Exception service in a very cool space
Pros:

What stood out for me was the staff. Everyone excelled at being extremely helpful. One of the lamps wasn't working, and it was fixed (or replaced) by the time we returned to our room. We received daily housekeeping service, which seems like a little thing, but many hotels have stopped offering it, and I've come not to rely on in most places. Coming into a clean room with fresh towels always put a smile on my face.
At check-in we were offered an upgraded room, and at my request one that faced the street (to avoid side wall views).
The room was larger than expected; I appreciate a room that has a sitting area and a desk (which I used every day).
Every detail of the room was thoughtfully curated, from the fascinating wall graphics, to an extremely comfortable bed, to bedside USB charging ports, to a bulletin board over the desk, to thoughtfully placed lighting, to a beautiful and functional bathroom (with its own window), to a nice nespresso machine, complete with pods and creamer.
I especially appreciated the lobby level coffee/pastry restaurant. The hotel restaurant and bar were very inviting, but our schedule didn't allow time to explore. It was definitely a plus for many guests.
The hotel has a single elevator for its seven floors, but it was remarkably efficient. I rarely had to wait.
Finally, I hadn't been to San Francisco since the pandemic, and I had prepared myself for a city in decline. Quite the contrary. The city felt alive and safe.
Overall, this was a real find, only steps from Powell Street and Union Square.

Amenity Fee
Pros:

The hotel was fine. Good location, clean, modern, and the public areas looked like fun places to hang out. We were just there for a night, though. Honestly, the music theme seemed, at least to me, to be a bit contrived. I got a terrific price through Tripadvisor. Just $120 for a room that could have cost more. The surprise when I got the bill, though, was an amenity fee of over $40. Amenity fees really bother me. I do my best to avoid any hotel that charges them. They’re really disingenuous. What was the fee supposed to get me? I heard afterward that it should have gotten me a drink at the bar, but that was never offered. I read somewhere that it was supposed to get me a hot towel upon check-in, which of course is silly, but it didn’t happen. Up in the room, there’s a menu board with lots of extras that the amenity fee covers, but they were nothing I would use. Hotel Emblem, doing this is not a good business plan. I do overnighters in San Francisco about 10 times a year, but Hotel Emblem will not be on my go to list. After many emails and phone calls through Tripadvisor and the hotel, I did get the amenity fee returned. I imagine most people would just let it go and allow the hotel to pocket the money. I don’t know if the blame should go to Tripadvisor or the hotel, but in 2026, these junk fees should be done away with.

A special gem neary Union Square, focused on extraordinary service.

Cons:

My choice of a street-facing room may not have been the best one. Sidewalk noise, even five floors up, sometimes wafted through the room, but that was due to my choice, really, and certainly not the hotel's fault (in fact, a white noise machine was included in the room). The only negative at all was that the window (that offered the street view I'd asked for) was so dirty I thought it might have been intentionally flocked. I raised the sash to clean the bottom 18" (as others had done), which helped some. But it was a minor issue compared to everything else the hotel offered.

Great Value
Pros:

Very large rooms, by San Franciso standards, one block from Union Square. The beds are great and the bathrooms are equally large. The decor is modern and quirky but I had expected more unique touches. Off site valet parking is offered but it is an expensive daily fee. When I stayed it was $75, a day. The only real criticism is that the toilets, when flushed, are extremely loud. I don't know how they could be as loud as they are. The staff was warm and pleasant. There is a bar area and attached coffee/bakery which were both very nice. This is a great value for the price and I'd stay there again.

Top!
Pros:

Cons:

Niets op aan te merken

Unique style, location and vibe are all 10/10
Pros:

This place is phenomenal! The style of the rooms are really fun and unique ditto with their bar. The rooms are a bit small yes—but the style, staff, location, and price (especially in SF which is a pricy town) are all excellent.

If your traveling alone or with a S/O, I highly recommend this place.

Art, History, and Hospitality at Its Finest
Pros:

What a fantastic stay at Hotel Emblem! The historic character of the hotel combined with its beautiful artwork creates such a unique atmosphere. We were welcomed with a delicious sangria upon arrival, and every staff member was warm and inviting. From the front desk to housekeeping, everyone made us feel genuinely cared for. A wonderful San Francisco hotel experience—I can’t wait to come back!

Cool hotel in great location
Pros:

Loved this sweet hotel right outside of Union Square. Location is perfect- you can walk to most major tourist sights. Great food is close by too! Coffee shop is located on site and the bar in the hotel is cool as hell too. Front desk agent was friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend!

Diamond Earring
Pros:

This place was awesome! I lost my diamond earring down the sink and Andy went above and beyond to take the sink apart, clean my earring, put the sink back together and clean the bathroom. He was prompt, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back for this level of service.

Comfortable, with really friendly staff. The bar downstairs was really nice, but a little bit dead.
Pros:

Staff were very kind to us, and gave us an unexpected gift to celebrate our engagement. It was clean. It had all the basics, which was fine by us. While the small hotel did not have a restaurant as such, there was a small place to get breakfast to take away, plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as a 7-eleven.

Cons:

The bar was quieter than I expected, and drinks expensive for a tourist who doesn't earn a US salary. It is located right beside the Tenderloin, so lot of people doing the fentanyl fold outside. There wasn't a place to eat at the hotel or a gym like there would be in a bigger hotel, but we knew this in advance.
