Great stop at Lancaster Holiday Inn, good room, used the bar and had a good breakfast.
We’ve stayed here many times, we’re diamond members for IHG so frequently use the brand.
The hotel is pet friendly and we brought our dog who sleeps in a crate but the rooms are spacious enough that this was no problem. Room was well equipped and the facilities were good.
The food at the restaurant was great and my kids loved the pool. The stand out for us in this hotel is always the staff - they are the best of any IHG hotel we’ve stayed at, they couldn’t do enough for us.
Kamil who works in the bar stood out as a member of staff who goes above and beyond to make our kids and puppy feel really welcome.
We stay here a couple of times a year and will be back soon.

I use Holiday Inn often for business but had never eaten at the Lancaster location before. Safe to say this was both a first and a LAST dining experience.
I ordered the chicken and pulled pork burger. On paper, it sounded like a solid life choice. It came with chips and two onion rings, which, in hindsight, were the most committed parts of the meal.
Now, the price. £17.50 plus a £1.75 service charge. £19.25 for a chicken burger. At that price, you expect chicken to at least make a meaningful appearance.
When the burger arrived, it looked impressive. Tall, stacked, promising. A real catfish of a burger.
First bite… lettuce.
Second bite… lettuce.
Third, fourth, fifth… still auditioning for rabbit food of the year.
By the sixth bite, I finally located the chicken, hiding quietly beneath the bun like it didn’t want to be involved. It was about half a centimetre thick and didn’t even cover half the bun. I’ve seen deli slices with more presence.
I don’t normally complain, but this was less of a chicken burger and more of a lettuce sandwich with emotional support chicken. So I called the waiter over, showed him what can only be described as a structural imbalance, and explained my disappointment.
To his credit, he agreed and took it to the kitchen. He then returned and delivered the unforgettable line: “It is what it is.”
I’m sorry… what it is… is £19.25.
I asked for a refund. He said he’d speak to the manager. The manager, however, chose to remain a mysterious off-stage presence and never came to speak with me. I was then told refunds can’t be processed on site, which is a fascinating policy for a hospitality business.
When I asked how exactly one gets their money back for a burger that forgot the chicken, I was told to send an email. No email address was offered until I asked again, presumably part of a scavenger hunt.
For balance, the waiter himself was polite and seemed new, so this isn’t on him. The real issue is the complete lack of care, service, and aftercare, especially at that price point.
VERY disappointing.
Buyers beware: if you order the chicken burger, bring a magnifying glass so you can find it.
Used the too good to go app, to purchase a cheap breakfast. Done this many times never had a problem. Today was met by a very polite worker and given my self service breakfast box, whilst I was choosing my items was accosted by a supervisor who aggressively barked at me "what are you doing" I informed her I was doing exactly what I was instructed to do by her very polite employee. She then informed I wasn't allowed to use the utensils. All this happened in front of guests and the people in the restaurant. The staff are usually excellent here the supervisor absolutely awful.
Having read the reviews (a right mixed bag) we were rather in trepidation of our trip. No need. All great, truly! The thing people seem universal on is the staff. Agreed. Everyone was lovely and went out of the way to ensure guests were happy.
Our room (134) was clean, bed comfy, shower great, biscuits with the tea tray, nice quality soap/shampoo, big towels, decent tv, toasty warm room.... what more does one need?
The pool, steam room and sauna were fine (didn't use the gym but it looked as if it was too) and the breakfast was excellent. Loads of choice, always re-stocked and again, friendly staff (Shout out to Harrison but they were all lovely). Sure a bit of re-painting here and there would be nice, but is that what we should be measuring everything on?
This hotel was extremely dirty which is not up to normal Holiday Inn standards, would not recommend to anyone, The rooms which seemed like it lacked a clean before our stay there were crumbs on the floor by the bed and dust in a lot of accessible places, the whole hotel requires in my opinion and good deep clean and decoration as apart from the room the corridors and communal areas where dirty too.
Moving on to the restaurant we went to eat there on our 1 night stay and took about half hour to get served it wasn’t busy there was 8 customers and 4 staff.
