Great staff, fabulous location and lovely hotel!!
Lovely building overlooking the magnificent Examination Halls. Wonderful, helpful and efficient staff. Rooms extremely comfortable with top quality bedlinen and towels. Great breakfast. Close to all transport links. Wouldn't choose to stay anywhere else.
Central location
No air con and windows barely opened. It was like an oven inside the rooms during the summer heat. This is poor form for such an expensive hotel
The location and room layout were great, we had been here before and enjoyed but this time ...
There was no way of keeping the room cool in the heatwave, no through breeze or air conditioning so no sleep. We tried various windows open or closed, curtains open or closed permutations and multiple cool showers but to no avail, there was one small fan that just circulated the same air around. Also the bar was being run down of drinks and only breakfast was available, I believe all this is because of upcoming renovations but no mention of this when booking and no decrease in price.
Location, location, location
I was put in a tiny, 3rd floor room with a narrow single bed. The room was extremely hot, with insufficient cooling & only a tiny window gap. It was so hot that I could not sleep, even with an extra fan. Awful experience & I do not intend to return
The location was fantastic and the staff were great . We will definitely be back.
Good location.
Was very hot, no aircons. Was warmer in the room than outside. Very bad smell coming from the bathroom. Maintenance needed and room needs to be cleaned better.
Heritage, vintage, relatively clean hotel
The indian originally staffs were not as helpful & friendly, the room we got which was located on the 3rd floor (the toppest) , was very very hot, humid during the whole stay. The cool was really not cool !!!
Spacious rooms, clean and confortable. Staff is very kind and helpful. No AC in the rooms but the hotel provide powerful fans.
The location is just perfect. Bedding is ok. Staff very friendly.
The room is very, very, very small. Since the hotel sits in a historic building, they are obviously not allowed to install air conditioning, but wow, was it hot. They kindly provided a fan but that was not quite enough. The window opens only marginally (only one third of its width and only 10 cm from the frame), so it gets really stuffy. View on a brick wall. Window frames in an awful condition with dirt and lots of cobwebs (and spiders). Bathroom door water-damaged.
The beds were comfortable. Location good
BAD smell in the room, NO AIRCON. We struggled to sleep with the smell coming from the bathroom. Outside was cooler than in the room. They do not clean properly, rather just tidy the bed and clean the bathroom.
The room was unbearably hot despite 2 fans as there was no air flow. The windows could only open 1/2 inch. The room was very small- like a closet. The air in the hallways and the main reception area were much cooler than our room. we had to open the door to get cool air. we asked for a cooling machine and they did not provide it while we were out. We came back to a hot room. i had to ask again. The machine was provided with no instructions and 1 bucket of ice. The cooling machine failed at 2am- water warm so not cooling anything. No one available to help at that time. The room is unsafe for use during summer months. The front desk was not helpful. I would not use this place ever again. i was in the Cotswold and every hotel was as old and yet cooler with functioning windows and fans. I have had a horrible 2 nigth stay with no sleep and so uncomfortable room.
Very good location just off the High Street. The room was quite small and although there was no air conditioning 2 fans were available in the room.
Just take my advice, do not stay in this hotel, especially in summer, and certainly not on the top floor.
There is no air-con in our small room on top floor and the windows in the room was fixed and cannot be opened. It was like living in a green house. By 11pm, we simply could not sleep as the room temperature was well over 30 degrees. I had to interview students the following day the whole day, I needed to sleep. We have asked the staff whether there is any possibility that we could change a room. They said - NO.
We then called Holiday Inn in Oxford & booked a room with air-con. We moved there and had a good night sleep.
When we reported this to the hotel management, asking for a partial refund (the room cost £253.92 per night, plus £20 for parking), they said - NO.
By the way, the photograph showing on the left with Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel address under it, is not the image of Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel. It is the Examination Schools in Oxford opposite the hotel.
Pas de climatisation alors qu'il faisait très chaud
