The Alvear Palace Hotel, Buenos Aires is a beautiful hotel that is a reminder of the elequent older european hotels of the turn of the century. You open the front doors to a large high ceilinged lobby with several sitting areas. The decor is sohisticated and yet comfortable. There is a separate lobby bar off the lobby. Our room was exquisite and rather spacious. We were upgraded to a suite which was an unexpected bonus. Breakfast was exceptional. The hotel is expensive so if you are looking for a bargain there are many other hotels in Buenos Aires that are lovely.
My adult son and I stayed one night at the end of our two week trip to Argentina. This hotel was a splurge. We thought it was worth it. Very nice room. Good spa. Enjoyed the rooftop bar.
It's a well-preserved historic building, location is good, and room was nice and comfortable, for one night (it was my pre-cruise hotel). But the hotel is big and busy, service was fine but not great, they have the smallest hotel pool I've ever used, and the gilt and "elegance" felt overdone to me. Also, the rooftop bar is crowded, with very limited menu and there is no other outdoor space. Just not as nice as the Palacio Duhau-Park Hyatt a couple blocks away (see review).
High quality room and impeccable, professional service. Flexible approach to guest needs is a big plus. Excellent location.
This is an elegant upscale hotel in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires within walking distance of the famous and interesting cemetery and other important sites. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay here. The Sunday buffet is quite special. We had an excellent dinner at the Alvear Grill as well. The staff was uniformly friendly, helpful and warm.
I feel compelled to make one complaint: we asked for a coffee maker in the room (this should have been standard) and were astonished to find out that we were charged nearly 5$ for each individual coffee pod for the machine, with daily refills. We were not told in advance about this charge and certainly would have found an alternative way to obtain morning coffee had we known. The manager did not respond to my email disputing these charges.
Great room and fantastic location
A beautifully elegant hotel with old world charm. Walking in you're welcomed by the charm and elegance. Our accommodations were very comfortable and well appointed. The service was 5 star. Sadly we were only here for 1 day, so we didn't have time to try the roof top pool which is beautiful or the after tea lounge.
When we return to Buenos Aires, this will be our first choose hotel.
Amazing rooftop bar. Book in advance - it's a very popular place to listen to good tunes, have a nice drink, and watch the sun set. Great staff too. I liked it so much I came her two nights in a row :)
Great service and lovely rooms. Breakfast was excellent.
This is a beautiful hotel with a great location and mainly wonderful staff. I say mainly wonderful because door men just stand around in groups looking at their phones rather than opening doors and greeting guests. This is a real problem at this level of hotel. I have sent a note to the hotel so that they can address this problem.
Top tier hotel in nice area for sightseeing, shopping and dining.
Great service. Decor superlative. Accommodations highest quality.
Sensational hotel, representative of Buenos Aries' golden times. Rooms and public spaces are truly gorgeous. Not in the slightest bit fusty. Pure elegance and for us THE place to stay for a memorable experience. Thank you to the team for making our stay so special.
Beautiful old hotel, rooms need renovation, nice service, cleanliness of the rooms lacks, there is no consistency and sometimes you forget to clean the room. The gym is old and some of the machines are not working. Breakfast is varied but you have to pay for eggs and extras. But the thing that the hotel lacks the most is an open pool. The pool in the hotel is small and indoor
Overall a beautiful historic hotel and you have to take into account the above limitations
Beautiful gem, well-located in Buenas Aeries. Luxurious bedding and bath products. Wonderful place to rest after a long trip. I highly recommend.
Elegant hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful lobby and public areas. Rooms has everything you need and very comfortable. Great slippers.
This hotel is stunning, the location is excellent, and the staff is wonderful. We couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. We will definitely stay there again.
We spent one night at the Alvear Palace in January due to a messed up itinerary (forrest fires near the lodge in Patagonia where we were reserved).
The hotel is a beautiful, classic property with a long history.
Very nice desk clerk gave us our room at noon after hearing of our travails with our fly-fishing trip. The hotel is a bit “stuffy” but overall very nice. They have a lot of "rules" as to dress codes but the rules are largely ignored.
GREAT, huge, room with a spa bathtub with TV (my husband loved sitting in the tub with the TV so he could catch up on some sports). They thought of everything – dimming lights in the bathroom, 110 V outlets all over, lovely ripe fruit to greet each new guest.
Very comfortable bed, a/c, shower....
However the food both in the bar area and the breakfast buffet was VERY bland. The weekend breakfast buffet is much acclaimed but the food is just not good. It's beautiful to look at but very lacking in flavor. Croissants, bacon, coffee….nothing was nearly as good as at Fierro Hotel. An early dinner (burger, salad and fries) was also tasteless.
Overall, the hotel was one of those special stays that, even though it's fun and luxurious,, it's not worth spending so much money to stay there.
Amazing place! Will def be back! The food, ambiance, amenities, jr suite and the staff. Also, delicious breakfast buffet.
The check-in was uneventful and quick. The representatives at the front desk were amicable.
If pomp and circumstances are your thing, then this is for you as long as you do not mind dated furniture and musty rooms. The room I had may once have been a thing of opulence 10-15 years ago, but today, the room is dated and musty. I am not sure, but I had this pesky feeling that I was deliberately GIVEN a room that was older.
CONS:
The carpets need to be removed or replaced. You can actually see the fade in the carpets and how worn it is.
The chair to the desk has outlived its usefulness as it is not safe or comfortable to sit in.
The plumbing in the room I had, also has an issue. You cannot turn on the water in the sink without a loud gurgling sound coming from the drain near the toilet. And I mean loud.
I suspect parts of the hotel is being renovated as work was occurring under my room, and unfortunately, I was the recipient of an incessant knocking noise during a particular day of my stay.
Inattentive and rude bell attendants (outside)
Musty curtains in room
Bird fecal matter on window sill which is sickening to look at when the blinds are pulled back for natural light.
PROS:
Great location
Large rooms
Complimentary daily water
Complimentary fruit bowl upon check-in
Linen is of great quality and the beds provide an excellent sleep
Rooms are cleaned and stocked well
Working elevators which are large
This was a lovely hotel with all the amenities we would need at a hotel. In addition, it was well located next to a park, shopping and anything else we might need for exploring Buenos Aires. The hotel had a fantastic restaurant with a beautiful. Breakfast buffet, a fantastic bar with a good wine selection and a rooftop restaurant for dining and enjoying the sunset. Fitness room was quite big and very clean. I would recommend this hotel.
