A very special place for me and my family

I have been returning to the Hotel Excelsior with my family for several years now, and every visit reminds me why this is such a special place. There are many beautiful hotels, but for me the Excelsior is exceptional because of its wonderful setting, its history and atmosphere, and above all the warmth of the people who work here.

I would particularly like to mention Roberta, the Deputy Manager, who has been extraordinarily kind and helpful to me and my family over the years. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for her…

One of the highlights of my visits is also Roberta’s fascinating tour of the hotel. Her enthusiasm for the Excelsior and her knowledge of its remarkable history, especially it’s connection to the movie industry, bring the building to life. Listening to her stories makes you appreciate that this is much more than simply an elegant hotel — it’s a place with a unique history and a very special connection to the Lido and Venice.

The Excelsior also has a deeper personal significance for me. I am living with cancer, and coming here gives me a genuine sense of happiness, relaxation and renewed strength. Our stays have therefore become particularly precious to me, and I very much hope that my family and I will be returning for many years to come.

Thank you, Roberta, and thank you to the entire Excelsior team for making us feel so welcome and for giving us another wonderful stay.

Still a great experience and place to come and rest in style, but don’t come looking for perfection.
Pros:

Old world charm and grace, tradition, comfort, fascinating history and style. People who are looking for absolute perfection and an Abu Dhabi 5 star experience fail to understand the Excelsior.

Cons:

Please improve the coffee at breakfast. This is my third stay and previously the house black coffee was always smooth, chocolaty and nutty; something to look forward to in the morning . This time it was harsh, grainy and bitter, very disappointing. It almost felt “instant”. I don’t go out of my way to find fault and complain, but please check for yourselves - this is Italy after all! I know there’s a fancy Nespresso machine at the buffet, but I don’t come here for that… This is not much to ask, especially at a 5-star hotel with a discerning clientele.
My sons said ketchup & English mustard would have been a nice accompaniment to the English style breakfast, along with baked beans, a staple in most 4-5 star hotels.

Letzter Boot-Shuttle von Piazza San Marco zum Hotel geht nicht mehr um 23:30 Uhr sondern leider schon um 21:00 Uhr.

I can't wait to come back!
Pros:

I loved my stay at the Excelsior. For three enchanted days, I completely forgot about my everyday life - what more can you ask for on vacation? I can't pinpoint anything special that made it so nice, it was just a combination of feeling welcome and being made comfortable. I did especially love the launch to Venice, though! And the ice cappuccino at breakfast was the best I've ever had.

Cons:

The plugs (electricity) are antiquated - it doesn't seem worthy of this hotel that one has to plunge underneath the bed to try and find one...! Also, I would have appreciated a kettle in the room.

Sérénissime.
Pros:

La délicatesse de cet hôtel historique. La gentillesse et l’efficacité du personnel. La beauté du lieu, l’agencement des espaces communs, l’odeur de sels marins et de bergamote qui y flotte. Le taxi bateau mis à disposition toutes les 30 minutes pour rejoindre Venise. Le petit déjeuner aux produits raffinés et simplement bons. L’accueil simple et l’efficacité hautement pro des équipes de serveurs dont Aïda, Maria-Sole et Nicolo représentent je trouve « le service Palace », discrets, toujours présents, dévoués à leur tâche et très attachés à « l’étiquette » un vrai plaisir que d être accueillis chaque matin par leurs sourires. Partout dans l’hôtel chaque membre du personnel est tout à fait dévoué à son travail par ailleurs.

Cons:

Plutôt surprise par le comportement de quelques clients…… mais ça. Ça fait partie des quelques désagréments de la vie. J’ai trouvé que les interventions du personnel étaient d’ailleurs efficaces et intelligentes….
