Ficamos hospedados esta semana e saímos absolutamente encantados. O serviço é impecável do início ao fim. As pessoas são extremamente gentis — e não é uma gentileza protocolar, é genuína. Viajávamos com o nosso filho de cinco meses e recebemos inúmeras demonstrações de carinho e cuidado com ele, o que fez toda a diferença na experiência.

No café da manhã, fomos surpreendidos com um ursinho de presente com o nome do hotel — um gesto simples, mas muito simbólico. Na piscina, prepararam um roupão minúsculo para ele, algo realmente fofo e atencioso. Também nos disponibilizaram berço no quarto, tudo já organizado. O serviço de camareiras é irrepreensível: o quarto era arrumado pela manhã e novamente à tarde, sempre impecável.

Da recepção a todas as áreas do hotel, todos estavam sempre sorridentes, atentos e prontos para ajudar. A sensação constante é de cuidado e profissionalismo.

Sobre os restaurantes: tínhamos reserva no Midori, mas infelizmente ele não aceita crianças, e tivemos que cancelar. No Spices, o serviço foi excelente e os pratos muito bem executados, mas, para um restaurante asiático, esperávamos um pouco mais de criatividade. Ainda assim, a comida é muito boa. A grande surpresa foi o Mercato. Não criamos grandes expectativas por ser “mais um italiano”, mas a fusão da cozinha italiana com o toque do chef brasileiro — incluindo pratos com camarão e até um bobó reinterpretado — transformou a experiência em algo extremamente agradável. Jantamos lá duas noites seguidas e fomos muito bem tratados em ambas.

A estrutura física do hotel é ampla, muito bem conservada e extremamente agradável. Há muitos espaços para passeios e convivência. O estilo é clássico, mas com uma renovação recente evidente — móveis sofisticados, elegantes, tudo de muito bom gosto.

Sobre as piscinas: a interna é rasa, excelente para crianças, e com temperatura agradável — suficiente para tirar o gelo da água sem ser excessivamente quente.

Cons:

Esperávamos mais do restaurante Arola. Uma entrada que era dada como especialidade do chef estava em falta. Os demais pratos era bem medianos.

Our Dog Had the Time of Her Life!

Let's start with this. The place is beautiful, the grounds are interesting, the restaurants lovely, and if you rent a suite, you can bring your doggie! And the suites are plush! But that's just brick and mortar and nature. The real magic to this place is the staff. They treat their guests like GOLD! Honestly, every single person who works there is a gem. They simply can't do enough for you. And they do it with sincerity and professionalism. You can't put a price on that. Well, I guess you can, and in this case it's worth every penny and then some. We'll stay here again. So should you.

I stayed here for my birthday week in Portugal for two days. The concierge found a great dance show for me and also got me a birthday cake upon arrival. The staff are all very nice and helpful and the room was very comfortable! They also are very good with hotel security felt really safe on premises. That’s important for single travelers.

Great Spa experience with Zen outdoor Japanese Garden.

Monastery and ancient structure in site super cool. Michelin Star restaurants: beautiful art work, pool, views, much to offer. Thanks for a great stay hope to return!

Pros:

Le lieu est magnifique, super calme au milieu de la foret. L'etablissement est très beau, pas un aspect "business" du tout. La nourriture delicieuse, le personnel adorable. L'espace Kid est superbe aussi.

Nice and quite hotel with own golf course and spa
Pros:

We stayed at the ritz Carlton Penha longa during our visit to Portugal at the beginning of the year.

Very quite location but only easy to reach via car.

Rooms were nice and spacious and our suite looked newly renovated but the bathroom did not look new. One sink was broken and the water did not drain away. Rest of the suite was in good condition. Just some more storage space would be nice in the junior suites.

Parking is offered for free in front of the hotel.

Great breakfast offering with nice buffet and a lot of à la carte choices.

Staff really friendly and attentive.

Also golf course looked in quite good condition.

Hotel has a nice spa as well, but only indoor pool heated so outdoor pool only for swimming in the summer.

We stayed at Penha Longa during the first part of the New Year, and from the moment we arrived the experience felt intentional. Walking in, the service was immediately warm and thoughtful, but what stood out most was how they treated our daughter like a real person, not an accessory to the adults. That alone set the tone for the entire stay.
Part of our trip was to celebrate her birthday early while school was out, and the staff leaned into that in the best way possible. At check-in they brought her a small stool so she could stand at the desk alongside us, and they handed her a handwritten note addressed to her—and to us—that felt sincere and personal, not performative. It had real meaning behind it, not just polite words.
The staff went above and beyond every single day we were there. More than once it crossed into genuinely memorable. João, who I believe was the head of staff in the evenings, made a point to connect with our daughter nightly. Around 6:30 each evening he would put on a small “show” of sorts—bringing her a glass of juice just for her so she could enjoy the event without feeling left out, asking her questions, meeting her at eye level, and treating her with respect and curiosity. It mattered. When we arrived in our room, they had also brought her a cake and yet another handwritten note. These weren’t big gestures—they were thoughtful ones—and that made all the difference.
The restaurants carried that same level of care. The Italian restaurant and Spices stood out in particular, both for service and atmosphere. Two staff members—Sushima and Alexandria—went out of their way to make each dinner feel personal for our daughter, remembering her and engaging with her in a way that felt natural and kind. The food overall was very good. There were only a handful of dishes though where I thought, I’d come back just for this, but the consistency and service elevated every meal.
The wellness area was mostly excellent, though the sauna was unfortunately broken for the entire stay. That was a letdown. That said, the indoor pool area was fantastic—large, well laid out, and a great place to recover in the evenings after long days of walking. The hot tub was also well designed, and the indoor kids’ area right next door was a smart touch. The only downside there was the early closing time, which was especially noticeable with jet lag keeping us up later than usual.
The outdoor kids’ area completely exceeded expectations. More than once we joked that it felt like it was designed by a grandfather who truly loved his grandkids. It was expansive, thoughtful, and fun—culminating in an obstacle course tucked further back that was genuinely enjoyable for kids and adults alike.
The property itself is stunning. Set up in the mountains, the scenery is beautiful in every direction, and the grounds are large enough that it feels like a destination on its own. Having the abbey on site was a highlight—a perfect half-day excursion when we wanted something meaningful without going far.
Penha Longa isn’t just a luxury resort—it’s a place that understands how small, human moments shape an experience. For families especially, it’s something rare. We’ll remember this stay for a long time.