Breakfast the only good thing about that was the poached eggs that were cooked fresh and were spot on the rest was very disappointing, the menu said there was porridge but there wasn’t, the menu said there was flavoured yogurts but there wasn’t.
Good job it was only for one night I would not have stayed any longer than that.
We’ve stayed at a number of Holiday Inns around the UK, so thought we knew what to expect, however on this occasion we were very disappointed. This review is intended as ‘constructive feedback’ so the establishment can look to improve things for future guests.
We booked a 4-night stay between Christmas and New Year. Check in was friendly and efficient. When we got into our room on the ground floor, we were very surprised to find the double bed was so small – there was a big gap each side of the bed to the ‘bedside shelves’ so obviously the headboard was designed for a king-size bed, but a small double was in the room, and we’d booked a ‘standard’ room.
It was very frosty outside yet the room heating was not working. Reception tried resetting it to no avail, so they issued us with a plug in heater we used throughout our stay. There was only 1 mug in the room, and 1 bath towel, plus very stingy on the milks. Only 4 which as you need at least 2 per cup of tea meant only enough for a drink each. Another trip to reception to collect another mug, towel and more milks.
Room lighting was poor and you ended up walking into the body of the room in the dark in order to turn on the bedside lights as this was the main room lighting. Also no coat-hooks and you don’t really want to hang a damp coat in the wardrobe with your dry clothes. There’s plenty of space for a couple of hooks to be put up on the outside of the wardrobe, and something like this would really make a difference.
There was a sign outside of the ‘health suite’ saying there were no towels and to use the ones from your room. This did not change throughout our stay – we were told later there was a problem with the laundry company not sending enough. However this did mean that whereas we often swim morning and evening, we could only swim once a day because there was no way to dry the towels in the room. There’s no where to hang out damp towels, especially if there are 2 people using the room. This also meant we couldn’t opt for the HI ‘greener stay’ because we needed housekeeping to come in and change our damp towels for dry in the room each day.
Day 2 they took the 2 damp towels, but only left 1 dry one. Also no teabags left, the dirty mugs hadn’t been changed, and the bin was left in the middle of the room with no liner, so another trip to reception. Harry dealt with our grumble with good grace and sorted it out again for us.
Health suite – we were unable to use the Jacuzzi on our first morning there because the person covering the gym desk didn’t know how to check the levels. Seemed a little odd seeing as we were OK to use the pool. The suite doesn’t get cleaned often because there were bottle tops in the showers and a kitkat wrapper by the Jacuzzi that weren’t moved throughout our 4-night stay.
Breakfast – the dining room is cluttered with a lot of furniture crammed in. Layout needs to be looked at because one table only has narrow walkway each side, and one morning the couple using it kept being ‘nudged’ as other guests squeezed past. We did mention this to Paul on a subsequent day and he agreed it shouldn’t be there and would move it later. The coffee machines are located on a very narrow walkway so no room to walk behind someone using the machine. No hot water boiler – for tea you’ve got to use the hot water function on the coffee machine which isn’t hot enough for tea and also taints it. Plus no milk near the tea-station, or the cereals located in the same area.
The plate warmer is really good and plates lovely and hot, but no sign of any napkins nearby in order to pick them up without burning your fingers – these are provided as standard in most hotels. Same for the lids on some of the hot food – the creuset type pans are under the hot lights so the lid-handles get very hot – other hotels place tea-towels around the handles which would be good to do here too. Cold meat selection not topped up unless we asked. First morning there was a great selection, but as the stay progressed the offering seriously diminished to just one meat and one cheese on our last morning.
The football table is not a good choice of ‘bar game’ to have adjacent to the dining area as during breakfast there’s a constant clack of it being used accompanied by screams from the kids playing it.
Finally the music volume was way too loud, even at 7am as we came out of our room it was very loud. Music is great as background, but not at the level it was set at.
The location is great, and there’s plenty of parking, plus regular buses from the stop outside. The pool is one of the largest we’ve seen in a HI so great for a few lengths before breakfast. However there seems to be a lack of leadership as no one staff-wise is properly looking at how things operate from a customer perspective, and there’s most certainly a lack of supervision of housekeeping tasks so standards are not very high.
The room wasn’t cleaned, whilst on a 2 night stay.
