the location is perfect for walking into Winchester
hotel is perfectly adequate but lacks charm
The bed was comfortable. The view of the Cathedral was pretty good. The staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful.
Whilst the foyer, bar, & restaurant looked like they'd had a refurb, everywhere else looked a bit tired. The bathroom particularly looked like it needed updating. The cleanliness wasn't great, especially the spiral staircase to the bar which has thick layers of dust at the back of each step. On Saturday morning the glasses from the night before were still unclean on the bar. Little things each but which lead to an overall impression. Maybe lack of staff?
Location.
My emailed request, which I had a reply to, apparently hadn’t got to the hotel!
Sad looking property that needs updating and some repairs. Loose handle on bath. Stair rod loose. The lobby in the extension wouldn’t look out of place in a poor old people’s home!
Sustainability is their watchword hence no cleaning unless requested but housekeeping needs to come in daily to empty bins and restock tea, coffee and milk, replace cups in the room so they are clean for use. We had to do that ourselves.
If you had been slightly taller than me your head would have been touching the ceiling in the shower.
Breakfast badly cooked, particularly the eggs, and left under heated lights. No covers on bread, cold meats and cheese. Cheap coffee! We had to serve ourselves and make our own drinks and toast.
We wondered what we were paying for. It felt more like money saving than sustainability.
Would not recommend this hotel.
staff were very nice. excellent location
I did pay for a full breakfast one day but most of the food had run out. The staff were doing their best, but felt it was understaffed especially one day when a coach arrived, the hotel management must have known there would be a lot of people for breakfast and arranged more staff accordingly. The rooms were not serviced, This was not a problem as such as you could request this, however when asking for more tea and milk, the staff were reluctant to offer more than than the standard two per room. This I believe was probably due to instructions rather than the staff not wanting to. As the rooms were not serviced I feel that tea, coffee and milk could be given out a little more generously. These beverages are not expensive, and I doubt all customers ask for them.
The location cannot be beaten - it's directly opposite the cathedral and very central to everything in Winchester.
The bathroom in particular is very tired with a leaking shower and limited amenities - we paid for the best room, yet there wasn't any body lotion and you had to request a clean because they only come every 3 days - this includes making your own bed and not having any towel changes, unless you specifically ask for this.
The location was excellent-so close to the cathedral. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom fixtures are tired.
Booking.com was quick to take our money, however, they didn't inform the hotel of our booking. We were lucky they were able to find us rooms.
No one at reception rest was fine
There is never a person at reception
The location
Nothing
The location was perfect. The room itself was comfortable but the bathroom sadly needed updating. Also a bottle of water in the fridge would have been beneficial instead of having to buy one in the bar. No information on breakfast given.
Good breakfast
Needs redecorating
Great location
Great location and very friendly and helpful staff. Bed was comfortable and clean
Rooms were run down. Bath and sink looked grubby but we’re just well worn. Shower hardly worked.
