It seems as though this hotel chain might utilize a scam to try to get more money for an upgrade. We booked a Room with a Queen sized bed and we were given a room that was a dump, with a view of sheds, etc. Room 119. Ask them for a picture of this room and the view. My wife would not stay in the room and we asked for an upgrade which we were given. They offered us the room that probably was the room we booked for an additional NZ$50 per night and then a room with a geyser view for NZ$70 per night. We chose the geyser view as it was the cleaner room. This type of scam was then attempted to be employed at the Rydges in Christchurch. They even tried to cancel our booking. When I explained our experience in Rotorua, they then gave us a decent room.

Lovely big bedroom; very comfortable.
Bathroom was dated (shower over bath and shower curtain) and toilet was really dirty especially the area just behind the seat.
This hotel is right on the edge of Rotorua & good as base for exploring the area.
It’s very close to Te Puia thermal springs & therefore there’s a bit of a pong, which you get used to eventually.
The hotel has good parking & is easy to find with a decently priced fuel station close by.
The staff here are very helpful & there are decent facilities.
The pool & hot tub at the rear are thermally heated & did look good, but we didn’t use them during our stay.
We did use the bar for drinks & eating on an evening as it was a fair walk into town - substantial portions & good quality.
The room was over the front entrance, so was busy & noisy 24 hours a day. It did keep us awake on occasions.
The bed was very comfy.
There was a fridge & drinks making facilities which were decent & we made good use of them.
The bathroom was lovely & compact with a good strong shower & decent toiletries.
The toilet was a bit close to the wall & anyone really tall might have an issue.
