Fantastic location. Very comfortable accommodation. Very laid back. Good food & wines. Very attentive staff. Special mention to Philip, Kaiden, Ashmita & Nico who went over & above to make our second visit very special.
Chose Spatia after reading reviews of similar Comporta area wellness resorts and not for one moment did we regret our choice.
The resort is sensitively designed and almost hidden amongst tall pines and eucalyptus trees. A feeling of peace and serenity abounds as you allow nature to embrace you. Our room was spacious, cool and exquisitely designed with a terrace open to the surrounding woodland: a hammock was hung across the patio.
Complimentary wine, pastries and fridge contents provided a welcoming touch.
The public areas are designed in the same cool understated way with the accent on relaxation and comfort. Two pool areas are havens of peace; low shrubs and fine grasses fringing these areas wave enticingly in the breeze. Your breakfast buffet is laid out beautifully and -although the food isn’t Spatias strongest quality- there is a kitchen open throughout the afternoon and evening providing decent fare.
Buggies or bicycles are available to move you around the estate and there are courts, spa and gym facilities too.
Spatia Comporta is a place for de-stressing, relaxing and unwinding; it delivers in spades!
The property and staff is OUTSTANDING! Gorgeous! Fabulous service and surroundings!!! ONLY ISSUE is you cannot leave the property to go to dinner or to the beach without paying 110 euros to get there and back. They should have a shuttle to Comporta but do not. No offense to the team it is a gorgeous hotel, pool, restaurant, etc!
Spatia was amazing - quiet, relaxing, the nicest pool I've seen and exceptional service, particularly from Kiran and Birendra. It is a beautifully kept property. Excellent food and attentive team. Easy to drive into Comporta. Can't recommend highly enough.
Beautiful!
We had a super relaxing and wonderful time at Spatia. The property and rooms are absolutely stunning - remote while feeling connected to Comporta. Wonderful dining and amazing service, particularly from Kiran and Birendra. Cannot recommend Spatia highly enough.
Property is very
Large and quiet. It has adult and children pool, and good Food.
Need a car or ask for golf
Cart to reach rooms.
Internet is really not good. Small gym, although with very good quality equipment.
Perfect for those that want to be alone.
Had a magical 2 weeks time at Spatia Comporta. The kindness and the smiles of the staff is unmatched. Special thank you to Soraia for her great problem solving skills.
The food is delicious and the waiters are very attentive to our needs. If you are looking for zen and beautiful spot Spatia is the place for you.
We stayed in a two-bedroom villa as two families of three, and it was perfect. The villa was very spacious, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed—including a huge TV where we got to watch Wimbledon. It also had its own private pool, which was a big highlight for both the kids and adults.
The standout feature was the staff—everyone was incredibly kind and helpful, which really made our stay special. A big thanks especially to Tiago, the hotel manager, who went above and beyond.
If you’re visiting with children, the villas are a fantastic option. Room service was quick and smooth, and the whole setup made us feel very much at home.
The hotel is ideally located—just 15 minutes from the beaches and 10 minutes from Carvalhal. A perfect base to explore the area. We’d absolutely come back!
Comporta’s Endless Beaches — But Don’t Come Without a Car
The coastline is breathtaking: long, golden beaches with space to unwind, surf, or do absolutely nothing. But here’s what most guides won’t tell you — don’t count on hotel transportation. Drop-offs and pick-ups are often delayed, ignored, or met with vague excuses. Taxis are few and far between, and ride apps don’t really operate here. To truly enjoy Comporta (and avoid unnecessary stress), having your own car is essential.
Second, prepare for the mosquitos — they’re relentless. Warm nights can feel like a full-on attack if you’re not armed with strong repellent. Comporta may look like barefoot paradise, but a little planning goes a long way.
Wish the hotel added these notes before we booked to be prepared . Our trip
Would have been much more pleasant
The hotels service was absolutely horrible. they have two drivers in the entire hotel one works during the day and one during the night. Even after arranging to be picked up at a certain time we still had to wait at least 40 minutes for the taxi to arrive.
Absolutely beautiful property. We travel a lot and were blown away.
Should be 5 *( Insane that it’s not. Landscape and natural setting is very special. Pool may be the nicest I’ve ever seen. Staff is committed to your happiness and seem to really love what they do. Management truly understands what hospitality means. Beautiful location in Comporta.
Bikes, Tennis, Paddle, etc Highly recommended.
Special place
Os quartos são distantes da recepção, falta sinalização para nos localizarmos dentro do espaço, mas olocal é limpo , café da manha excelente.
Beautiful, secluded and relaxing venue with a desert landscape typical of the area. The estate is in the middle of a natural forest that is ideal for relaxing bicycle rides nice tennis courts and gym. They have buggies and bicylces to drive around the estate. We stayed at a cabana which was very spacious. The staff is so nice and lots of littles gestures and gifts were given to us throughout our stay. Definitely feels high class but relaxed. A bit far from the beaches but all these types of resorts are. The restaurant has good food - try the local dishes like ensopado borrego. They made our mini honey moon special.
