None
Everything
Played golf on 31.01.26. Have played here before and cannot recommend the course enough. In fabulous condition for the time of year. A lot of bunkers were designated as ground under repair which tells me the commitment to ongoing improvements. Lovely, true greens, tee boxes are very good. Welcoming staff. Thoroughly recommended. Can’t wait to play there again.
You don’t have to be golfers to have a lovely stay. With our fox terrier, Floss, we had a one night in Room 22. The room was large and on the ground floor. It had all the facilities you need for a short stay: kettle, tea bag’s etc, hair dryer. Lovely king size bed, very comfortable mattress and bedding. En-suite had a shower over the bath. Shower pressure was very good. Didn’t like the shampoo and shower gel fixed to the stand but hey ho. No dog bed, bowls or treats supplied for the dog but we had our own anyway. We had dinner in the bar (calamari for him and chicken pie for me) both very nicely presented and very tasty. Next morning we enjoyed a cooked breakfast (also nicely presented and good quality). All staff we came across were welcoming and friendly. We had a very lovely time and left there feeling we’d enjoyed a treat.
Amazing location - overlooking The Mere and only minutes to
the beach. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Rooms were clean and spacious but in need of a little update in places.
We booked Christmas Day Lunch for our immediate family. From the outset the reception staff were exceptional, organising a table where our dogs would be welcome away from Christmas crackers etc and arranging alternative courses
to suite all requests ie allowing choice from classic and vegetarian menus.
On the day the six course menu was beautifully cooked and presented, how
the Chef and kitchen, waiting and other staff managed to serve so many
people at exactly 1p.m. is beyond belief - well done to them.
Overall, from the manager down, all the staff were attentive, caring, polite with
an obvious intent in carrying out their various duties as professionally as they
could. They even provided a specific wine which was not on their usual list but
requested in advance.
The ambience was cosy with open fires, you immediately felt welcome and at
home . After dinner coffees were served in the lounges which were tastefully decorated with no pressure to leave.
We, as a family were suitably impressed, very pleased with the whole experience
and at a competitive cost. Thank you all and a very Happy New Year to all those
involved. We would recommend Thorpeness Golf and Country Club Hotel, not
only for golf but for any occasion where hospitality and catering are desired.
We love this place - not glitzy or making luxury claims - a lovely atmosphere in the bar with the golfers, dog-friendly, and great food. Roast beef Sunday lunch was delicious and plentiful, and reasonable at £17, but lots of other choices are on the menu. Our waitress was chatty, and kindly provided a water bowl for the dog, and some biscuits. Great dog walks in the local area. There is also a nice lounge looking out over the lake, where we had a late morning coffee while reading the Sunday papers.
Very disappointed with a festive afternoon tea booked via a Black Friday offer. I went with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. We were consigned to a dimly lit "lounge" are with a corridor running alongside it which was in constant use as appeared to be the way to the gents toilets. The place was absolutely full of loud inebriated golfers, we could barely hear ourselves talking to each other for the noise. The carpark was also full to capacity with golf buggies blocking the way through. The food itself was average and nothing festive about it. The buildings themselves are in a beautiful position but are tired and in desperate need of a facelift. Such a shame, we felt quite intimidated by the all these men being so noisy and inconsiderate. An online message sent to the hotel on the same day remains unanswered.
Our golf society recently visited Thorpeness, and we were thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The course was in fantastic condition — clearly very well maintained — and provided the perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment. It’s certainly not an easy track, and the best advice for any visitor is to keep well clear of the gorse unless you’re willing to part with a few golf balls!
A special mention must go to the Club Pro, An, who was exceptionally helpful throughout the booking process. On the day itself, he went out of his way to make sure everything ran smoothly for our group.
We also stayed for a meal afterwards, and the food did not disappoint. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and despite having 36 hungry golfers to cater for, the kitchen and waiting staff managed to serve everyone quickly and efficiently.
All in all, Thorpeness is an outstanding venue and highly recommended for societies or anyone looking for a memorable day of golf.
I adore this place and do my best to make regular visits. Even though it falls short in the glitz, glamour and luxury department it has so much going for it: the hotel offers excellent value for money, comfortable accommodation, splendid restaurant serving locally-sourced produce while the impressive amenities includes a wonderfully challenging 18-hole heathland golf course.
But, most of all, Thorpeness boasts charm and character with loads to see and do nearby with lovely seaside towns Aldeburgh and Southwold on the doorstep while twitchers will have a ball at RSPB nature reserve at Minsmere.
All I can say is...roll on our next visit!
We stayed here with our walking group. Most of us have dogs and we were well catered for in dog-friendly rooms. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant but are allowed in the bar and lounge. The food was outstanding and the staff were friendly and efficient. The location was ideal as there are plenty of footpaths in the vicinity. Thorpeness beach is a short walk away and Aldeburgh is a short drive away. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again next year!
Loved staying here!
Clean, quiet and tip top water pressure!
The food is incredible and the beef and ale pie was a show stopper.
Highly recommend
A lovely stay and the staff were excellent, food great and so peaceful, certainly will be back there.
Nothing
Had not played this course in 25 years! Enjoyed being back, greens in good nick, bunkers well raked and prepared. One small criticism the rubbish bins could do with emptying! Played twice in a week in different weather conditions challenging both times.
Room 36 had a good view of the golf course and was very comfortable. Bed very comfortable and the breakfast very good. Staff all very friendly. Would stay there again.
