Amazing rooftop bar. Book in advance - it's a very popular place to listen to good tunes, have a nice drink, and watch the sun set. Great staff too. I liked it so much I came her two nights in a row :)
Great service and lovely rooms. Breakfast was excellent.
This is a beautiful hotel with a great location and mainly wonderful staff. I say mainly wonderful because door men just stand around in groups looking at their phones rather than opening doors and greeting guests. This is a real problem at this level of hotel. I have sent a note to the hotel so that they can address this problem.
Top tier hotel in nice area for sightseeing, shopping and dining.
Great service. Decor superlative. Accommodations highest quality.
Sensational hotel, representative of Buenos Aries' golden times. Rooms and public spaces are truly gorgeous. Not in the slightest bit fusty. Pure elegance and for us THE place to stay for a memorable experience. Thank you to the team for making our stay so special.
Beautiful old hotel, rooms need renovation, nice service, cleanliness of the rooms lacks, there is no consistency and sometimes you forget to clean the room. The gym is old and some of the machines are not working. Breakfast is varied but you have to pay for eggs and extras. But the thing that the hotel lacks the most is an open pool. The pool in the hotel is small and indoor
Overall a beautiful historic hotel and you have to take into account the above limitations
Beautiful gem, well-located in Buenas Aeries. Luxurious bedding and bath products. Wonderful place to rest after a long trip. I highly recommend.
Elegant hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful lobby and public areas. Rooms has everything you need and very comfortable. Great slippers.
This hotel is stunning, the location is excellent, and the staff is wonderful. We couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. We will definitely stay there again.
We spent one night at the Alvear Palace in January due to a messed up itinerary (forrest fires near the lodge in Patagonia where we were reserved).
The hotel is a beautiful, classic property with a long history.
Very nice desk clerk gave us our room at noon after hearing of our travails with our fly-fishing trip. The hotel is a bit “stuffy” but overall very nice. They have a lot of "rules" as to dress codes but the rules are largely ignored.
GREAT, huge, room with a spa bathtub with TV (my husband loved sitting in the tub with the TV so he could catch up on some sports). They thought of everything – dimming lights in the bathroom, 110 V outlets all over, lovely ripe fruit to greet each new guest.
Very comfortable bed, a/c, shower....
However the food both in the bar area and the breakfast buffet was VERY bland. The weekend breakfast buffet is much acclaimed but the food is just not good. It's beautiful to look at but very lacking in flavor. Croissants, bacon, coffee….nothing was nearly as good as at Fierro Hotel. An early dinner (burger, salad and fries) was also tasteless.
Overall, the hotel was one of those special stays that, even though it's fun and luxurious,, it's not worth spending so much money to stay there.
Amazing place! Will def be back! The food, ambiance, amenities, jr suite and the staff. Also, delicious breakfast buffet.
The check-in was uneventful and quick. The representatives at the front desk were amicable.
If pomp and circumstances are your thing, then this is for you as long as you do not mind dated furniture and musty rooms. The room I had may once have been a thing of opulence 10-15 years ago, but today, the room is dated and musty. I am not sure, but I had this pesky feeling that I was deliberately GIVEN a room that was older.
CONS:
The carpets need to be removed or replaced. You can actually see the fade in the carpets and how worn it is.
The chair to the desk has outlived its usefulness as it is not safe or comfortable to sit in.
The plumbing in the room I had, also has an issue. You cannot turn on the water in the sink without a loud gurgling sound coming from the drain near the toilet. And I mean loud.
I suspect parts of the hotel is being renovated as work was occurring under my room, and unfortunately, I was the recipient of an incessant knocking noise during a particular day of my stay.
Inattentive and rude bell attendants (outside)
Musty curtains in room
Bird fecal matter on window sill which is sickening to look at when the blinds are pulled back for natural light.
PROS:
Great location
Large rooms
Complimentary daily water
Complimentary fruit bowl upon check-in
Linen is of great quality and the beds provide an excellent sleep
Rooms are cleaned and stocked well
Working elevators which are large
This was a lovely hotel with all the amenities we would need at a hotel. In addition, it was well located next to a park, shopping and anything else we might need for exploring Buenos Aires. The hotel had a fantastic restaurant with a beautiful. Breakfast buffet, a fantastic bar with a good wine selection and a rooftop restaurant for dining and enjoying the sunset. Fitness room was quite big and very clean. I would recommend this hotel.
We chose the Alvear Palace Hotel to spend the night before our return flight back to Alaska the next day.
We arrived late, and their Alvear Grill accommodated our vegan preferences. The Eggplant dish and the mushroom risotto were delicious. The hotel was conveniently located so that we were able walk around town the next morning.
The spa staff were amazing. We had a much-needed massage.
The late check-out feature with Amex was much needed as well.
The hotel has old world, charm, but modern world conveniences. And is very accommodating to people with disabilities.
One of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Classic old world ambience. exceptional staff. Our room was ready when we arrived at 8 AM! Beautiful dining room with excellent buffet breakfast. Great location. It’s expensive, but worth it.
fabulous location, decor, service, food. no issues. upgraded w our amex fine hotels package and got to check-in early. great grocery around the corner for all of your needs (Disco).
This hotel has that old-world elegance, great service, and a location walkable to restaurants and attractions.
The bed was neither comfortable or luxury. It was a spring mattress without a pillowtop, and it was old. The bed was also not a modern platform bed; it felt dated and old. The rooms were nice, and we had a suite with two bathrooms. The showers were on the smaller side and single sink, so it was great to have two. The carpet in the room was dirty, and I hate carpet in hotel rooms; it feels unclean. There was no minibar, snacks, or coffee maker.
The hotel has great spaces, but they weren't all operational; the rooftop is only open on certain days, as well as the grill. The hotel was full; this is not customer-centric. What really disappointed me was that on new year,s the bar was closed and so was the rooftop. We climbed out there to see the fireworks, but what a missed opportunity to use the space.
They need to update the rooms and beds. When the hotel is full, all the spaces should be open and staffed.
Excellent top class hotel. Beautiful decor lots of marble and polished brass. Very nice restaurant but closed Sunday and Monday. Good breakfast buffet. Spacious comfortable bedroom. Only possible drawback was that there were only two or three restaurants within easy walking distance but taxis are cheap so this might not be a problem.
After a long New Year’s Day layover in Miami, we flew overnight to Buenos Aires and arrived early the next morning. When we checked into the beautiful Alvear Palace Hotel, I realized my handbag was missing from my carry-on luggage, where I always keep it. Inside were my credit cards, Global Entry card, driver’s license, and health insurance cards. I was completely distressed.
We went straight to the concierge desk and were fortunate to meet Esperanza. From the moment we explained the situation, she took charge calmly and confidently. She immediately began calling American Airlines and repeatedly contacting the Buenos Aires airport lost-and-found department. Despite many unanswered calls, Esperanza never gave up and patiently kept trying.
Finally, a security officer answered. Esperanza clearly presented my case and stayed on the phone while he checked thoroughly. Soon came the wonderful news: my purse had been found.
Esperanza’s compassion and determination were extraordinary. When she told me, I burst into tears. She quickly brought me cold water, held my hands, and looked me in the eye, assuring me she would never stop trying.
She arranged transportation, coordinated retrieval at the airport, and ensured our safe return to the hotel.
We’ve lived overseas and traveled the world for years - you never know what might happen and having concierges like Esperanza that work to solve guests’ most challenging issues is a big plus! And the rooms, food and surrounding neighborhood are great to boot. Stay here!
