Exceptional and great value for money.
Pros:

The hotel was clean and cozy, really great value for money and a great location with it being next to the train station. The staff were friendly and welcoming, we received a complimentary drink for my partner’s birthday which made our experience even more special. The spa facilities were amazing especially with them being included with the price. Definitely staying again😊

Not what we expected
Pros:

The staff were nice enough. They swapped our room as it wasn't fit for purpose and definitely not worth the price I paid. One of the staff carried our big suitcase as we had 3 flights of stairs in the end.

Cons:

When we arrived and went to go to our room, our key card didn't work, so my partner had to go down and the girl changed it. When we eventually entered our room it was tiny! A very small bed to share with not much room at all to move around in. No idea where we were meant to keep our 2 cases. The wardrobe was only half the size as the fridge took up the whole of the left hand side. It was also very dark in there, even with the lights on. No idea how you're supposed to get 2 adults in there with all your stuff and get ready in that tiny little room. I also paid near £600 for that I may add. So not a good start at all. I phoned down to reception as we weren't happy with the room at all. They ended up swapping us to a twin room. Still wasn't the nicest of rooms compared to how much it was and didn't match any of the pics! But at least we had more room to get ready. The lighting situation in the rooms though are too dull, its hard to see and to do your makeup wasn't good whilst getting ready. The plug sockets weren't the best either. There's also no light in there over by the wardrobe, you have to have the bathroom door open with the light on and even then it's not very bright. Our Friend told us about the room they were in with a king-size bed and it was a massive gorgeous room, and they paid just over £400 for it. So that annoyed us when we found out that they paid less than us and got a nicer room. We normally do a video and photos of our hotel rooms as they're normally gorgeous, but we never took 1 pic this time. Wasn't nice enough to take any.

A great hotel
Pros:

The room was spotlessly clean and quiet, there was a fabulous choice at breakfast and the reception staff were friendly and helpful

Cons:

The mattress was a bit hard we're used to a memory foam mattress and pillows

Pros:

Gostamos de tudo! O hotel é lindíssimo, a poucos passos da estação de trem, nosso quarto era muito bom, espaçoso e banheiro bom também.
O café da manhã era maravilhoso, com várias opções, inclusive, claro, o café inglês!
Funcionários educados e atenciosos. Sem dúvida esse foi o melhor hotel de toda a viagem!

A classic old hotel that I’d definitely stay at again and recommend to friends.
Pros:

In September 2026 we did a 3 week trip travelling around the UK and stayed in 5 separate hotels, and The Milner in York was by far our fave of those that we stayed in.
It is a beautiful old building right next to the railway station. I was worried that it might be noisy as a result, but our room was facing the other way and was very quiet. The view was lovely, looking out across the garden with York Minster in the distance.
We enjoyed dinner several times in the hotel, a very generous afternoon tea, and had drinks in the bar too. The staff were all gracious.

Cons:

The only thing that went wrong in our 4 night stay was that our room wasn't cleaned one day, despite asking for it to be cleaned as we left the hotel that day.
