Smoke smell on the second floor

The front desk guy was nice. Bed was comfortable. Good TV.
The musty smell. The horrible smell outside. Very outdated. Huge dead spider in the shower that has to have been there for days.

Room was claen, bed was comfortable, breakfast was good. Door to the bathroom would not stay closed and doesn't latch.
The bed was very comfortable. The building was quiet. Nice shower.
There was not a breakfast as promised. No one turned on the waffle maker. The bread was dried out. The orange juice was not working. There were some small granola bars and small amount of cereal, neither of which I was interested in. And no one was there to ask for other items, even if they had anything else to offer.

Dumpy and rundown
Very dusty room and dirt on the carpet, smell was musty and things felt damp. We had to unplug the fridge because it was “whistling”. Very poor breakfast option. Would not recommend
The property is rundown inside and out. Inside the building there was an odd odor, luckily only in the halls and not in our room.
The mattress wasn’t terrible, the linens were very thin though. The only light for the bathroom also turns on the bathroom vent which was extremely loud.
Staff was friendly and the early check-in was appreciated.
Place was terrible. Power went off and front desk didn’t care left early and didn’t get a refund or anything. Stay at your risk
Absolutely nothing
They informed me upon arrival that they cancelled my room at 2pm. I was not notified. I drove 12 hours and called them twice too remind them I would have a very late check in and no one told me anything until I showed up after 1140p. Had to call around and drive 30 minutes to another hotel with my children after driving 12 hours. The lady told me I didn't do the precheck in so they cancelled. I was driving and they could've called! I have never in all my years on bookings.com had to do a precheck in. They canceled my room at 2p they said. Therefore I will NOT PAY THEM, I had free cancelation until 6pm that day. Thank you to quality inn in ames who accommodated us and gave me a discount because they said this isn't the first time they have had people coming to them because super 8 in story city canceled a room with no notice! The lady at super 8 was rude and wouldn't even give me my license back when I went to leave, I had to threaten to call the cops and then she gave it to me.
Coffee was horrible. The color of tea!!! No one came to the front desk for more than 20 minutes when we were trying to check in. Concrete in the parking lot was a major trip hazard. Otherwise we were very pleased

Location
Reserved a king, did not have available at check in. The smell was awful, throughout the building, lots of paint/ construction not finished, black mold on walls, several large holes in bedding. Lobby restroom doesn’t lock…too many things to explain.
We asked for a non smoking room and were given a room with an ashtray and people had smoked in the room, Burn holes in the coverings on the beds.
AC was not great, the water faucet leaked at the handles, and first burst of water out of the facets was rusty. The desk clerk was kind and accommodating and the room was clean.
