arrived at hotel around 16:45 to check in and was told abruptly by a security guard at the door before i’d even set foot into the building that all the hotel bookings were cancelled because the hotel was housing refugees and i should have received an email telling me of this situation. needless to say i checked all emails immediately and didn’t find anything thus leaving us stranded without accommodations for the night.which meant we had to sit and wait in our car for 2 hours till the show we had come to see started and afterwards had to drive 2 hours back home so a totally disappointing experience and to top it off i ad paid in advance so am currently out of pocket and hoping for a full refund asap
I almost booked this hotel for a two night stay for myself and my partner.I recently discovered that the Home Office are currently using this hotel to house asylum seekers!
In the end,i decided to book up a different hotel!
Awful place. Terrible service and some of the guests were very rude.
I would never stay here again.
There are plenty better places and id suggest a skip or cardboard box would be better.
Why pay money to be treated like this
Only stayed one night due to the hotel filling up with Asylum seekers
They seem to be more concerned with them than the people of the united kingdom Place was sub standard to put it mildly. I would say to you they have lost their way and will be finished once the magic money tree dries up from the government
I arrived at 9pm with my prepaid guaranteed booking to be told the hotel was closed. However, there were people going in & out so I queried it & was then told it was fully booked. I said I had a confirmed paid for booking & was told they had cancelled it. I said I'd received no communication to say that from either the hotel or from Hotels.com but they just said they'd had a big block booking so had cancelled all existing bookings & there were plenty of other hotels in the city. I was offered no help arranging other accommodation & was basically left to walk the streets. Absolutely disgusted.
The room had damp in and was very cold on a night, heating didn’t work and the cleanliness was disgusting there was hair in the bath which wasn’t cleaned properly, toilet wouldn’t flush properly and the room smelt like cigarettes. And also the fire alarm would randomly go off whilst sleeping this would scare me. Worst hotel I have ever been to. I will never book again
Was ok window and net curtain needs a very good clean, toilet dont flush very well felt the springs in the mattress tv remote didnt work with the tv and smoke alarm went off about 6.30 waking us up
I was charged twice for the same room and still have not been refunded. The service was slow. Check in took ages. My room wasn’t even ready when I got there. I would never stay in this hotel again
Room very dusty
Avoid like a covid ward. Chaos at check in. Rude staff. Hotels guests openly complaining. Dirty lobby. Broken toilets. It was an absolute nightmare. Ruined the weekend. Do not use this hotel, not unless you’re that drunk you don’t care where you sleep and then I’d probably recommend you sleep rough.
Slow check in, tired looking room, grimey looking bathroom, a lot of noise from the corridor. Fire alarm went of for 30 seconds at 5 am, false alarm but never really got back to sleep after that. I have sayed in a lot of Britannia hotels as they are a cheap bed for the night and generally they are old and tired but pretty clean and and efficient . This place was ok but i wouldn't stay again
Convenient to all local facilities
Everything secured by covid friendly packaging, including the door to the room. This made the stay pleasing knowing that hygiene was at its best. Staff interaction is not the best, having stood outside a lift to go to the room after a long day and finding out once it came it doesn't go up but only comes down, doesn't help when there is a staff member behind the reception desk watching as you make the mistake, without notifying you of the issue.
Ourselves and another couple booked this hotel as an overnight stop on a trip to Wales we arrived late evening so it was to late to arrange anything else.
This is not a Hotel it is a Doss House and I am sure it is used for emergency accommodation for Druggies and anyone else in need judging by the weirdos walking the corridors.
The place is filthy and falling apart the rooms smell vile and the smell of Shake and Vac that they use to disguise this gets in your throat. The exterior Windows are 3 inches deep in Pigeon droppings and used as a roost at night, the Carpets are Stained the Mattress is stained with the Springs poking through, there is no Hot Water in a COVID crisis, there is Mould on the Windows and Walls, the surfaces are sticky.
This place should be condemned as a Hotel and they should not be able to take peoples money using false advertising .
I did not expect much for the price but did expect a clean room with hot water.
If you are considering this Hotel think about a Shop Doorway it would be cleaner and more comfortable, this is an absolute DUMP.
The hotel was dirty the receptionist would not help in anyway whatsoever an absolute disgrace & will tell my friends NEVER EVER stay there !!!!
Value for money most definitely. More than expected for the price. Not a plush palatial experience but a satisfactory one with a great accomodating desk staff. Unfortunately no on site parking but NCP parking 30secs away and downloading the app was able to park for 21hours for £3.50. Win win😁
Well my shower wasn't workin it's smelt of mold in there I had room 116 and had all black dust and dirt all in my bath common from the cellin and I paid 34 pound for nothing it was a Disgrace
Im so shocked and agry at the state this Hotel in abd what they expect “guests” to put up with! I would not let my dog stay here. Do not believe the pictures at all on website! The entrance is run down. When you walk into the lobby the wall paper is peeling of the walls and you met by a smell of stagnant water. The reception was ok enough when giving us our door key. When we arrived into the room the smell of the room hit you with old cigarettes and must! The carpets were filthy and the walls where more wholes and scrapes then anything elsem the wholes did not stop there. Wholes all in doors. Looked out the window and essentially no outside but surrounded by thr hotel building filled with pigeon excrement and Pigeon mating ground. It was pure filth out there. A generater if some sort kicked in making a anti social screeching rumbling noise how you eould sleep with that I would never know! We then went into the bathroom where agsin walls were filthy and wholes throughout. The sink had no way off emptying water. We immediately went down stairs to tell the receptionist who basically gave zero f*** she gave us the face that says shes tired of hearing complaints. She gave zero compassion or customer service and definitely rufused to refund us. I had to ask for customer complaint email. This was my first night away from my allmost 4 year old as a singie parent. This hotel ruined my night! We had to try find somwhere to go stay but most places booked due to football! We had to pay for another hotel which was out our budget but we had no choice. Extremely upset!
Where to start - the toilets flush, complimentary shower gel, a chance to get off the grid on account of there being no Wifi. Ignore all the negative reviews, the truth is the Hotel Britannica is a 3 star hotel opposite a Wetherspoons.
The bed legs were broken
The bath was disgusting
The walls were disgusting
And walk paper hang down
Pub opposite is open till 3 and singing and shouting in the garden
Trian st giving our loud messages all night
The Tv so small struggled to see it
Had No sleep
The whole place smell of damp
Don’t be taking on like I was with trousers press power shower ect None of that
NEVER STAY Again
No food no bar
No vending machine
1 loo roll !!!!!
