Claredon Hotel

The hotel's location is excellent, as it's close to both the ferry terminal and the bus station.
My room (single room) was clean and quiet.
When you consider the price compared to the average price of hotel rooms in Oban, you really get a lot for your money.
Of course, you can't expect top-notch facilities at this price.

Despite some other visitors concerns I had a lovely experience. Easy to book, called a couple of times before to discuss arrival times and confirm bookings, staff were pleaseant and helpful on the call. On arrival on a busy and noisy Friday night, staff again were lovely and helpful, locals/regulars didnt stare or make us feel unwelcome, found parking right in front of the property, basically it was seamless - very welcome after a long night drive. Rooms were spacious, well-equipped and clean. Leaving early in the morning was simple as there was a prviate doorway for guests. While I appreciate some of the rooms may have been noisy on a weekend night we got three rooms on the top floor and had a quiet peaceful night. And it is very conveniently located in the town.

Lovely hotel for price - being on the top floor with luggage was not so much fun- amazing staff, large room and bathroom, walking distance to main parts of Oban. Bathroom had a bit of mold would be only real issie

It's a characterful pub with rooms above, and crying out for a facelift. Nevertheless our second floor room was clean and quiet and served us well for a one night stay before the ferry. For public transport location couldn't be better. Wetherspoon is handy for breakfast.
Karaoke enthusiasts could have a great stay here.

Clean older room, remodeled a little, nothing fancy, but the price reflects it (58£ i think) and it was fine for just one night. FYI 2 flights of stairs …

We stayed one night. The place is as described and as reviewed. Some will find it decent value and others will say you get what you pay for. The pub downstairs is full of friendly locals willing to chat you up if you stop in! Well located to walk Oban.

Room was close to ferry and main area. Would not recommend or stay here again. No lift and rooms are on the 2/3 floors, old building.

Very friendly staff and enjoyed meeting with the locals in downstairs bar.

Cheap and cheerful, if you are looking for luxury then this isn’t the place for you. However for the price I found it served my needs. Beds were fine and the room/bathroom were very spacious. I Would stay again.

Disappointing Stay, Not Suitable for Families or Solo Travellers

I stayed here recently and, unfortunately, the experience was quite uncomfortable. The pub on the ground floor creates a very loud and disruptive atmosphere — during my stay, a few intoxicated individuals made racist remarks, particularly targeting asians, which made me feel very unsafe. Definitely not a welcoming environment for families or solo travellers.

The building is old, and although the bedsheets and covers were clean, the bathroom was extremely dirty and clearly not maintained. There was a strong smell of smoke throughout the corridors, which lingered the entire time.

Check-in was slow, and no Wi-Fi details were provided, which made it harder to settle in. The only major positive is that the location is convenient, being close to the port area and public transport.

The bathroom was filthy, and to make things worse, the drainage didn’t work — water just pooled on the floor and wouldn’t go down. Totally unacceptable. The entire building is old, poorly maintained, and there was a constant smell of smoke in the corridors.

In all, this property does not offer value for money, and I would not recommend it unless you’re just looking for a last-minute, one-night stay and are prepared for a rough atmosphere.

Not level

It is an old, decaying hotel. The room smelt bad, and there was no way to open the window. The general state of cleanliness was poor. The fact that such a place is still available for rent is unbelievable.

Perfect location

Pictures that others have put up are a true view of the room YOU may be staying at, I thought working away from home and staying in digs was bad HOWEVER, they were the Ritz compared to this YOU SHOULD BE PAYING ME FOR STAYING THERE, if my wife had came with me, we would have been straight back home that day! If the right people went in here it would be shut down FACT!

we knew we were not staying in a high end hotel. this hotel is fine if you need an affordable place to stay. we stayed in a family room with 3 beds. one was a nirmal twin and thw other was a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a twin on the top. the bunk bed was nit comfortable but the single twin was. our shower had a small amount of black mold and the apartment had a musty smell. no wifi password was given and we didnt want to go i to the bar and ask so we lived without it.
