An Icon
Pros:

Staying in Hotel Cala di Volpe is always an absolute pleasure; it is quite simply one of the most unique and iconic hotels in the world !

Firstly the setting is on a magical a bay with the most beautiful views and we were especially appreciative to have been given a sea view junior suite with a balcony to take them in from. We ate at the Barbecue by the pool, Le Grand and Matsuhisa Japanese and each one of the restaurants was delicious with the buffet lunch and breakfast having such an amazing selection.

But it is the staff that ultimately make a hotel and the staff at the Cala di Volpe are some of the best trained and professional in the world. They combined that with a warmth and friendliness which is always a winning combination. Particularly of note; Annalisa who with her concierge team went out of her way to help us plan various aspects of our trip to perfection, Luca Idini in reservations for his help and kindness with our reservation, Eleonora in guest relations for the many small touches such as the gift of the beautiful Cala fox teddy bear (as photographed) to take home, Andrea the head bar man for his delicious cocktails on the terrace and Franco Mulas the GM who was around the hotel every day with his humour and charm.

You can always tell how well a hotel does things by the number of returning guests and it w nice to see so many familiar faces again from my previous stays

I cannot wait to be back next year...

Pretentious Without Cause
Pros:

For a Marriott property, we found the employees to be extremely rude. Don’t bother wasting your time if even to have lunch or dinner on this property.

An Iconic Hotel with Stunning Sea
Pros:

I have been going to Porto Cervo every year for the past five years. I have stayed at Pitrizza Hotel, Romazzino Hotel, and Cala di Volpe. We stayed at Cala di Volpe three times. The food, service, and staff of the hotel are very good. You reach the beach by boat service, which is a bit of a handicap. There is no option to dine at the beach, which is a downside, but the sea is wonderful. With its design and colors, it is one of the iconic hotels of Porto Cervo.

Scam
Pros:

We came to Cala di Volpe Hotel just to have a drink and enjoy the view. No one told us there was a minimum spend or anything like that. We each had one drink, and then they brought us a bill for €760. Total scam.

When we asked about it, the staff were arrogant, rude, and completely unhelpful. They acted like it was normal and didn’t care at all. He said leave a bad review we don't care, but pay the bill, and left.

This place might look fancy, but the way they treat people is awful. Avoid it unless you want to be ripped off.

Total scam - bait and switch with prices - tourist tap 100000%
Pros:

Tourist scam. Manager was rude and aggressive.

We stopped in for a quick drink before dinner, just 2 drinks each, no food. The waiter told us it was a 50 euro minimum per person, which we agreed to. Then the bill came: 600 euros for 5 people.

When we questioned it, the manager came over and was a complete a-hole. dismissive, rude, and totally uninterested in resolving anything. He just kept saying “it’s on the menu” and walked away. No apology. No explanation. Just attitude.

Had we been told it was 120 euro minimum per person, we either would’ve made this our full dinner or never sat down to begin with. This was blatant bait-and-switch. Nothing about this place is honest. They prey on tourists and act smug when you push back.

We’ll be disputing the charge with Amex and reporting this place everywhere. Do not go here. You’ll get ripped off and disrespected.

Back to Business School
Pros:

I honestly don't understand the pricing wisdom of the geniuses that run this hotel. They charge a fortune for the room which, to be fair, if you don't like it, don't book! However, once you get over the exorbitant room rate, don't charge €15 for a tiny Cola Zero or €18 for a double espresso. That is simply slapping the consumer in the face. I honestly would rather you charge a higher room rate and have all these minor amenities included. It would leave a much better feel for guests. Given how popular your hotel is, once you book in advance the pricing sting is taken out of the stay far in advance and expectations are high. But, then it is stupid prices for soft drinks, coffee, Padel and water sports. It all leaves a bad taste. A child can't have a soft drink anywhere in the property less than €15. Do you really need that F&B margin to survive? Price it into the room!!! I fully understand paying for alcohol. I'd gladly pay the extra cost for cocktails in your fantastic bar. That is a pure option and not all are alcohol drinkers.
Your business psychologists are clearly caught between luxury European and American pay-for-every extra (as it is Marriott). I guarantee you that 90% of your negative reviews would go away by a room rate that includes (at a minimum) soft drinks and coffee. Same goes for tennis, water sports and Padel. Don't advertise great facilities if they are not included.
For all your seemingly sophistication, you are missing some basic consumer fundamentals.
Also, a tip on checkout for the hotel staff? Seriously? What a joke! Offer it to your wait staff or lunch bills. Why to the overall organisation?

Awful
Pros:

We did not have a good time and simply, the staff need retraining. What makes me laugh is the responses to the poor reviews. Whoever writes those is brilliant. Maybe whoever that is should be in charge of retraining the supercilious staff. No need to respond to my review - you’re the best thing about the hotel!

The best of Sardinia
Pros:

You cannot beat Cala di Volpe's location or service. The building is a Jacques Couëlle masterpiece ad you are living in design history. The staff understand hospitality and go above and beyond. Breakfast is amazing. The olympic sized outdoor saltwater pool shaped like a lake is just fantastic. Gorgeous private beach accessible with the hotel's launch. Great bar and aperitivo watching the boats go by. I wish they didn't price gouge with the lunch buffet but fortunately there are lots of delicious places to try in the area.

