La Mariposa Hotel

The hotel was beautiful with amazing views from our room and all the common spaces. The kids loved the infinity pool which overlooked Manuel Antonio and the coast. It was fun to walk around and see monkeys, lizards and sloths!

The hotel was excellent, some of the best views I have ever seen. It was so nice to have breakfast included in our stay. You could fuel up, before your tours ( which the front desk will help you get set up) and activities for the day. The front desk staff I consider above and beyond. We had some issues with our GPS and they were able to order parts right to the hotel! Actually all the staff were great from security, bell boy, pool attendants and food servers. I enjoyed the art gallery on site, I bought some beautiful pieces for home. Everything you need on site, retaurants, pools, a house slough named Lucy and monkeys in the trees. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at La Mariposa Hotel. The staff was so kind and helpful, the grounds and rooms were well kept and very clean, the views absolutely spectacular, and being immersed and close to the town was wonderful. We loved *not* being in a secured resort, rather a boutique hotel environment where we could stay there or walk to the local shops and restaurants. The food and drink at breakfast (included!) and the pool restaurant were fantastic. The infinity pool was amazing - views galore and monkeys and birds frequently! Incredible property and I would highly recommend it!

Excellent hotel with the best views. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The anticipated our needs and facilitated transportation from and to the airport. They also helped with tours. The pool was awesome and Yerold the pool attendant was very friendly. Lastly, their restaurant was top notch.

View from our room was spectacular, and the room and balcony were very spacious. The pools are wonderful, and the sunset views from the bar were gorgeous. But the last night of our stay was ruined by a wedding event in the restaurant. Loud disco music until 10 pm. We could hear every song and announcement since our room was just below the DJ stand. We had just come back from a full day of tiring tours and just wanted to sleep, but not possible until the music stopped. We called to complain, but the managers did not offer any help or solution.

The hotel had notified us about the event after our reservations were made, but they made it sound like it would be minor inconvenience since the restaurant would be closed. Be sure to ask about any events that are scheduled before you book.

I simply do not have enough good things to say about this hotel and the staff that work there. We had our wedding here in February of 2026. Dianny was an absolute pleasure to work with.. she was so accommodating, insightful and helpful in planning our special day. We worked with La Mariposa for a full year on creating our special day and organizing our guests to stay at the property. The vendor suggestions were fantastic, the food fantastic, the views, the wildlife - Fantastic. We will certainly be returning and staying here again.

Amazing views - 10/10 from every room

La Mariposa sits on an absolutely beautiful piece of property at the highest point in the small community of Manuel Antonio. Over a half dozen excellent restaurants are within a short walk, and many more bars and smaller restaurants. The view for the property is stunning. We stayed in unit 20 which was an excellent location. Stunning 180+ view over tropical trees towards the trees. Every morning around 7a we watched the white face capuchin monkeys play in the area around us. (Once even watching them open the sliding glass doors of our neighbor and reaching in to grab some crackers.) Very spacious room with a nice bathroom area (sink outside of bathroom). Sparsely decorated however the bed/mattress was wonderful and enjoyed having the couch which faced the sliding glass doors out to the patio. No closet yet lots of counter space. Small refrigerator and small coffee maker to make drip Costa Rican coffee in the morning.
Located in a building at a lower elevation than the main pool so it was very quiet. Yet out the front door we were just steps away from the stairs to the main pool.
The main pool is gorgeous (despite quite a few missing tiles)! An infinity pool that is about 35 meters in length, and view towards the ocean. The pool has a gentle curve again offering that 180+ panorama view.
Many chairs and two beautiful tropical almond trees that provide great shade in a couple of areas of the pool deck. Great people at the pool and chill environment. Wide range of people from families with young children to retirees.
Another great thing is that the separate bar pool is located on a different level. The classic pool bar stools at the bar and the other side dry seats. It was nice having this bar and the louder music separate from the main pool. We used both pools. There is also a large covered area with a bar on the main pool level. Bars didn’t open until 10:30a so difficult to get a mimosa or screwdriver with your vacation breakfast. Full bar however seemed to be lacking from a wider offering of blended poolside cocktails. The bar food was fine.
The free breakfast is truly a full breakfast buffet with a wide range of offering. Same gorgeous view from the large dining area which is split between being outside and also equal seating under cover but open air.
Hotel staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. The hotel and our room were spotless.
The hotel staff was also great help setting up tours for us. We also used the free shuttle to the beach. They dropped us at the beach and we were greeted by someone to help us get chairs ($15) etc.
Absolutely amazing location for this hotel; just a few finer details like nicer toiletries, plusher towels, fix the broken pool tiles, etc that would make it a true five star hotel. We would stay here again because of the view, the pool, the size of the room, location near town, and it’s an excellent value.

