Beautiful building, lovely bar and restaurant, good leisure facilities. Helpful staff.
When we arrived, the swimming pool was closed. The staff did not know how long it would be closed for. It remained closed for the whole of our second day too. Our room was quite basic, which did not fit with the style of the building.
room comfortable
breakfast very good
dinner - n/a
the sauna and spa facilities were tired. struggled to find a key that locked in the men's changing room (wife said they were fine in the female change rooms) . thought i'd cut my foot on an upturned piece of plastic on the poolside.
the property is in the middle of nowhere, but handy for us, who visited the Darlington FC across the road.
If I'd made a specific trip for the spa, i'd have been disappointed.
Overall - I was happy.
Location was great, breakfast was fine.
Lack of facilities due to maintenance - had we been told prior to booking, we probably would have booked elsewhere. Bar service not great, waited at the bar for quite a while, not even acknowledged when the staff was serving. Then walked off from behind the bar without serving us.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The grounds were stunning.
Breakfast was fab, as was evening meal.
The leisure facilities were also great.
No complaints
Location
Pillows and beds really uncomfortable, shower over bath not good if you are tall as your head was touching the ceiling no fridge in room
Staff were great, especially breakfast. Slept comfortably and the breakfast was nice.
Grey paint in corridors, grey decor in room, view of bins from bedroom. Tiny bathroom. Overall, it's jaded, tired and needs a refurbishment. It would have been nice on our first (and now only) stay, to be offered a nicer room.
Comfirtable beds and nice Taylors coffee bags in the bedroom.
Nothing
Beautiful building. We were there for a wedding so it was beautiful for that. Bed was amazingly comfy. Gorgeous bathroom. Furniture in room was lovely.
Reception staff and one of the ladies who was working breakfast on the Sunday morning were amazing, really helpful and approachable.
Free bits in the room were lovely, really nice quality and a good touch.
When turning the radiators off, they didn’t actually go off. Making my bedroom very warm. There was little bits of rubbish in the drawers when I arrived.
Room service breakfast was late by around 45 minutes on my friends wedding day morning, we were bridesmaids so this was quite stressful for us during getting ready. My door was open when I arrived also.
It felt like the property prioritised the footballers that were staying there the same night more than us. Also the 2nd night there was lots of children running around.
Could be a fridge or ice facilities for the price paid, small mini fridge would have been a great addition.
Staff went above and beyond and met my expectations, very friendly and chatty and professional 👌
The room was clean and tidy and spa facilities were lovely, the pool was a little on the small side but everything else made up for that. Many thanks.

It is a very large property so not great if you have mobility issues but apart from that, the staff were incredibly friendly, bed was comfortable, food was great in the restaurant. Walked to the leisure facility to look at the pool but nobody was there and it felt bit lifeless but could be better during the day. Seemed a very clean and well looked after period property, perfect for an overnight stay and not far too from the station.
