Pros:

My daughter and I spent two nights at The Inn At Montchanin. The bedroom and bath were lovely and had every comfort that you that you can imagine. However, I thought when I booked the room, there were no stairs you entered the little house into a small living room where there was a sofa, a chair, a small sink, microwave, a refrigerator (when they say complimentary drinks, they mean two sodas) and a. TV. The stairs to go upstairs were very steep and I, being a 78 year-old woman, had a very hard time going up the stairs since I live in a one story condo. I definitely would consider going back if I could have a room without stairs.

Pros:

Beautiful room interior. Nice appointments. Check in lodge was large and quirky. Fun to look around. Wish it was a bed and breakfast not solely an inn.

Pros:

The Inn consists of several different small buildings with a few rooms in each. Our room was cute, with a very nice large bathroom. It was on the third floor of one of the small buildings. No elevator, so this needs to be considered in case of mobility issues. No breakfast, but there’s an in room Keurig coffee maker. We did not try the Kraft Kats restaurant. While this hotel is close to Winterthur, Longwood Gardens, and Brandywine State Park, it’s definitely car dependent.

Pros:

Very friendly staff and the dinner I had at the restaurant was delicious. I would suggest that the bathroom in the room I stayed in is in need of renovation. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and the location was great.

Unique property. We were surprised there was no food available at the Inn. We would especially have appreciated breakfast.

Great stay
Pros:

Stayed here for a few nights so we could attend my son’s graduation at University of Delaware. This place was a fantastic option since it was not far, only about 25 minutes away and we could get a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite so the whole family could be together. The grounds were just beautiful and the cottage quaint and beautifully appointed. Bed was comfortable. We wished we had more time to spend there. The only downsides and these are truly minimal- we would 1000% stay there again.
1- they don’t tell you online the suite has 2 sets of steep stairs. This was not an issue for us since we had our young son with us but had we had my aged in-laws with us as originally planned, it would not have been good. You do have to climb a set of steep stairs to get to each bedroom.
2- the TVs are very outdated. I get it- it’s a historic hotel but then either commit to that and have no tv or get with times and upgrade to a real flatscreen for each room. Again, we weren’t there much so not an issue for me so much as my husband and son who wanted to watch the NBA playoffs together. The small monitor like tv in the common area was not ideal.
3- the common area in the suite was not very comfortable. Again, think old small furniture we all had to retreat to the bedrooms to be comfortable and then we couldn’t be together. Small improvements could fix that. Bigger tv hanging on the wall, comfortable couch..
Other reviews have noted the close proximity to train tracks. It’s true, they are close.
