After a hard days work, stayed at the HI Basildon, everyone was brilliant, Peter and Nikolaj was especially welcoming, looked after me so well and made me feel at home, I would highly recommend this hotel.
Room smelled like drains when I arrived, and A/C unit would only chill not heat so I had to rely on bathroom towel rail for some heat. Room overlooked very loud car park for Festival Park, and was near the elevators and the room door didn't do a good enough job of soundproofing hearing people coming and going. Reception staff were nice and I'm sure they'd have moved my room should I have asked but I do long days when I'm travelling for work and can only be bothered to move rooms under direst of conditions. Dinner and drinks in the bar one night was fine. Parking is £12 per day which added to the rate makes this place expensive compared to the very nearby Premier Inn which doesn't suffer from the noise.
Fab customer service from the bar. Thayn was lovely and chatty
Great hotel, excellent location next to lots of eatery places if not wanting to eat at the hotel. Nice walks around the lake too if wanting to get out. We ate out one night and then the second at the hotel. Served by Christina, Gabi, Joe and Jake through the evenings who were friendly and efficient. The food on the second night was very good quality (burger with sweet potato fries) so thank you to Medi & Georgi the cooks for that!
Room was clean and comfortable. Only thing to improve would be the air con but I cracked the window and all okay.
Our recent corporate event at Holiday Inn Basildon was ultimately a positive experience, but it did start with some avoidable delays. The initial booking process and alignment with Head Office were noticeably slower than what we have previously experienced when dealing directly with the Basildon Events Team. In future, it would likely be far more effective — especially for returning clients and allowing the client/business relationship to grow — to allow the local team to handle the arrangements from the outset. Once communication shifted to the Basildon team, everything became significantly smoother and more efficient.
From that point onwards, the service was excellent. The Events Team — Jodie, Michelle, and Thayn — were all a credit to the hotel. They were organised, responsive, and genuinely helpful throughout. All items we asked to change last minute where no problem.
A particular highlight was Thayn, whose professionalism stood out. He managed every last‑minute amendment with complete grace, positivity, and a “nothing is too much trouble” attitude. His calm and capable approach made the entire day feel effortless. He is truly an asset to Holiday Inn Basildon.
For future events, I will specifically request Thayn, as he played a major role in making this event run so smoothly.
Always a great experience here. Christina has exceptional customer service and keeps us coming back for our business meetings
Room clean. Food good. Staff helpful. Christina especially attentive and customer friendly
I have been staying at the hotel for the last few months and every time have been welcomed and look after.
Thayn and the team were always smiling and willing to accommodate me and made it an enjoyable experience in the bar.
Thayn the restaurant and bar supervisor was excellent. Great service and flexibility throughout. Food was good and Thayn helped ensuring a great stay by getting the football set up in the bar. Reception also good on helping with parking fee.
Great staff. Thayn and his team in the bat treated a great atmosphere despite being very busy. Staff couldn’t be more helpful.
Food great, rooms clean, easy choice to stay here
Hi always so polite and excellent food thankyou. Ray & karen
Fantastic breakfast catering for my coeliac vegan needs. Thanks to Christina, Adriana, Andrea and Ajit
I have stayed at this hotel at least 8 times and have always had a great experience mostly due to the friendly and helpful staff. Specifically the restaurant staff in the morning are amazingly accommodating. The dining room is always clean and welcoming and Christina, Marina, Patricia and Sandra always greet you with a smile and make sure your breakfast is perfect. They are assets as employees.
Just wanted to say what a brilliant time I had at this hotel.
Room was warm , clean spacious. Staff were outstanding especially Clare Matthams on reception who went over & above to ensure everything went smoothly. She is a true asset to the company, friendly & intelligent, she got everything sorted asap.
110% recommendation from me.
Stayed here during half term for 2 nights. Visited family in Billericay and Wickford.
This hotel is ideally located for leisure activities such as bowling, the cinema, darts, pool, mini golf, etc. plus various food and drink venues. Both trips to visit my family took no time at all by car.
I gave a 4 star rating for 2 reasons, the room was an excellent family room with 2 double beds and a double sofa bed, it could have done with a fresh coat of paint or some modernising in my opinion. The other reason and slightly out of the control of the hotel but both nights at 10.30pm we could hear cars and bikes revving their engines constantly in the leisure park car parks (boy/girl racers) which did keep us awake for a while. It would’ve been worse if you had small children. We did mention it the next morning to the hotel staff who acknowledged it happens and they tell the park security who sometimes escalate it to the police. If we stay here again we will request a room at the back of the hotel rather than the front which should reduce the noise.
Now for the good things. The staff were all welcoming, helpful and kind. Big shout out to Thayn who was friendly and took time to talk to us both days.
The breakfast was fresh, had a decent variety of hot food, pastries, cereals, yogurts and meats/cheese, juices and hot drinks. The setting by the law out the back was lively also.
We were on the 4th floor but never had an issue getting a lift or having to wait long.
We will happily return as the price was fair and aside from the two matters mentioned above, it was an enjoyable stay.
A big thank you to the team at the Holiday Inn, Basildon who did a great job keeping us all fed and watered at the board game convention there. They delivered food to our tables and promptly cleared the finished plates away, ensuring we could just focus on our board game playing.
A special thanks to Thayn and Jess for ensuring that my food reached me allergen free. Thayn took great care in helping me to adapt options to suit my dietary restrictions.
We run a three day social convention in the hotel conference rooms
The staff do a fantastic job of looking after us and always with a smile
Thayn ensured quick and efficient service and chef George fed us very well - thank you
Thayn was great - polite and attentive, although he didn't do a dance for us 🤣 Always a relaxed and friendly environment here. Thank you!
Just the break we didn't know we needed! Very relaxing, lovely people, Thayn very knowledgeable about his stock in the bar, very welcoming
I experienced excellent customer service especially the lady in red who gave myself and my friend 2 drinks vouchers each because of a mix up with my room which was quickly sorted. However I had difficulty with accessibility for people with mobility issues. I was fortunate that I had had a shower the morning I went. I had an accessible room but none of the bedrooms have a wet room or a walk in shower. Yes the bath was low enough for it to be stepped into but there was only one handle to hold onto on the wrong side of the bath. You need something to hold onto on the near side as well. If I was staying more than one night I would not have been able to use the washing facilities. Also the other issue I had was all the stairs going up to the breakfast room. If there was an accessible lift like the one at reception that would be better. I actually hurt my back climbing the stairs and that made breakfast miserable for me. I know you said if I sat downstairs, breakfast could be brought down to me but as my friends wanted to sit upstairs it wasn't a good option for me. The majority of the downstairs is taken up with a massive bar area. The breakfast bit should really be on the ground floor. Because of the excellent customer care service I would love to return (if you will have me back) but because of tge issues I encountered I could only give it 3 instead of 4 stars.
