A curious surge of praise amidst a troubling reality
Pros:

My husband recently shared a detailed account of our stay here. Interestingly, his observations were immediately followed by a remarkable influx of exceptionally brief, high-scoring reviews. While some may find this sudden wave of enthusiasm reassuring, our direct experience tells a far more concerning story.
Excellence is lived, not merely listed.
What we encountered was a disconnect between the "Leading Hotels of the World" branding and the basic duty of care on-site:
• Atmospheric Distress: Guests on our floor were subjected to intense paint and solvent fumes overnight while active maintenance was carried out. This was not a minor scent; it was a physical irritant causing eyes to water. Even a basic budget property understands that you do not perform heavy painting on an occupied guest floor. At €400 per night, it is a staggering oversight.
• Technical Indifference: Our AC failed to cool below 22°C. Despite reporting it multiple times and a technician visiting, the issue remained unresolved. More critically, our direct outreach to the Management was met with absolute silence. No follow-up, no apology, no alternative offered.
• The Amenity Gap: Charging a premium for a wellness area with 7 PM closing times, no towels, and visible maintenance issues (loose fixtures) feels like a checklist item rather than a guest benefit.
The frontline staff and the phenomenal breakfast are the only reasons this house maintains a veneer of quality. However, when a hotel’s response to documented grievances is silence followed by a sudden spike in generic positive feedback online, it suggests a priority shift away from the actual guest experience.
Verdict: We know the Anantara standard from our travels in Asia. This European iteration, however, currently delivers a construction-site experience at a premium price. Readers would be well-advised to look past the recent surge of brief ratings and focus on the substantive, detailed accounts of those who have actually resided here.

Disappointed!
Pros:

We were looking forward to staying in Nice for a few days and picked this hotel because it had been completely renovated in recent years and was in a great location. The first disappointed was the room which was described as a junior suite with terrace on the top floor. The room was really small and in fact a double room which they market on their website as a junior suite. The roof top restaurant was overloaded with tables and overcrowded with hotel guests for breakfast. We were so disappointed after the first night, that we checked out and left Nice early. Not really like the 5 star hotels we are used to.

A Little Gem!!
Pros:

Situated just off the Promenade des Anglais, this property is an amazing temporary base camp for your adventures in the French Riviera. The hotel entrance is rather nondescript and sits among multiple high end store fronts.

This was our last stop in France. We were welcomed warmly by the hotel staff. They were genuinely appreciative of our business and made sure we were comfortable.

Our rooms were tastefully decorated and were just the right size. We had ocean view balconies overlooking the adjacent park. We loved the outdoor area.

The rooms were spotless and furnishings were very nice. The beds were comfortable and the linens were very high end.

The hotel offered a breakfast buffet every morning. The food was delicious and plentiful. There was a nice mix of general continental cuisine and local specialties. The staff was very attentive. Elina was particularly attentive and made our kids feel welcome.

The location of this property is ideal. Situated between the old and new sections of Nice and steps from the waterfront, this feels like the best place to be for a traveler.

We fell in love with the south of France on this trip and will likely return to this amazing property.

Profit over guests' health – a "Leading Hotel of the World" that has lost the plot
Pros:

Let me start where credit is due: the staff is genuinely warm and goes out of its way. Breakfast is phenomenal – easily among the best I've had at this price point. The location is excellent, the renovation tasteful. These people deserve better management.

Now for the rest.

Paint fumes on an occupied floor.
Half the floor was being repainted while guests were sleeping there. The smell was not a minor inconvenience – it was nauseating. Eyes watering, eyes burning, the kind of air quality that makes you look for a window or, frankly, a gas mask. I have stayed in Ibis properties that would not pull this. A budget chain understands that you do not expose paying guests to solvent fumes overnight. Apparently, the concept of a "Leading Hotel of the World" does not extend to that particular standard. At €400 per night, one expects not to feel like an uninvited guest on a construction site.

Air conditioning: the art of not following through.
The unit would not cool below 22°C. I reported it. A technician came, checked everything, left – and nothing changed. I reported it again. Nothing. No room change was offered, though I asked for it. No lightweight summer duvet was offered. The matter was simply dropped. Mistakes happen in any hotel; what defines a property is how it responds when a guest flags a problem. Here, the answer was: it doesn't.

The sauna: a checklist item, not an amenity.
Charged separately at €25. No towels provided. The smell was unpleasant. A bracket was loose enough to make one genuinely consider the structural implications of sitting down. Operating hours until 7pm – useful for guests who check in at 3pm and have no evening plans, presumably. The steam room did not reach a meaningful temperature. This is not a wellness facility; it is the idea of one.

I will spare the smaller details.

The bottom line: none of what is described above is acceptable at any price point. Exposing guests to paint fumes overnight is not a premium-versus-budget question — it is a question of basic duty of care. Reporting a fault, watching a technician leave without fixing it, and then being ignored on the follow-up: that is not bad luck, that is a management culture. This hotel charges for excellence and delivers indifference. The staff deserves better. So do the guests.

Boutique hotel in a prime spot
Pros:

Recommended by my fellow traveller who had stayed before and very happy we chose this hotel. Very understated and classy and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. When I reported a fault it was fixed within minutes!
We didn’t eat in the hotel other than breakfast which was a delicious and extensive choice of continental and cooked breakfasts; and a couple of cheeky cocktails one evening in the bar with views overlooking the old town.
The central location was in the middle of a number of designer shops and we walked everywhere. Felt safe as two women walking back at night!
Would definitely recommend a stay here!

Anatara Plaza Nice France
Pros:

The hotel itself is stunning, especially the rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking the Mediterranean. Every member of the team — from Food & Beverage, to the Concierge team, to the Front Desk — delivered exceptional service that truly elevated our stay.
I loved the experience so much that when my husband and I were traveling from Monaco to Tunis, Africa, we actually shortened our stay in Africa so we could return to Anantara Plaza Nice on Sunday, March 1st for breakfast. I wanted my husband to experience it for himself.
During our return visit, I told him all about the Louis Roederer tasting, and this time we had the pleasure of meeting Alex, who created the entire champagne tasting experience in that beautiful room.
I have already recommended Anantara Plaza Nice to an industry friend visiting Nice and Monaco, and I’ll continue to do so. It’s truly a must-visit hotel that delivers an unforgettable experience.
Thank you to the entire Anantara team for making our visit so memorable.

We had a wonderful stay at the Anantara Plaza Nice, and one of the highlights each morning was the breakfast service thanks to Eliot.

He was incredibly kind, attentive, and always made sure everything was perfect for our family. His warm attitude and professionalism made us feel genuinely welcome every morning.

Small details like great service make a big difference, and Eliot truly represents the level of hospitality you hope to find in a great hotel.

Thank you, Eliot, for taking such good care of us during our stay in Nice.
