Location - staff were helpful
This is not a £200+ a night hotel - it's a one-night transit for overseas tourists. Lack of a/c was a major issue and while (very noisy) fans were provided, they were not the answer. The decor and furnishings are tired and the signs of penny-pinching everywhere. Rooms are very small and the promised 'heritage view' in our case was the hotel car park.
We will not be booking this hotel again.
Location and the hotel is generally nice. Staff are helpful.
The hotel has no air-conditioning and, as it is an old building, the windows in the room did not open. There were fans but it was very uncomfortable in the heat.
I stayed here mostly because of the location, which is perfect for an event on or near the High Street, but what sticks in my mind is how helpful the staff were. I felt really welcomed and as though nothing was too much trouble. The room I had was small, but well equipped and comfortable. Recommended.
Great location, lovely room.
I was given room 314 with no air conditioning at a day a heat wave was coming. In lieu a plug-in electric fan was provided which was very noisy even at scale 1. It was thus either sweating or putting up with the noise. In response to my complaints the staff argued that air conditioning in the room was no-where advertised. I would have thought that in a 4 star hotel air conditioning should be standard and what should rather be flagged is its absence. In short, there may be good and bad rooms in a hotel, but Booking should be more selective in proposing just the good ones.
Well located.
Rooms were extremely hot. No air conditioning and all windows are sealed. Room temperature was much higher than outdoor temperature. Avoid this hotel if outside temperature is more than 20C.
Also, poor housekeeping.
Great location
Needs a lot of maintenance restaurant closed for lunch and dinner
Great place right in the heart of the city! Staff are very accommodating and friendly especially Cam down at breakfast!
It’s fine. Good location. Everything in Oxford is overpriced if you can’t stay in college
No complaints
I regret staying at this hotel even though the location is terrific. our room was not clean nor maintained (see photos). Even for a historic building, it was far below standards. It was also hot and some areas had bad smells. The good points: decent breakfast available at early hour, friendly breakfast staff.
The staff were lovely and really helpful. There was a good choice for breakfast. The location was great- right in the centre of Oxford.
No air conditioning. The room was very hot. We were provided with a fan but this was too noisy to have on through the night. Parts of the room and decor were tired and needed updating. The shower lacked power and the for was a little faulty.
Posizione comodissima per visitare la città, con molti ristoranti attorno.
Arredamento datato, il phon funzionava male
Perfect location, comfortable room
Wifi not working when we were there
The beds were so comfortable after a long travel day. The student working at the front desk was so friendly and helpful with recommendations. We loved the central location and the history of the hotel.
Avoid. Rooms are unbelievably hot as the air conditioning is “permanently” broken. You will not sleep in the Summer. The management refused to offer any gesture of goodwill back and rolled out a robotic response with no care for a paying customer. Simply, once they have your money they do not care. There are better places to stay in Oxford.
I have stayed here about four times for work. Sadly at this time of year the prices go up and it's outside my budget. Super helpful front desk, right in the middle of Oxford. No evening meal or room service but lots of options outside the front door .
A hotel with a relaxed atmosphere. Very pleasant staff who can’t do enough to help. It has character and is centrally located opposite the university’s examination halls which is lovely to see if you are new to the area. We arrived for a two night stay to be told we’d been upgraded for free to the Ruskin suite (the best room in the hotel) with a fab separate living room and big bathroom. Very friendly staff at breakfast and reception, and the cleaners are lovely too. It a historical building (which one has to bear in mind) and in keeping with the local area. If you want to explore Oxford and the colleges on foot, or the shopping or cultural centres, this is a great choice. We’ll be back!
