Pros:

Cons:

Everything I did didn’t get my refund for the days. I didn’t stay because of the last call for work…. And there were too many bugs I couldn’t get no sleep.

My Terrible Experience
Pros:

I stayed here from March 17- March 20. I submitted a review after my stay that was less than ideal. Anyway i called the hotel and spoke with the general manager about the conditions. I’m an Active Duty Solider and was traveling on a PCS to a new duty station. I called the night prior to confirm I could pay in part with my government travel card and my personal card so we could enjoy DC. When i got there I tried to make that happen. However, at checkout the Folio said that it was all charges to my personal card. So i called about that asking if they could recharge my government travel card and leave the other night stay on my personal card. The General Manager, Ms. Shadina Robinson, told me over the phone they would issue a 1 night stay refund for that stay which had some issue with our shower and our Son with a bad skin condition being unable to take a shower which was required daily. Long story short. I had a one night stay refund back to my card in progress and a recharge to my government travel card. She said she was going to do this. We reconfirmed card details and everything over the phone. I wish i had a transcript of the calls looking back now. Some time went by and still no refund or recharge to my government travel card. It was too late for me to claim that stay on my GTC so i called back and ask if they could just cancel the charge. Mark my words, she told me that she would issue a refund of 387 dollars ish to account for me paying out of pocket for my Official Army travel and the ones nights stay for amenities being not what we needed. (Again, read my original post at the bottom of this.). Fast forward, I called back and she tried again, still no refund back to my personal card. I just got off the phone now and she told me there is no record of me trying to use my government travel card at check in. Which is false, why would i pay try to pay for all of my travel out of pocket when the Army pays for a certain amount of travel days for us during our moves. She wasn’t there so she told me she’s relying on the records but they don’t show the whole story. I asked if she could check the cameras from when i checked in to show that two cards were presented. She said it’s a lot of work, essentially. I asked about the refund for the one nights stay at least and she just said no she won’t be doing it anymore. So she basically took everything back she said to me after about 3 months of working through this problem and told me if i try to dispute the charge she will fight it. Not really sure why this is happening. I do apologize for raising my voice on the phone, not yelling and I tried to say Ma’am still, out of respect. I was just very frustrated because the unjustness of the situation. She was telling me I never presented a card when I know i did and it doesn’t make sense not to show my government travel card. Overall, this has got to be the worst hotel experience I’ve had.
Overall, the manager went back on her word for a refund completely.
FIRST REVIEW
Our stay was extremely frustrating and fell well below expectations.
The shower was completely unusable—water temperature was either scalding hot or freezing, with no way to regulate it. This wasn’t just inconvenient; it directly affected our family. Our baby requires daily showers for a skin condition, and we were unable to safely bathe him because of this issue.
We contacted the front desk for assistance and were told we’d receive a call back, but no one ever followed up. Throughout the stay, staff came across as indifferent and at times annoyed when we asked for help, which is unacceptable.
Breakfast staff were the only bright spot—they were kind and welcoming—but the food itself was mediocre.
Additionally, the elevator certification appeared to be expired (dated November 2025), which raises safety concerns.
Between the lack of basic functionality, poor customer service, and safety questions, this stay did not meet reasonable standards. I would not recommend this hotel and would strongly encourage management to address these issues immediately.

Pros:

The staff was nice.

Cons:

This is the first outdated Holiday Inn Express I've ever stayed in, and it was a very disappointing experience. The carpet in the hallway leading to our room was filthy, and the furniture in the room was worn and outdated. The bathroom sink was dusty and dirty, which made the room feel unclean overall.

I was genuinely surprised to see a Holiday Inn Express in this condition. The pool area looked neglected, with old, broken tables and umbrellas that made it uninviting. Unfortunately, the breakfast was disappointing as well.

The only reason I stayed was because I wasn't sure how long it would take to receive a refund if I checked out early. Otherwise, I would have left and found another hotel. Overall, this stay did not meet the standards I've come to expect from Holiday Inn Express, and I would not recommend this location.

I was super impressed by their front desk officer Allison who helped me when I was badly stuck somewhere. I needed to use printing service but was struggling. She helped me for hours to ensure that my work completes in time. I am grateful to her.

Stay Anywhere Else
Pros:

The swimming pool was really the only good thing about staying here.

Cons:

The staff were unfriendly and treated us like an inconvenience. The first room upon arrival was a complete disaster. The ac units are completely outdated and it was broken. The refrigerator was also broken and would not get cold. The shower rod was hanging so it was impossible to shower. They only gave us 2 towels for 3 people for 2 nights. When we went down to the desk to address the issues we were met with attitude. They even called maintenance and they were not going to give us another room until the maintenance man told them it was impossible for us to stay there. The next room also only had 2 towels and the ac barely worked. When we asked for more towels the hostess made the statement "Ohhhh you're the towels lady"! We felt discriminated against for being the only white family in the hotel and treated like we were burdens. And side note...the entire hotel smelled like Marijuana and we caught staff just smoking blunts on the property....Marijuana is for adults to enjoy and children should not be subjected to it. We paid 434$ for a 2 night stay for this mistreatment and inconvenience. I will never recommend Holiday inn express to anyone. The Hampton Inns have much better properties and staff. We were very dissatisfied as this was a major trip for our son. He had never experienced DC and this ruined the whole experience.
