From the moment we arrived the staff were all very friendly, from the reception to the restaurant and bar staff. It is an old hotel with lots of corridors and wonky floors, go exploring and find quiet sitting areas and if the weather is nice lots of outdoor areas to sit.
The breakfast was very good and don't be afraid to ask for slight variations. We also had an evening meal which was very nice. After dinner we sat in a little area by a real log fire for residents only.
The bedroom was very quiet (we were right at the top) and the bed was comfy.
Dunster is a wonderful village to stay in.
Such a quirky beautiful old building. The room was lovely and clean. Food was lovely, atmosphere great and all the staff were lovely. Will definitely be visiting again.
Came in for an evening in January for a drink with friends, Ended up staying for a meal which we each enjoyed. Great atmosphere, log fire kept us warm, good service and manager was very helpful when needing some assistance with something to do in the local area the next day felt like a special place so will be back and hopefully stay for a few days in your beautiful hotel.
Had a wonderful New years lunch at the hotel - thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, great service staff and attentive Management staff - one to remember.
We had booked for New Year's Eve dinner. First of all, we had to pay for the entire menu almost a month in advance. We had to choose what we wanted to eat 15 days in advance (from three options).
We arrived at 8 o'clock as requested, and the waiter asked us what we would like to drink. I told him there was a welcome drink. He brought it to us reluctantly. Then everything happened very quickly. No sooner had we finished our meals than the next course was brought to us, until I asked to finish my wine calmly before dessert. The dance was in the country yard, where it was 3 degrees. Of course, no one was dancing, and to top it all off, the duck pâté wasn't fresh, which our stomachs certainly felt.
In short, it was a ruined evening.
"We visited on January 3rd, attracted by the charming look of the place from the outside. Unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. Despite being the first customers to arrive, we were treated like second-class guests. While other tables were carefully set with placemats and napkins, our cutlery was simply dropped in the middle of the table rolled in a napkin. No placemats were provided for us, even as we watched staff properly set the tables next to us for later arrivals.
The room was also incredibly cold. When we mentioned this to the staff, they dismissively told us the heating was 'automatic' and did nothing to help. To make matters worse, the fish and chips were extremely greasy. It was a very upsetting and uncomfortable experience. We did not feel valued as customers at all.

Awful lunch, didn't complain as didn't want to spoil time with friends.
Basically £18 for chewy ham and a few chips, no garnish, asked for no eggs, but still shouldn't have been so poor
Very disappointing lunch.
After a visit to Dunster Castle, we booked a lunch in the bar area. I'm afraid my burger was horrible with poor quality of meat, turkey dinner was tasteless and my houmous sandwich was the worst I'd ever eaten. We won't eat here again.
Beautiful old building with lots of interesting rooms to enjoy a beer or Two in. The staff are lovely.
The food is mediocre and really expensive for what it is. We had the Turkey which at £21 was disappointing followed by a small piece of Christmas pudding with flavourless custard which cost £11. We had a better roast dinner at our local carvery for half the price.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel with my partner. From the moment we checked in, the staff were absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. Their professionalism carried through everywhere, from the front desk to the restaurant in the evening and even room service.
The food was fantastic, with clear priority given to hotel guests, which made us feel really valued. Every meal was delicious and beautifully presented, adding to the overall experience.
It’s rare to find a place where every detail is taken care of so well, but this hotel truly delivered. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, great service, and a memorable stay.
I phoned the Luttrell to book a table in the bar for dinner and asked for a quiet table, if possible, as we hoped to bring our elderly dog with us. They didn't disappoint, a lovely quiet table was reserved for us. Thank you, it was perfect. The staff were all friendly and the food was delicious. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the venison followed by poached pear and I had the delicious turkey followed by Christmas pud.
All in all we had a lovely evening with our dog Maisie which meant so much to us.
Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t get across the threshold as was fully booked.
But the rudeness of the head waiter in not welcoming us was exceptional!!
Went into the pub for some food and the man with the long beard was so rude, was hesitant to sitting us at a empty table and when he gave me my drink he slammed it down and was very inconsiderate, everything seemed like an inconvenience to him and was very rude to us when we decided we just wanted drinks instead of food.he got my drink order wrong and I was very hesitant to saying anything about it because of his negative demeanour.
After 20 years of frequenting the LA, I am disappointed.
Average.
Average food.
Average beer.
Poor service.
The food came out amazingly quickly. Too quickly?
Staff really need to be able to distinguish between IPA and Bitter.
Staff complaining about other guests in full view of other guests is not a very nice experience. By all means complain about the guests, but do it out of ear shot (I am sure some guests are not very polite but we should hold ourselves to a higher standard) and when providing service do it with good grace and politeness.
Let the guests 'enjoy' their average meal before asking to pay.
Went for a pint at the Stag's Head later in the day. The welcome was warm, the open fire was on (unlike the LA), the place was full, all tables were booked and the atmosphere was lively. Looking forward to re-visiting.
Had an absolutely wonderful stay here to celebrate our anniversary. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly, and very helpful with local recommendations and knowledge.
The hotel is very old and atmospheric with lots of different levels, areas and hidden corners which adds to its charm. The meals are superb - we ate in the hotel every evening, and a couple of times for lunch as well. There is a restaurant, a cosy bar, and several outside areas which we could enjoy even in September.
Best of all, the hotel is very dog friendly. There was a bed and bowls in the room when we arrived, and a treat on the breakfast table each morning. We also had a small garden area, and access to the surrounding parkland. My dog absolutely loved her stay and meeting all her new friends!
Lovely hotel. Rooms spacious and immaculate.
Only disappointment was the food. Menu was not really to our taste and when we did manage to find something suitable the cooking was not great. My comments about tough meat which I couldn't eat were acknowledged.
Otherwise great stay.
Everything to do with the Lutterell Arms Hotel was 5* The parking is a problem as the High Street parking was always full, but didn’t spoil our stay!
Na
A return visit and as good as we remembered. Super welcome from the friendly staff, good quality room and fittings and dog bed and bowl provided. Food as good as we had hoped for, excellent cooked breakfast and range of fresh fruit, cereals and pastries. Room opened to a small patio area and access to the grounds of Dunster Castle which was ideal for dog walking. Parking, as always, an issue but if you can get a spot across the road from the hotel its very convenient otherwise its the public car park around 100 yards away. Will we visit again? We certainly hope so.
We had dinner one night and it went well. Restaurant service was excellent as well as friendly. Prices okay but wine by the glass a bit pricey.
Overall a good old fashioned type of hotel and restaurant. Clearly popular.
