DON'T GO! Beautiful place, unfortunately we quickly forget the beauty because of the very poorly organized service. The majority of staff are very unpleasant or even rude. The lady at the cash register (night shift) allows herself to speak badly to customers and to give them moral lessons about their way of speaking and the words they choose in their sentences. We were loyal customers but unfortunately we will never set foot there again because every time we go there we end our evening very angry and disappointed.
Nice and neat place right by the beach super friendly staff plus great and affordable food.
Heel behulpzaam.
Staff at reception very nice, le Mr from Corsica very helpful and flexible
Pros:
The location of the hotel is unmatched. It is a walking distance to Gare De Dakar, Independence Place, and the ferry to Goree Island. The staff were courteous (initially), and the owner,Jean Micheal, was helpful. When we couldn’t charge our gadgets, he bought us a universal adapter. The free breakfast was also really good. I particularly enjoyed the fresh bread and eggs.
Cons: When you need to iron, you have to take it down to the staff, and they iron your clothes for you… which is an awesome service. However, the girl burnt my pants and did not say anything. It was later while I was out in town that I saw that my pants had a hole from iron burns. I would have appreciated her owning up to it.
Lastly!! This hotel needs to do better in the area of food cleanliness. Several times, I saw the staff use their FINGERS to put ice in glasses for patrons. The first time was the guy who makes cocktails. I saw him use his bare hands to put ice in a cup while making cocktails for a guest! This is unacceptable, and it turned me off majorly. I also saw one of the young girls in the restaurants do the same. It is appalling (esp in covid times). No one knows where your hands have been! I hope management corrects this immediately. Other than this, I enjoyed my stay here. The price was right, hotel was comfortable, and location, amazing! I will definitely stay here again.
If you're looking for a hostel-style party environment, you'll *love* Union Amicale Norse Hotel in Dakar! Hosted about 20 feet (~6 meters) from the building with hotel rooms, you'll be steps away from your dreams of superstardom at their Karaoke Night. Drift off to sleep to thumping music, the sweet sounds of drunk off-tune singing, and group clapping from 50+ of your closest friends. Our first night there, it lasted until after 2am - so there's plenty to enjoy!
If you're looking to get some rest at your hotel, I'd 100% recommend staying away from this place. It's well-located, but that's about it. Beyond the late night music (check the video), the showers hardly drain, the included breakfast is meager, and the owner is a total jerk.
A small, cosy lodge in Dakar. If you want something other than a big chain hotel, this is it! It has a fantastic view of the water and Gorée, and a nice pool. The staff are excellent…very warm and accommodating. I recommend it strongly.
Good
I was looking forward to staying here, but due to poor customer service prior to arriving, which perhaps was related to language barriers, but communication was done via email, I think my expectations lowered. I do not speak French, and perhaps some people speak English there but no one seemed to want to ensure we knew who could. I like that it is a small hotel, but because our flight was so delayed we arrived very late, and they left the key for us, and we were never welcomed face to face. I had work to do in the few days we had there and often when arriving there was no one at the desk. I was very surprised that there was NO refrigerator in our room. And unfortunately the AC, which even if it was on all day at the lowest setting of 16 degrees Celsius, it never cooled the room below 24 degrees. It was torture. And because I could not speak French or even did not meet the reception person, we could not find someone to speak to about it, and honestly, after the poor customer service up front I gave up. The view was lovely from our balcony. The food we had was good as well. The waiters who served us did their best to support us in ordering and that was very nice. There were indeed a lot of locals that used the restaurant throughout the week, but it was rare to see any locals who were indigenous to Senegal. This was my first visit to Senegal, and I'm sure the area was more wealthy and inaccessible to locals I anticipated.
A fridge, and better AC is essential. Please consider.
Good
The place was okay 👍 not bad at all!
Nice small hotel with amazing views of the ocean. Room was clean and functional, although a little small. Our first-floor room had an ocean view, which was pretty spectacular. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well.
The included breakfast was croissants, breads, boiled eggs, mixed fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea. It was more than adequate for us. We had one dinner at the restaurant, which we enjoyed.
The grounds were clean and well maintained, with a very nice pool and, of course, the amazing ocean views.
The staff was friendly, professional and helpful.
Be aware that on the weekends, local residents come to enjoy the facilities, so the pool area is pretty full with happy children and adults. The Friday night we arrived was karaoke night and the music was a bit too loud (especially with the awful “singing”) and it lasted until after 11pm.
Overall a very enjoyable hotel experience if you are flexible on weekends. I recommend overall.
Amical is a lovely oasis in Dakar. Right on the coast over looking Goree island. Nice restaurant on site and walkable to some restaurants in city. Service was friendly and helpful with taxis and side trips. Relaxing by the pool was perfect way to relax after being out and about. This hotel is also a club for local expats, and fills up with family and friends on the weekends. You also need to be able to speak some french, for both stay here and to travel in Senegal
Convenient location. Away from auto pollution and smog hanging over Dakar City.
Great with accomodating non-French speaking guest, which I am. Helpful and friendly staff. Location of hotel was convient for dining options. Facilities and amenities great!
Location is fabulous. Safe, walking environment, good food, great location to get transportation to attractions.
It is a basic room, you are paying for the view! Activities for other residents(not patrons of hotel), going on constantly.
Hotel constantly packed with locals.
Breakfast is bread, and coffee or tea. Noise could be minimized for hotel guests.
Property was clean,safe,staff pleasant,nice ambience.
I would stay again, because of the location.
Clean, safe, comfortable, close to attractions. I will stay again. The view is awesome!
Pros:
Union Amicale is in a great location with beautiful views of the Atlantic. I felt safe walking alone in the late evenings. And the staff I encountered were pleasant.
The lady (forgot her name) at the front desk was genuinely pleasant and helpful.
The room was simple but very clean and comfortable.
Their taxi driver (airport transfer) was on time and drove safely.
Cons:
The "breakfast included" was a baguette and tea; I can't remember if I was offered juice. Maybe.
One of the housekeeping staff accidentally washed my clothes. I did not request this service. I explained the situation to a gentleman who I believed was the owner or manager, and all I received was an apology and a request for the full amount to be paid. I expected to pay something because a service was provided, but not the entire bill because I did not request said service.
Lastly, if you need a taxi, walk to the entrance and negotiate with one of the drivers. I was significantly overcharged by their taxi driver. I knew I was being overcharged because I'd taken a similar route with a different driver for half the price. When I challenged the cost, I was met with a blank stare. Unfortunately, I wasn't well that day and my French is almost nonexistent, so I ended up accepting the high cost.
Despite the beautiful views and a reasonable price point, I doubt I'll return.
Good
Great location close to city. Pool and beach access was good and restaurant food was reasonably priced and fresh.
Staff were friendly and explained attractions. I would recommend this hotel!
