The room was bright and a reasonable size and had everything you would need for a short stay. Nice crisp duvet cover and lovely towels. The staff were friendly and the evening meals were excellent. Also plenty of parking and ideally located for a visit to the Abbey which was the reason for our visit.
The mattress was showing signs of age and use and I would have liked more padding between me and the springs. The water system made some weird noises at times. It wasn't a problem for us but could possibly for occupants of the neighbouring room. We were surprised on receiving our bill for the evening meal to find a 12.5% service charge as there was no mention of this on the menu, nor were we told when ordering.
We have stayed at the Chequers several times in the last six years and enjoyed every visit. The room was slightly smaller than others we have stayed in here, but had all the character and features of the others. The bed was comfortable, the en-suite compact but well laid out and fitted with a user-friendly shower and ample space for toiletries etc. The view towards Lake Field is one of the nicest in Battle and the secondary glazing kept road noise to a minimum. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and the breakfast was magnificent.
The room might benefit from a second bedside cabinet, subject to space.
We liked the central location, car parking, and the historical character of the pub and Inn, the food was professionally cooked. Bed very comfortable, one of our bathrooms was great. All very clean and high quality bedding.
We were struggling to open a window as it was very hot due to extraordinarily high, May temperatures. The rooms would benefit from blackout blinds rather than Venetian blinds because the summer light is very powerful and woke us up very early. You need to be aware that the central location gives rise to more traffic noise.
We loved the history and location of Chequers Inn. Very friendly staff. The room was quaint, bright and nicely decorated.
Just a 5 min stroll to the beautiful Battle Abbey, village High Street and pubs/restaurants. We had a lovely cooked breakfast at the Chequers.
Ability to store bags. Dinner was nice. Good bathroom.
I could feel the bed springs.
Next room occupant having loud calls/on line meetings till quite late
Lovely polite helpful staff
Very hot night and fan in room could do with replacing
Beautiful old pub stay (oldest in Battle!), room was comfortable, quiet, great value, perfect location, clean and friendly helpful staff!
Nothing negative.
Gorgeous old Inn right at the top of hill of Battle old town, comfy bed, reasonable price, lovely helpful and friendly staff and the food was excellent.
We had issues with the shower which was annoying but very quickly resolved
Food was great
Staff very friendly and helpful
Ample parking
Nice comfortable rooms and beds
Close to Battle abbey and very quaint.
All good
The Chequers is fantastic. It is an historic property in an excellent location filled with character, great atmosphere and lots of welcoming and friendly people and that includes both Staff and Locals alike.
From the moment I arrived to the moment I left I have been thoroughly spoilt with genuine politeness, respect, excellent customer service and friendliness from the whole team there. Also the food was excellent both at dinner and breakfast - I highly recommend the poached eggs and avocado on toast - absolutely divine. Very importantly as a single female travelling alone I felt incredibly safe. I truly felt like a valued guest but also a friend - a huge Thank you to everyone there - I look forward to returning.
I cannot find anything I didn’t like. This building is old and historic so all that history makes it what it is and I love the fact that the owners have left it all in keeping with its historic story.
The restaurant was cute and the food was good. Location was practical and staff friendly!
Some small details. The beds were very very soft. Some parts of the bathroom weren’t very clean and the carpet had a massive stein that screamed “puke” and even though it was clean I’m sure the stein could have been removed better. Even if it was something else by the shape and location it looked like it. Also there was a shouting person outside our room that came out of the restaurant pissed and nobody seemed to tell him to shut up for a while. Apart from that all good!
Its historic character and central location.
Room immaculately clean and professionally finished.
Parking arrangements.
No concerns.
The chequers is a old fashioned pub with quirkiness the room was perfect and only a couple of minutes walk to the town we will stay again
