Outdoors Inn at Balsam Lake

The room was really small. No closet. Hooks on the wall but no hangers. Very few electric outlets. No phone. No attendant.
On the plus side, very clean and quiet.
Owner answered promptly when I sent a text.

I felt the price was too high for this bare minimum but I expect it is so because this is summer, the high season.

It was fine - the bed was very comfortable, and shower had great pressure. The room had been cleaned, but there were little piles of what seemed like sand in various corners. If it were cheaper, I would have been fine - it just felt pricey for what it was. There is no on-site service; but when the code I was provided didn't work, I texted the number they gave me, and got a fast response. Location was solid - just a few minute walk from the main area of Balsam Lake.

We had an excellent weekend stay. It was quiet and close to town where we had nice dinner. Also went hiking and had plenty of places to site see.

This property was perfectly located so that I could tackle additional sections of the Ice Age Trail (Gandy Dancer) as well as heading to Straight Lake State Park and Balsam Branch for snowshoeing.

The staff, even though not onsite, were very responsive! When I arrived, I had difficulty with the key code for the door and they responded immediately and got me into the room. Then when I accidentally left behind some personal belongings, they responded to my text promptly and got them shipped out to me the next day.
I loved that there was a full size refrigerator and a nice large work cart with shelves. This made meal preparation so much easier.

My only suggestion to make this room (#9) more convenient for the next guest, is to move the table and chairs that sit out on the porch into the room so that you can have a place to sit and enjoy meals and catch up on social media. That is what I did upon arrival and it worked out great since I was at this property over the New Year's holiday when sitting outside really isn't feasible.
I look forward to staying here again later in May when I return to complete the remaining Ice Age Trail segments in Polk county.

No housekeeping staff on site to address customer service and support. Room didn't have adequate bedding and the heat did not work. Temperature outside was 30 degrees and no heat in the room. Had to sleep in our vehicle. Several calls were made to an off site representative and no one was available to provide the requests for additional bedding.
Very expensive rates for such poor service.

Clean and well maintained. Check in and checkout was flawless. Definitely would stay at again.

Cute, private place to stay. But it was filthy…. Especially the bathroom and shower 😩

We enjoyed this little roadside getaway. It was clean and quiet. Check in and out is super easy and done via email. Only a few small things that could have been better. More plugins would be helpful. We had to move the coffee cart across the room to plug in the coffee pot. We stayed 2 nights so it would have been nice to have our coffee and cups replenished for the 2nd morning. Otherwise everything was very cute and quaint. Love the Plaid Decor!

The Inn is a ode to the old, but in a new way. Our room was very clean, and bright white walls with touches of buffalo plaid. Was cute!!!easy to access downtown Balsam Lake and enjoy good restaurants and bars.
The negative is the shower is EXTREMELY small (elbow checks constantly!), we could t read any lettering or numbers on the air conditioner (even taking a picture and blowing it up) & would have loved some sort of shelf or small table in the bathroom instead of setting everything on the floor. The walls are a bit thin so you will hear the neighbor watching tv while we were sleeping and the lights outside our room we motioned even from us moving inside- so my middle of the night potty break was well lit 😂
Out of control of the property was we got totally blocked in The parking lot so it was fun waking up the growly guy next door so he could move his truck a bit to let us out.
We would stay here again if need be, but small improvements would make it great!

First impressions are everything.

The TV does not work. There is not a single hook or hanger to hang any clothes. There was a very noisy party at a room nextdoor till 3 am. And because there is no receptionist on site, they felt free to be as loud as possible. Do not recommend if you have kids.

Nice stay, you had everything we needed. The only thing was battery went low on smoke detector and chirped during the night. We eventually had to get up and remove it. It was not a big deal at all.

This motel is conveniently located within walking distance to dining, shopping, and the lake. This place has the perfect cabin style I was looking for. Cute, comfy beds, and clean. We had a little trouble checking in but they were quick to help us. Bring a hair dryer if you need one, It was not provided at this site. We brought our boat for the weekend. Plenty of parking for our truck and boat on site.

It was a cute little cabin like room. Very quiet area. The only think that was bothersome was the smell inside. Id maybe add some type of air freshener, it would give it even of a more homey feel.

Shower curtain falling off the wall with the toilet paper holder. No soap. Coffee pot had to be put on the floor to use and for 2 mornings, only enough for 2 cups but only one coffee cup.
Checking in was not explained and check out had no information

Such a cute place to stay. No staff on site so got difficult the day we left as we ran out of toilet paper but that is the only "hiccup". Our room had a full kitchen. Had a backyard we played catch in. Beds were very comfortable. Felt like a home away from home. We had 6 people stay in the 1 room which was the same price as a 2 person hotel room. We were worried with the cheap pricethat we would be disappointed. Left feeling the complete opposite. Highly recommended!!

I hd trouble getting my room key, first time I've ever checking into a motel with no one there. Otherwise the room was fine, very comfortable bed. The only complaint I have was the shower head needs to be replaced.