The pool was always full of kids! There should be an adult hour throughout the day.
There was a lady fully clothed with her phone taking photos! This shouldn’t be allowed
Disgraceful!!!
I have stayed at this hotel several times and have found it great but this time it didn't work out. The room was fine, I'm glad that there's a lift and easy parking and a restaurant on site, although the food is overpriced and very average. Food service was excellent and there was a nice atmosphere.
However, I had to leave early due to unforeseen circumstances. I left at 4:15am approximately and even though I was clearly distressed, the girl on reception gave not a care. Most of the staff looked bored to tears, tbh. The staff need much better training.
The trip reinforced my commitment to Airbnb and cottage breaks. Disappointing.
I'm not sure that I will be returning to Holiday Inn. Time will tell. Interestingly, staff at Holiday Inn Burnley were much friendlier and kinder when I was staying there this year, to attend a family funeral.
The hotel is acceptable , but like so many holiday inn hotels in the UK it is really old , the rooms are just so tired although very clean .
My radiator did not work , bed comfortable enough , bathroom good working order.
The whole atmosphere is unpleasant , needs demolishing and rebuilding , you cannot keep on painting old stains
Every treadmill in the gym was out of order , tells a story .
Having stayed at this hotel on a few occasions previously we thought we knew what to expect. However, we were disappointed to find that the room wasn’t particularly clean with black hairs left in the shower and dusty lamps beside the bed. The bathroom door had paint peeling along the bottom of it and there was a hole in the floor strip between bathroom and bedroom. The television stopped working (although this was replaced quickly) and there was a dirty cotton bud on the window sill outside the window. Bedside lamp fitting had been screwed on at a jaunty angle and the furniture was very tired and careworn. We used the lift during our stay and on first use we noticed a dirty tissue crumpled up on the floor and smears all down the mirror - two days later it was exactly the same so nobody had cleaned it. A real shame as the staff are so friendly and very helpful and the food was great. Bar staff however didn’t know how to work the til and had to keep asking at reception for assistance. Also, although cans of still water are supplied in the room fridge, there were none to buy from the bar so we had to be given tap water instead. A very tired hotel with poor levels of cleanliness and lack of attention to detail which was a real shame as it is quite conveniently located and the staff are so good.
Our second trip to this hotel, it continues to impress with a good restaurant, leisure facilities and comfortable beds.
Also good to see it retains attentive staff like Suzanna and new staff like Decland.
The staff were excellent, friendly efficient and helpful. Although parts of the hotel have had a lick of paint (you could smell it) the rooms are tired and dated. The bathroom was superficially clean but needed a scrubbing brush round the bath handles and shower sealant which were black and green respectively. Net curtains were off the rail in places. Food was from a menu that seems locked in time for the last 5 years or so but it was ok. Soft drinks were overpriced as usual. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable and we’ll continue to use the place because of its convenience but it could really do with a refurb.
The gym/pool was very disappointing. Only 1 towel between 2 of us. The pool was occupied by a children's swimming lesson even though it wasn't on the timetable and the Jacuzzi was closed!
The property is old, the first room we were given stinked so we had to change. The second one was better but the pillows dirty. The hotel is along a busy road, half of the rooms are therefore very noisy. That said, the staff is lovely and hard working and the restaurant and bar are absolutely fine.
The hotel stay was overall average. We didn’t have much interaction with the staff, apart from check-in. The front desk staff member who assisted us was polite and efficient, though nothing particularly stood out. The experience was straightforward, but not memorable.
Spacious room
Very good , excellent
Was there for a funeral. We arrived very early to leave bags and to freshen up , instead we where allowed to check in 4 hours early and to a premium room for no extra charge, the following morning we where given a late check out.
It was so appreciated, the room service I had was lovely and breakfast was a good selection of all different types of breakfast.
We really appreciate the kindness we were shown at a sad time for us.!
The hotel looks very tired. The food was mediocre and the chef handed my veggie sausages in a hot bowl that burnt my fingers. Our mattress was like a trampoline and we didn't sleep. asked to swap and they didn't do until we complained again here was mold in the bathroom. No mattress protectors on bed tape on floor needs a complete refresh .