Ticks all boxes for facilities - spacious rooms, nice terrace, pool, tennis courts etc but the place has no soul. Serving staff are really friendly and helpful but no management interest other than trying to get us into signing up for an overpriced “special dinner”. I got the feel that guests are a sideline to the main purpose of selling their expensive (2.5 - 3 million €) villas
This was our second visit to Spatia Comporta, having stayed over the same weekend last year with close friends and our then 1.5-year-old son. We fell in love with the hotel’s design, atmosphere, and relaxed charm, and had such a wonderful experience that we were excited to return this year as a family — now with a 2.5-year-old toddler and my wife pregnant.
Unfortunately, while much of what we loved remains — the warm service from staff like Paolo, and the high quality of food — there have been some significant changes that negatively impacted our stay and would make us think twice about returning.
At the time of booking, we were told we’d be in a new suite “close to the pool,” with no mention of any other changes. Only upon arrival did we learn that the main pool and restaurant are now entirely adults only, and that all families are redirected to the “Spatia Club” — a noticeably older and more worn part of the property, located on the opposite end of the estate. The family-designated pool here was not only far less appealing, but also unheated and far too cold for any real use. Meanwhile, the adults-only pool remained heated and inviting. The separation felt less like thoughtful zoning and more like segregation — it was deeply disappointing and frankly felt like families were being hidden away, despite paying the same (if not more) for our stay.
It’s clear the hotel is still figuring out whether it wants to be an inclusive retreat or an adults-only hideaway. Unfortunately, families are the ones bearing the brunt of this growing pain — and we were far from alone in feeling this way. We spoke with multiple families who were equally upset, many of whom also said they were not told about the new policy in advance.
We fully understand and respect adults-only properties, having chosen them ourselves in the past. But this feels different. Never have we experienced a hotel that completely excludes families from shared spaces like the main pool or restaurant at breakfast. There’s a balance to be struck — and currently, it’s missing here.
I wish I was writing a higher-rated review, but when you leave a holiday with a disappointed wife and a toddler who sadly didn’t get the chance to swim and enjoy their time properly, it’s hard to. Unfortunately, the experience left a significant mark on what should have been a relaxing and happy family break.
Spatia still has many of the ingredients of a special place, and we do still love aspects of it. But unless there’s a clear and fair rethinking of how families are welcomed and accommodated, we won’t be returning.
*The attached photos show the family pool and breakfast dining area - noticeably very different to the main, adults only pool and restaurant area.
We booked Spatia having travelled to the hotel at the same time last year with our couple friends (who don’t have children) and us as a couple with an 18 month old. We had a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful new pool and restaurant in a cabana right next door. We enjoyed our stay so much we chose to book again this year. On booking this year we booked the newly built one bedroom suite with living room and were advised on booking the room that is was located just near the swimming pool. On arriving for this stay on check in we were told the pool and restaurant we had previously spent our entire stay in and around was now adults only (even for breakfast). They have reopened the old part of the hotel and that is where families are now expected to have breakfast and use the pool. The pool is half the size and more like a 3* affair in terms of the space where you have breakfast. The restrooms by the pool are old and need renovating. The pool is old and nothing in comparison to the beautiful infinity pool you now cannot access if you are a family. To top it all the adult pool is heated beautifully and the children’s pool is unheated and actually so cold our 2.5 year old didn’t want to go in and he usually happily plays for hours in the pool. On asking if we could use the adults pool we were flatly told no. I am pregnant and I also didn’t use the pool as it was too cold. As I told the manager in no luxury five star hotel we have stayed in all over the world (four seasons, Fairmonts) have families been divided for breakfast and if there is an adults pool it’s certainly not the main pool so that you feel relegated. The end effect is the adults area is quiet but the smaller children’s space feels busy and also like a children’s hotel which is the exact reason a lot of families choosing spatia are choosing a boutique hotel / luxury hotel not a hotel full of kids/ kids hotel. It is such a shame as the space and aesthetic of the hotel is beautiful and they have clearly staffed the hotel much more adequately this year but the reality is our experience was ruined by not being able to enjoy the main pool. If they do not change the status quo they will lose their family clientele. In short: if they reverse the rules we will return: if they don’t this will be our last stay here. Attached a few pics of main hotel vs the “family area”.
Exploring Comforta for few days found this beautiful and quiet hotel, just amazing
Traumhaftes Hotel mit sehr hoher Qualität
Nice place. Charming simple rooms. Lovely staff. This comporta area is beautiful to get away and really enjoy nature and drive out to the beach bars. About a 20 minute drive to get to the beach.
One awful thing was that the hotel had overflowing garbage dumpsters and litter on their road. I run 5km run evey day and had to run by this awful sight every morning.
I mentioned it to staff several times, but after 4 days, the hotel still had not cleaned any of it up it up. Talk about no attention to detail.
This was really sad to see. We travel to these special places and pay premium prices to enjoy unspoiled nature. This Comporta area is really special - we were stunned to see all this garbage everytime we drove in and out from the hotel.
Very shoddy.
