Quirky, comfortable bed and great shower. Unusual going up a few stairs for the bathroom but no issue. Super dog friendly and great food.
Finding the car park was a bit of a challenge, and the lightbulb overhead in the room wasn’t working but there were side lights so it was fine.
Locatie en onbijt waren excellent. Staf is vriendelijk. Prachtig oud koetshuis. Helaas geen spoken gezien. :-)
Via booking kom je in de main building. Onhandig met ons hondje. Oud gebouw en de vloeren kraken verschrikkelijk. Medelijden met de onderburen. Ook niet alles helemaal schoon bij aankomst.
Not much really. We added a night prior to our Booking.com reservation as our travel plans changed. Person I spoke to in order to arrange this was helpful.
On arrival we were shown to room 7, which was awful. The strong smell of 'wet dog' hit us as we entered. The rug on the floor was very grubby and the whole impression was that the room was down at heel. We went to reception and complained to the receptionist. He apologised and found us an alternative room, number 4. This was better but well below what we are used to. The bed was comfortable, and the rug was in better shape than in room 7. The matting in the shower looked grubby and well used. The whole feeling in the inn was that it had seen better days. Overall we couldn't get out quickly enough. Breakfast was reasonable. We didn't stay the second night despite having paid. Makes us wary of booking via Booking.com in the future. Just to clarify, we did have our small Chihuahua dog with us and had requested a dog friendly room. We have stayed in many such rooms in past years and have never experienced any evidence of dogs using the rooms. Certainly no smell like we experienced here. Such a shame.
Really comfortable bed and excellent scrambled eggs at breakfast! The staff were all very pleasant and cheerful.
I asked for a quiet room which I got… until a delivery or similar took place at 5.30am outside the hotel, people banging and chatting for a good half an hour, after which it seemed that everyone in the wing was awake and also banging around. Old building = wood floors and heavy doors - not quiet! Would stay again, but probably as far away from the main building as possible.
Location and car park.
The room in the Bailey extension was tiny and stuffy, no chairs except one at the desk, no wardrobe, a broken toilet seat and a ridiculous closer on the bathroom door that was too strong for my 81 year old wife to manage.
Everything great. Could not fault anything. Staff, facilities, breakfast, all wonderful.
nothing.
Convenient
Room was rather tired and featureless.
Very comfortable beds and wonderful location.
Restaurant was very understaffed at breakfast and we had a disappointing experience with lunch, where our food took 40 minutes to arrive despite having pre ordered and booked.
The location and the decor
At breakfast it seemed to be understaffed and one of the male staff members had a very officious manner, to the point that we were reluctant to engage with him or ask for anything.
Where it is. The location was great.
Our first room smelt strongly of dog and some of the decor is a little tired. We were moved to another room and the radiator wouldn’t turn off. The air con unit didn’t function properly and we were above the kitchen so things were noisy in the morning.
Nothing
Staff - attitude, poor service and over charged and rude
Well, we have a problem with our original room - there was a nail sticking up in the floor. Someone tried to fix it but failed so they moved us to a suite at no extra charge and with no hassle. Unfortunately the heating in the suite didn't work, so they put in an oil-filled radiator (only one bit of it worked) and the coffee machine had a leak. They tried, but failed, to fix the heating so again offered to move us to a different room. Yes, it was a pain that there were problems, but the staff responded to them really well. Breakfast was good and both rooms were comfortable. The suite had LOADS of room and even had a bath in the main room. (Also had a shower in the bathroom). Parking was OK.
Could have had better access to maintenance staff.
Lovely location on high street, in historic building.
I was in room 4 above reception it is an old building with wooden floors and sound travels. I found it noisy in the evenng and early morning I needed ear plugs.
