Perfect art nouveau building with comfortable rooms and a great breakfast. Years ago I chose this hotel for some colleagues visiting from London, was struck by the wonderful fireplaces in the bar, and now finally I have stayed there myself as well.
Lovely rooms and decor. Good shower and bathroom with toiletries . Comfortable firm bed.
Nice breakfast and staff
Air con keeps resetting to 23 degrees overnight making room too warm.
Net curtains needed attention - were falling off hooks so unable to shut
The entire building was very nice especially the lounge area with a real fireplace. Looked comfortable and warm, just what you need once entered into an hotel
There was no parking space so it was quite hard to find one near the facility
Original features
All good
Great location, town was just a short walk away.
Heating/ air con unit was extremely noisy
Great location and decor, great staff
Everything
The decor within the hotel was absolutely stunning, in the reception areas and in the room that we had.
The shower was very powerful and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
I was far too warm in our room. I didn't see the thermostat until before we were leaving. Two other couples that we were visiting with also stated that there room was too warm, despite adjusting the thermostat.
Booked a room for a last minute trip to York. Staff were welcoming despite our late arrival, and room was clean and comfortable. I was a bit worried about the location, but the walk to train station was a comfortable 10 minutes (slightly shorter than Google anticipated).
We did not have much time to enjoy the facilities, but what we did see was a stunning hotel with attention to detail.
Not much. The room was on the GF, but price reflected this.
The hotel was very Art Nouveau, absolutely beautiful interior. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was the kind of place you could sit with a drink and a book and stay there all day. The rooms were very clean and had everything you needed, toiletries, iron, hairdryer ect. The bed was extremely comfortable, (probably the most comfortable bed I've slept in). It's location was approx 20 mins walk to the main city centre so perfect if you wanted to be in the thick of activity or relax somewhere a little quieter. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning.
Nothing. It was brilliant
Loved the decor of the hotel it was stunning to look at. We liked the location of the hotel, it was well situated in terms of the places we wanted to go in York.
Very limited parking for a hotel of that size and not all the rooms are accessible for inside the building.
It was a shame about the courtyard planters looking rather unkempt with dead plants and weeds in them. Whilst we loved the idea of guests getting involved with planting seeds, we felt it would benefit from perennials for all year interest.
Whilst the staff were all lovely and polite, we waited over an hour for our breakfast to arrive after ordering.
I liked the hotel itself, it was very nice inside, with decent rooms, very well designed.
I hated how you had to spend £18 per night for parking, if I knew this before booking the hotel I would have found somewhere elsewhere, guess there's a reason it seemed good value for money for the nice rooms when they rob you blind to park your car.
Beautiful decor and a comfortable bed
Room was quite large and had seating for both of us, location good, not far from city. Decor was tidy and well maintained
Room was right next to the boiler house so noisy as boiler cut in and out
The battery in our room door was dead so we couldn't get in on arrival. Staff member changed it fairly promptly but there was no "sorry about that" or any recognition that it was an inconvenience. Just "ok that should work now" once it was changed (about a 10 minute wait).
The room was nice but the cups don't fit well under the Nespresso machine.
