Friendly staff, lovely hotel and central for main shops and York
Needs more breakfast selection, i.e porridge, prunes, yoghurts in pots.
Evening dinner menu should have more of a selection.
Clean, modern, big comfortable beds, free parking.
The location was quiet and peaceful.
It suited us to be a little way from town, although we had a car.
Excellent breakfast etc
Property upgrades and maintenence is required. Dated ensuite equipment.
Massive bed we had a suite very large room very clean staff very helpful very big carpark
Our room was a suite and the windows quiet small and no view of the grounds
I do not normally write reviews but on this occasion felt I should give credit where credit is due.
Having lived in hotels for 30 years I have a vast a varied experience.
I have stayed in York several times for business and pleasure and recently decided on a family weekend to York.
Knowing what parking is like in York (or the cost of using a public car park is), this factored in our selection as well as the fact we wanted a family room at a reasonable price.
I stumbled across the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel at a fair price and whilst slightly out of the City Center, it had a bus stop right outside and a Park & Ride a 2 minute drive away which is £4 per adult return. That said, an Uber is only around £10 each way which was more convenient for us being a family of 3.
I read the review prior about the hotel being dated and yes, it could do with sprucing up but then the price will increase as well no doubt. But, the hotel is clean and comfortable which is all you really need and the staff very friendly and cannot do enough. We had Breakfast both mornings which again was superb, great selection, hot and fresh even though it was a buffet style and the staff were very attentive and went above and beyond getting my Daughter pancakes when they overheard us asking for them as this is a weekend treat.
Bedroom was spacious, no air conditioning but there was a fan which was suitable even though it was one of the hottest weekends of the year. The room also had a fridge which was ideal for keeping our drinks chilled.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel. Some people are a bit naïve when it comes to star ratings and expect it to be the quality of the hotel which it is not, it is based on facilities.
I would definitely stay here again, great location (far enough out but not too far), great food, staff, free carpark set in nice grounds at a price which offered great value for money (booking direct gave us the best price with Breakfast included).
didnt get breakfast as not told when it finished
nice room and location
Hotel was great staff brill, I did believe our booking included breakfast but confusion was due booking.com info.
Our room was OK but being next to the lift was really not good, lots of late night noise.
Also on Sunday night due to private wedding celebrations fireworks were being 'let off' at nearly 11pm not great when you have families and pets staying - there was zero warning given too
Staff were super
Great location plenty of parking, not far from Rawcliffe park and ride. Staff all friendly, well presented. Prices what you'd expect for a city hotel. Bedroom clean but bathroom a little tired. Menu limited choices but can recommend their burger deal on just now.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly really couldn't do enough for you! Hotel was really nice to look at food was lovely, everything was reasonably price and not expensive at all!
Room 301 was absolutely fantastic and enjoyed spending part of our honeymoon in there before heading off to Whitby.
Location is good retail park 5 minutes away..
York, Scarborough and Whitby an hour 10 mins away... so brilliant location 👏🏼
If this hotel had a pool it would be a 100% perfect for me as I really did like this hotel...
Nothing really not to like as its pretty much got it all!!
Good location.
Friendly staff
Amazing hotel friendly spotless
The rooms and site were absolutely beautiful. It wasn’t too far from York and the connections into the city were great, with a bus stop right opposite and frequent buses.
As it was right next to a busy road, it was a bit loud during the night
The room was well laid out, lovely and clean and had tea and coffee facilities, a television and a telephone. There was also an iron, a ironing board and a hairdryer which came in handy. We did try the restaurant on the 1st night but didnt think it was worth what they charged. The bonus is that 2 minutes drive away is Hickory Smokehouse and the food is exceptionally good. The staff on reception were always friendly and polite and very helpful. I stupidly cut my arm on a door lock and thankfully reception had some plasters to help me out. The parking is free and all you have to do is register your car when you check in. The room was in a lovely and quiet position and even though there were parties on both evenings we never heard a thing. Lovely outside seating area and beautiful gardens. The drive into Central York is only 20 minutes and a large shopping center close by.
No dislikes
Position was good and plenty of parking
Breakfast was good
No fridge in the bedrooms. En-suite was in need of updating.
Breakfast was great
The room was far too warm in the night
