Beautifully decorated property with amazing views and location
The common areas were very nice, great views
The staff were terrible . The receptionist was incompetent and the bar staff rude
My now husband and I had our wedding reception at HdV Avon Gorge on May 24th and I cannot compliment it enough.
The food was excellent. I was concerned about it having a mass catered feel and taste but the allowance to pre order avoided that and the quality on the day was well above standard and we received many compliments.
Most of all, however, I would like to thank the staff. From enquiry stage through to me leaving the dance floor carrying my shoes at midnight, the staff could not do enough and made the day totally seamless. A special shout out to Gabby who took over the responsibility of ensuring the reception ran smoothly on the day and did an excellent job.
Our key thankyou is to India who is a rare find, particularly in such a challenging role. India is relatively new to her role and if our experience is anything to go by, she will be in a regional or national position before long. When our initial co-ordinator left the business, I was concerned as we had built a relationship with her, however, I am now glad she did! India took time to understand us a couple, what we wanted and how we wanted our guests to feel.
No meeting time was ever awkward for her and she stayed on top of everything, knowing our schedule and requirements by heart by the time the day came around. She filled us with such confidence with the planning and then carried that through to the day which she executed without fault...... we cannot praise her highly enough.
Thank you for a wonderful experience that we will never forget.
A solid hotel in a great location which was (in our view) totally spoilt by The White Lion pub!
We didn't realise quite how much having a pub within the hotel (but accessible from the street) would impact our stay: it was, unfortunately for us as it turned out, a sunny weekend and most of Bristol seemed to want to sit on the hotel's terrace (which is part of the pub, or perhaps vice versa, it was unclear). We thought it would be lovely to sit outside for lunch, but the reality was a crowded, glorified beer garden. V few of the tables had umbrellas (inevitably ours was one of the unlucky many), the "menu" was inaccessible (staff were not taking orders at the table and the QR code thingie wasn't working, so we had to go back inside to order) and pretty dreadful (strictly burgers or pizzas). Such a shame as the main hotel staff were delightful and the breakfast was great (although an 8am start did seem a bit late, even for a weekend).
Gym and pool
The hot food breakfast was nearly all gone at 7am. When I asked the staff if they would bring out more hot food options i was told theyve run out. I ended up having a yoghurt pot and left
Amazing location, fantastic room and super comfortable bed.
Great location and have stayed a few times before, hence booking again.
I took their offer of an upgrade but the room we had was the worst I have stayed in at that hotel. It was sold as a 'gorge view room' - I expected to be able to see the bridge as I have done from other rooms - but this was more of a side view room, too far removed from the rest of the hotel. If I stayed again I would check exactly where the room is located first.
Also took up the offer of dinner included and made a reservation at check in. There was no record of this when we arrived at the restaurant. The restaurant was extremely quiet at first and then a huge party of people seemed to converge onto one small round table next to us. Waitress apologised but I have no idea why these pepole werent seated in another area where there was more space.
Then went to the hotel bar which has very busy but had limited otions on beer. Again disappointing.
Finally the bed and pillows were too firm.