Pros:

The rooms are absolutely tiny - we had the 3rd or 4th cheapest room category and we still couldn't fit out suitcases in the room. Room service was almost impossible in such a tiny room. Moreover, you have to take a shuttle to the beach which is a bit of an inconvenience. The facilities and the overall hotel building is very underwhelming for the price.

Having said that, the service and all the staff are absolutely incredible especially given the size of the hotel. They truly go above and beyond to make you feel special. Likewise, the food (especially the lunch buffet) is one of the best lunch restaurants we've ever experienced in a hotel.

Overall the hotel is definitely not good value for money in my opinion. If this hotel was not in Sardinia it would cost a fraction of the price and would probably be 4 stars.

Pros:

They’ve turned this into a fancy Marriott. The food choices cater to the mega yachts that anchor nearby. The “barbecue” lunch by the pool is 250 pp. the only alternative is a qr code order app that reminds one of a jack in the box drive thru. They don’t even pretend to care about feeding the hotel guests. They have a matsuhisa and beefbar. Why? Presumably for billionaire yachter’s. It’s just inauthentic and the service is indifferent. I was here 30 years ago. Was totally different. This has been reduced to a Marriott bonvoy benefit. Days gone by, the owners remembered your name. The beach is nice. Otherwise makes me feel like I’m in a Scottsdale Marriott.

Amazing ocean gym
Pros:

Amazing ocean gym and private harbour and pool. The hotel needs a make over to become leading again. "The fresh juice" was from last day, staff were help full. The entrance needs a paint. A super five star - but not a luxury class hotel. Worth a lunch visit.

TRIP OF A LIFETIME!!!
Pros:

Okay, so where in the English language do I search for words descriptive enough to articulate our MAGICAL stay at one of the finest hotels in the........WORLD!! I do struggle because I am not sure I can describe correctly, how INCREDIBLE our stay was! If you are lucky enough to even be thinking about visiting Sardinia, do yourself a HUGE favor and book the Cala di Volpe immediately!!! From the moment I made my booking, I knew I found a special place. The correspondence and assistance from the concierge team was unmatched!! (Mauro, we miss you so!! The most helpful, kind, interested and genuine concierge rep we ever experienced! Giovanni, Annalisa and Daniele, all outstanding as well!) The property alone is worth the trip! You might never want to leave! The decor is outstanding and immediately gives you the feeling you arrived at a slice of heaven that will envelope your soul!! EVERYTHING is outstanding, from housekeeping to any department you can think of, it is apparently clear, the staff is only concerned with making sure your stay is beyond your expectation. The breakfast was outstanding but what really stood out was all of our conversations with the incredible staff. Antenello, thank you for telling us to explore Alghero and the gorgeous La Pelosa beach (a must!) What a day trip we had after chatting at breakfast and taking all of your advice! Alessio, Misha, Guispee, Roberto, Nicola, ALL of you won our hears! And please, I usually hate to list names for fear of leaving someone out, so please know I do mean EVERYBODY when I express these sentiments!! The front desk became family to us, Ronny, Lilian and Chiara, always met us with smiles that could melt your heart and chats that we looked so forward to!! Another wonderful treat was meeting Luca, the reservations manager!! What a delightful man that we had the sheer great fortune of spending a little time with, getting to know him and having his assistance with a request for a future stay regarding a family celebration! You will feel you are staying with family just from the warmth and dedication of this ENTIRE hotel and its staff!! My husband and I have traveled to 80 countries, stayed at countless high end properties and I can honestly say, the Cala Di Volpe will go down in our travel history and the FINEST of them all! You really have to go there to understand what I'm talking about. If you are in the middle of planning your trip and have any hesitation at all, please trust me when I say, you will NOT be disappointed in your choice! I am aware that there are some questionable reviews posted regarding price or attitude, etc. I will say this.........if you have ANY problems with the Cala Di Volpe, you must take a really long, hard look at yourself. Because if you can find fault with such perfection, the issue is not with the hotel! Yes, it is on the expensive side but just go with the attitude that it is worth every penny for this luxurious experience and I can guarantee that any smile you share will be met with an even bigger one from every single staff member on duty! This is not a hotel stay review........this is a life changing experience review!! After staying at the Cala Di Volpe, nothing we ever do in our future travel life, will compare! I say this from my heart to yours. Treat yourself to an experience of a lifetime and be open to all the magic that will unfold!! :-)

Pros:

All was fine until one day my son decided to wear shorts. Upon walking into the hotel lobby from a nice dinner he was accosted by 2 worker who literally flipped out that he was wearing designer shorts. They started demanding he leave the hotel immediately despite us spending a fortune per night . He was not wearing a bathing suit and flip flops. He was well dressed and we had just come back from a nice waterfront restaurant. They acted as if he was a criminal walking into the hotel and created a scene in front of everyone. When you have a hotel in a tropical area that reaches 100 degrees you shouldn’t be yelling at your client about wearing shorts. He wasn’t wearing a bathing suit and flip flops. The staff was a rude , pretentious and complete snobs. They ruined the whole vacation vibe that we paid so much money for. Find another place in my opinion.
