Room was a little small but was only for 1 night after an extended holiday

THE DERWENT MANOR WAS PERFECT FOR OUR TWO NIGHT STAY AND ALTHOUGH A WEDDING WAS TAKING PLACE WHEN WE WERE THERE, IT DIDN'T AFFECT OUR STAY IN THE SLIGHTEST.
ON ARRIVAL, WE WERE EXPECTING A VERY CORPORATE APPROACH BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AND THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING.
THE STAFF WERE AMAZING, FOOD WAS GREAT IN THE BAR AND EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS, WE ATE THERE BOTH NIGHTS.
BREAKFAST WAS GOOD.
CHANTELLE IN THE RESTAURANT WAS GREAT AT HER JOB, EFFICIENT AND FRIENDLY AND DEFINITELY DESERVES A SPECIAL MENTION!

Reception staff were very helpful
The food was poor quality except for breakfast . The wait people didn’t know what they were serving and it took a long time unfortunately you cannot eat soup with a fork. The rooms were dark and it was difficult to read
When I booked this hotel a year ago for the great north run it had a pool and leisure facilities. When I arrived I found out that it was closed for renovations. If they had made me aware I would have cancelled. The hotel is still very good and the restaurant is quality

Thee location, the views but the staff were incredible especially the housekeepers, nothing was too much trouble !
Not really dislike just unfortunate that the spa facilities are being updated.

comfort room,breakfast tasty Dinner lovely apart from Antler salad a bit sparse with ingredients mostly lettuce leaves & no olives.
Constructive advice, rooms could do with doing away with the many cushions on bed, although they look nice. The only place to put them at night when going to bed, is on the floor, not an ideal place, & it would have been nice to use the pool, although it is being refurbished.

The location is very nice, I didn’t get to explore the surrounding area as I stayed here as a wedding guest, but it did look very scenic from what I did see.
The venue as a whole was very nice, the function room and the bar and restaurant areas were very tastefully decorated and welcoming.
We had a great time at the wedding.
The Breakfast In Prego Restaurant was very good.
Solo occupancy of the room is very poor value, it’s really sad to see in 2026 we are still subjected to the hefty solo tax. The room was very small, very dark and rather cold, in August. Poor bathroom facilities, especially the tiny sink which had an enormous waterfall tap that soaked the floor every time I washed my hands.
I specifically booked a hideaway room as I wanted a quiet space away from the main function room, but what I got was an upper room facing the Prego Restaurant and terrace, where many guests had congregated enjoying their evening until late in the night, so yes, it was noisy. It was dark in the room I struggled to get ready in it and spent the minimum amount of time in there.
I had family members staying in one of the 3 bedroom cottages, they were also disappointed in the accommodation, with only one cold shower between 4 adults and kitchen facilities so poor that a lot of food was thrown out because they tried to prepare a breakfast using the main oven and hob and neither were fit for purpose.

The radiator in the bathroom was not adjustable so was on very hot all the time. This was early September and they had just gone into winter settings but the weather was still very warm, this was a waste of energy as we had the window open all the time. No designated lounge area to sit just the large bar which was quite dimly lit.
From the minute we walked through the doors at the Derwent Manor Hotel, to when we left, the whole experience was excellent. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff at check-in who were more than happy to help and assist with our requirements. The room was beautiful, clean and came with a complimentary bottle of wine (which my wife tells me was gorgeous!). It also had some amazing views of the surrounding countryside with the viaduct in the distance - although due to the location of the hotel it would be hard not to have a decent view. We were booked into the Terrace bar for evening meal and the food was as good as the room. Again all the staff were extremely helpful and happy to meet our requests. The food we had was lovely. We booked this particular hotel so I could compete in the Great North Run (30 min drive away) so in the morning I was keen to get to breakfast. Because there were a number of runners stopping here the time was brought forward to 7am from the usual 8am and the options were more than enough to fuel up!! Buffet style, help yourself with freshly made porridge on request at no extra charge. Overall we couldn't fault the hotel and the price was extremely reasonable. It reminded us what a lovely part of the country this is and we will be looking to return for a longer weekend in the future. Thanks to all the staff - you made our stay amazing and we will definitely be recommending the Derwnet to our friends as a place to stay.
I don't think there was anything which we particularly disliked.....not being able to stay longer!?!?