Absolutely beautiful hotel with the best views in Manuel Antonio! I was completely awestruck when I walked into our hotel room and saw the view. Sunset was absolutely gorgeous. Staff are courteous and welcoming. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty! We also enjoyed a lovely dinner at La Papillon. Great hotel for both couples and families!

This hotel is in an amazing location, with views across Manual Antonio to the National Park, and out across the headland toward Quepos. In the evening the Sunsets are spectacular. We had a corner room to make the most of the views, and it certainly did, with large windows enhancing the views even from inside. The Pool and Bar were great, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the Restaurant except for Breakfast, which was good although they did regularly run out of things and take quite some time to replenish it. You can see lots of wildlife without leaving the hotel, as Scarlet Macaws, Parakeets, Squirrel Monkeys and Toucans are regular visitors. The noise from the Bar can be a bit annoying at times, but it didn't go on too late so it wasn't too intrusive. They can organise Tours and provide a Shuttle service to the local beach which is excellent.

This was an excellent experience from the time we arrived. The hotel and grounds are even more beautiful than the pictures. We were in a balcony room (63) top floor of building a little walk from the main building. In the morning we were greeted by a family of capuchin monkeys running across the balconies. The sunset view from the pool bar is spectacular with great tropical drinks. Included in our room charge was a full breakfast in the morning that was delicious, including omelet station. We loved the pool bar with barstools in the water going right up to the bar. We booked excursions directly with the hotel. Restaurants are a nice walk from the hotel. We drove our car but they do offer pickup from the airport which we would probably do next time. Right now, there is construction on a bridge on the way to Manuel Antonio which can delay your time getting back to the airport. We will definitely be back

We had a wonderful stay. The hotel is in a fabulous location especially for the sunsets, however the beach is down a very long steep hill. Luckily they do have a shuttle service down to the beach area. The price you pay to get the sunsets so worth it. The rooms are very large with fabulous views. Good condition and clean but I feel they lacked personality. Bathroom definitely too dark. Wish they had supplied a kettle too to make a cup of tea as I do not drink coffee. Would have been nice to have a complimentary something in the room on arrival. The restaurant on site is very good too. Breakfast good too but they could provide a wider choice. Very samey, and compared to other high end hotels stayed at in Costa Rica. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was spotless, and comfortable with a great view of the Pacific Ocean and the national park. The vibe at the hotel was easy going which made it easy to relax after our daily excursions. The location was perfect—close to great restaurants and easy to navigate from. The views from the pool and outdoor restaurant were spectacular! We would highly recommend this hotel, and we'd happily stay here again.

The Hotel and location were amazing. Best view ever. The Staff throughout rocked and were the nicest people. Just a couple of issues that were fixed immediately. Our shower backed up the 2nd day there but was addressed right away. And our AC needed some tweaking. But the overall stay was great and I would stay again!

This is a lovely venue, the rooms have a good view with nice amenities. The rooms are a bit bare with small televisions and a tired shower but hey, who wants to stay in the room (unless it’s raining - which it is). After a very long travel day…feel silly to complain as I am kicking off a holiday, I arrive in a down pour to no help, we are driving and it was confusing entering the property and figuring out where to register. I had to climb wet slippery stairs to check-in with minimal help (luckily I am capable but if others may be a bit unstable or physically impaired, good luck). While registering I found out that there was a special event being held that evening. The dining room was closed as was most everything but great recommendation to neighbouring restaurant, Cafe Emilio’s. It was terrific! Upon return from a lovely dinner with a great view and service, I returned to relax on my balcony before an early bed time as I am zonked. I had the experience of listening to wedding speeches and now have no chance at sleep. The music is PUMPING!!! I have a noise machine with all doors closed and I might as well be at the event.

Please let me assure you, I do not want to takeaway from the wonderful couple and all their friends and family that travelled so far to celebrate, I just wish I knew what I was getting into. When I called the front desk I had to call several times and when someone finally picked up we had to yell over the music to one another so I was met with less than an accepting service person. I was told it will end at 10 pm so tough luck. Fine. I just want others to know what they are faced with if there is an event being hosted here.

We really enjoyed our stay at La Mariposa! The view from our room was AMAZING and the room was very clean! We tried all meals there and our favorite were the fish tacos at the pool bar. We were able to see monkeys, sloths and beautiful parrots all from the hotel property.

Areas to improve: We stayed in a two bedroom apartment and I thought there could be some better seating options, especially on the balcony to enjoy the gorgeous view. Two plastic chairs that were not comfortable was all that was out there. I also was disappointed that our room did not include breakfast although I did know that ahead of time, $92 for breakfast every morning was a lot- especially because we were usually rushing to a tour and that was our only option. Some of the staff was amazing but some were not very friendly or helpful.

Overall it was a great stay and we would come back again!
