We booked Kilhey Court for my mum's 90th birthday. From the first time we went to look at it every member of staff was absolutely first class. Helen from the events team led us through the booking and was on hand quickly and efficiently through to the day itself. We had booked a semi private room with a table for 20+ people. It's a lovely room and we were given private use of an adjoining relaxing room. This was excellent for several young children we had with us. The staff on the day, in particular Blake and Janice were brilliant, looking after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble and they were constantly on hand to assist with anything we needed. I really can't fault anything at all and would highly recommend Kilhey Court as a venue for similar functions.
The hotel building and surrounding grounds are pleasant and have a lot of character.
My stay was seriously affected by multiple unresolved issues. The heating in Room 311 was not working from the beginning of my stay, and despite repeated complaints to reception the problem remained unresolved for several days. Shortly after, the room developed a strong unpleasant odour which made it uncomfortable to stay in.
After several follow-ups I was forced to change rooms, which caused unnecessary disruption. Unfortunately, the alternative rooms provided were also below acceptable standards, with visible dirt, poor housekeeping, and spider webs on the windows. I was repeatedly told I would be moved to a better room or into the main house, but this never happened.
In addition, one reception staff member behaved in a dismissive and unprofessional manner when I raised my concerns, stating that changing rooms was “my choice,” which was unacceptable given the situation.
I was also informed that the duty manager would contact me regarding these issues, however no communication or resolution was ever provided. Overall, the lack of response to complaints, poor maintenance, and low housekeeping standards made the experience very disappointing.
The staff were second to none. Really polite, helpful and professional. Agy* (spelling) in particular was fantastic. The location was also good for a break, of a little out of the way. The main house had lots of character.
Rooms are a little dated, some cleaning issues (which admittedly was resolved right away), and a few electrical fuse issues. Again, while frustrating, staff sorted things quickly.
Great location with the nicest staff. I was there with my parents and their little dog, so we ate in the bar. But we were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay.
I upgraded to a small suite, and this gave me a super comfortable bed, lots of sitting space and a spa bath. Although the powerful shower was the main attraction!
We didn't have the best weather for our visit, but the grounds were still lovely.
The gym facilities are excellent by hotel standards with a good range of S&C equipment and plenty of cardio kit including three decent running machines! I also appreciated that the facilities were open early.
Whilst my room was spacious and spotlessly clean, I think it might be ready for a bit of a refresh.
Clean and very impressive building
