Building, layout, restaurant and bar area all nice, and clean.
The rooms was old, walls full of marks, off coloured white pain, smelt of smoke. Dusty and mould in the bathroom. Carpets looked dirty, didn’t want to take off my shoes.
General staff were nice and friendly but management wasn’t so friendly or approachable.
Clean, breakfast good, staff great, comfy beds, WiFi great as had to work one day
All ok
Good position. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food with good choices. comfortable beds.
Having to pay £8.50 to park.
Friendly staff, very nice room, brilliant breakfast
Having to pay extra for parking
Old facility, need refurbishment. Executive room looks more like ordinary room in 2 stars hotel
Comfy bed and a lovely breakfast -lots of choice! Hotel facilities are great, general areas used by customers i.e bar area, dining area, spa / pool area are modern, clean and comfortable. Most staff were polite and sociable.
The rooms & corridors need updating - decor, lighting etc in room was tired. WiFi was far from great - really hit or miss! One member of staff, a ‘mature’ lady, at breakfast, who then served coffee at the bar, was miserable, bordering on rude - she didn’t even acknowledge my extremely polite 21 yr old when she served him.
Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Points
We booked a staycation at Holiday Inn Guildford over the bank holiday, using my IHG loyalty points, hoping for a relaxing family break. The plan was simple—let the kids enjoy the pool while my wife and I unwind and spend some quality time together watching movies on Netflix.
Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations.
From around 5pm, the hotel’s internet completely stopped working. We repeatedly checked with reception, only to be told it was “being worked on,” though there was no visible urgency or resolution throughout the evening.
To make matters worse, the air conditioning in our room stopped functioning as well. The room became uncomfortably hot, especially with two young children. After several attempts to reach the team, we were eventually offered a room move which didn’t make sense at 11:30 pm on the night and while the kids were fast asleep. Later we were given two fans—but only after a long wait, and far too late to salvage the evening.
What was meant to be an enjoyable and relaxing stay quickly turned into a frustrating experience. There was little to no proactive communication, no meaningful recovery effort, and no sense of urgency from management to address the issues.
The only best part which I should mention was the swimming pool which the kids and us enjoyed. So won’t take that away from all the other Terrible experience we had.
We left disappointed the next day, feeling that both the experience and our loyalty points were wasted. Sadly, we would not consider returning.
