Very cute hotel
The bed was so comfy
This is a beautiful hotel in a central location. We loved the decor and furniture pieces in our room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The adjoining restaurant is unique and a must-try while visiting.
Very wonderful location. And transportation
Loved the atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable
Property was nice and friendly staff but the location has much to be desired as it's located in a very rough neighborhood. Shout out to Emilia at the restaurant who went the extra mile to help me out, it was appreciated!
Reclaiming the city after ten years away! I’ll be back!
Hotel Bijou is clean, elegant, convenient and less than nearby chain hotels.
I've got complicated feelings. I frequently visit SF and stayed here as opposed to my normal hotel largely because this hotel was about $20 cheaper than my normal hotel; this was perhaps a mistake.
First of all, it's nice enough. It's clean, the beds are clean, the rooms are nice, that's a major positive about it.
That aside, I had a couple problems.
1) As described in the listing, there is no A/C. While A/C is generally not needed due to SF's temperate climate, hotels are large buildings and they're not always well-ventilated. I expected no A/C and anticipated a fan and windows that open. The fan, unexpectedly, wasn't a ceiling fan - it was a tower fan, on the floor, and didn't do much to cool the bed overnight. I tried opening the window but couldn't get it to stay open; because my stay was only for one night, I didn't call the front desk, so the window problems could easily have been user error on my part. :)
2) I don't love the area around the hotel. The vast majority of the Union Square area is safe, despite all of the rantings in the news these days, but this hotel was just a little bit too close to a couple blocks seemingly managed by absentee landlords so, unlike the rest of the Union Square area, there was more of a permanent & unusually aggressive homeless presence within a block or so of the hotel. SF is far safer than the news implies but I was quite surprised at how aggressive some of them were on a Saturday afternoon immediately after Labor Day weekend.
Quaint, historic. No airconditioning.
Pros:
- Hotel decor is cute, particularly in the lobby.
- Staff are friendly and helpful.
- very close to the Powell cable car turnaround and the Powell BART station.
Cons:
- There were so many homless people outside that my kids felt unsafe to walk in the evening.
- no air conditioning in the rooms! The fan they provided is not enough. If you open the window, it’s noisy because of tge homeless people outside.
- There’s this certain smell along the corridor that I cannot describe. I seems musty due to lack of proper ventilation
Didn't like that this property does not have air conditioner. this was a last minute reservation and I didn't know this. They have a fan in thee room but I also need to open the windows. For the rest it was a beautifull hotel and very clean. Confortable bed and pillows.
Homeless people are outside the front door on the sidewalk.
Terrible
Meow
This is a very nice hotel considering the price. The hotel is very clean, and the restaurant/bar is great. The staff are warm and friendly. But there was a lot of noise and yelling at all hours of the night, and our room was very warm without the heater on so we had to leave the window open. Overall, a good experience. I would stay here again, I’d just bring some noise-canceling headphones.
I thought reviews would be exaggerating the sketchiness of the area but it is unfortunetly one of the lesser parts of San Francisco. What was most upsetting is when I see "parking available" I expect it to be on property. However, I had to park in a third part lot on the over side of the street for $50. They should not advertise parking if it is not their or reliable. Additionally "breakfast" was some yogurt, muffins, and coffee. The room did look nice and was clean. Could have used a mini fridge or microwave. And I am not sure how I felt that the door was a passcode instead of a usual hotel door key. Not the worse stay but lot to take into account to determine if this is the place for you/worth it.
The front desk staff were nice (all of them). The room was a little dark. The area is close to public transport and easy to travel but a lot of homeless in that area and near the hotel. You will walk pass them when you go back and forth to the hotel. I am a solo male traveller. Of course, they wont do anything to you, but you still feel something. I know its nothing to do with the hotel. But it is something that San Francisco needs to look at.
Sketchy area. Right on edge of worst parts of city got homelessness, drug use and crime. We took our two children and they saw people injecting drugs on the street outside, plus a man in a tent lying by entrance, so it was way too dangerous for us. Hotel was ok but we couldn’t relax in such a bad area.
The hotel looks to be remodeled from an older SF style building with the cool fire escapes! The shower situation wasn’t great as the tub wasn’t working and the shower water pressure was so light I felt it was taking forever to do finish. Inside is cute (and tiny) but when you step outside, you’d met with a street of homeless crazy people. It seems to be in the worst part with the homeless as we drove many other places without seeing the same thing on any other street. They were available for booking and allowed dogs. Would not stay again entirely bc of location. Front desk girl was sweet
