Characterful hotel with great facilities in the middle of town. Excellent restaurant.
Taps in bathroom leaked, and shower tap came off in my hand. Pillows very hard for me. Shame the breakfast bread tasted like supermarket bread, unlike our bread at dinner which was absolutely delicious and home made.
Great staff, lovely decor. Combination of historical building with modern rooms.
Breakfast was below average. Coffee was awful.
Excellent restoration into a comfortable and characterful hotel. Public areas were stylish and well furnished. The garden area is a gem. The restaurant is excellent and currently probably the best in Stratford; Sunday lunch is particularly recommended. Staff service throughout is exceptional.
Just one dislike; the unimaginative bread selection at breakfast. Given the rise of independent bakeries across Britain this is almost unforgivable in what is otherwise a splendid hotel.
It was conveniently located and had parking. The breakfast was very good.
I had no complaints except the beams in the bedroom were very low but the building is several years old so low beams must be accepted.
Situated in one of the oldest buildings in Stratford and opposite the remains of Shakespeare’s last house in Stratford, New Hall, and within sight of the school he briefly attended, his hotel has a beautiful aged bar and entrance from the street and you can lean into Strarfird’s history. From the rear and the car park all us contemporary and sleek. We opted for two ‘contemporary rooms’, which were spacious and beautifully appointed. Staff were helpful and check in was easy, with car parking rates very competitive for the area. We were staying primarily for the theatre which is literally a block away. I would recommend the bar for a pre or post show drink in fabulous surroundings.
We opted for a late-ish breakfast at 9.15 and were advised by reception that 9.00 (our preferred time) was very busy-he wasn’t wrong! Breakfast was a little chaotic but the hotel offers everything you could need. We were shown to a huge table that made conversation almost impossible. This is rather picky and is the only slightly negative aspect to our stay.
Historic atmosphere . Lovely garden
Nothing
Location: close to theatre and river and has large car park. Oposite beautiful garden
Grateful for aircon unit in heatwave but very noisy all night, like being on cross channel ferry. Floor sloped in my room - fair enough the building is 16th century but bedside table also sloped and a glass of water slowly slid off- as did anything else put there. Could be wedged with an unobtrusive beer mat. Bathroom clean, modern, great shower
The location is perfect and the quality of the accomodation is very high.
Light bulbs failed throughout the room so dark and made the expensive chandelier pointless, as it was bulbless.
Excellent restaurant.
Room small and therefore poor value for money.
Service poor in Restaurant (insufficient staff as opposed to quality of individual staff members)
Location and parking very convenient, rooms lovely, bathroom spotless.
Fridge not cold enough - no milk for morning coffee in the room. Bit of street noise - can’t be helped. The lights were really complicated, couldn’t work them out.
Lovely garden full of roses and herbs, we ate out both evenings in the garden. Great central location. Friendly staff.
Long queue when checking in. Took some time to work out how the lights worked! A dial in the bathroom was confusing, I had to ask what it was for and it was part of a speaker system.
Good size room, large comfy bed, air con was a real bonus given the unexpected end of May heatwave. The whole place looks recently decorated so everything feels fresh, nice gsrden area too out the back. Staff were great, and plenty of parking on site with a pay machine by reception (max £15 for 24 hrs).
It’s probably the most wonderful hotel in the whole city of Stratford upon Avon. At the front it’s a historical Tudor building, and the back it’s a modern establishment with a beautiful garden. It has all facilities of a modern hotel with them wonderful maze of historic spaces. Our room was in the ancient part of the hotel. One thing that you need to consider is that it’s not accessible, there are steep stairs going up and the room is quite small. However, it is beautifully furnished and it has a view of Shakespeare’s new place from the window. So if you can try to sleep in the old part if you’re a Shakespeare and history lover.
