fun to stay in an historical locale and I liked the location.
The restaurant downstairs was not so great.
The Queen room was small but well-appointed and clean. Very satisfied with our stay here. It was very quiet, and I enjoyed our room view from the second floor because it was lined with trees. The bathroom was larger than expected and there was plenty of water pressure in the shower.
I have severe allergies and appreciated their *no pets* policy.
The restaurant next door is highly rated, as is the extremely reasonably priced cafe across the street.
Some irregular activity and unhoused people on the streets nearby. However we were able to park very close to the hotel. The price was high, yet was more reasonable compared to other locations. This area of California is just very expensive in the summer...
Hotel room was GREAT, GOOD location!!
The look and feel of the old victorian building was very nice.
All good. They provided us with a hotspot when the internet coverage failed.
Cleanliness, comfort, friendly and competent staff, period decorating.
Nothing to report
The location
We were stuck upstairs in a really hott room. The air conditioning didn't really work. I couldn't sleep. And I opened my window to people right outside of it 🚬.
I was in room 30 the first two nights. I like that you can open a window (widely) to allow fresh air in the room. The staff at the front desk were very accommodating. For my third night, they showed me several alternative rooms, and they gave me a more expensive room, in their Carriage House across the street, at no additional cost. More modern, spacious complex with newer beds and sheets. Room 56 was much quieter than Room 30. Thank you!
Room 30 faces the Hwy 101 freeway, which has traffic all night long... Although I enjoyed the fresh air at night, the noise kept me awake. My preference would have been a firmer mattress. This one seemed old, and the sheets, too, were not to my personal liking. They need to be upgraded or starched or bleached or something. They supply bottled water at the front desk; however, it is in flimsy, thin 16-oz. plastic—A bottle that crumbles in your hands while drinking from it. They need to get a water purifier for the lobby and get with the program. Get rid of those plastic water bottles! And why, oh why did any hotel ever get those silly pod coffee maker units? Hideous.
