Old Waverley Hotel

La ubicación que tiene el Hotel respecto a la ciudad y los sitios de interés está perfecta. Está cerca de todo lo imprescindible para el viaje además de tener las paradas de bus y tranvía muy cerca.

The location

I stayed at the Old Waverly Hotel with my daughter for a sightseeing trip in Edinburgh.

You really can't beat the location. I had an amazing view of the castle from my room. It was an easy walk over to the old town. I also had easy access to multiple restaurants, pubs and stores. The City Link bus from the airport dropped directly in front of my hotel and the train station was across the street. Finally the tourist bus was a 2 min walk up to St Andrew's square.

The people who worked there were friendly and the room came well equipped with coffee. It was clean and comfortable. Extra points for having cookies with the coffee service! I know they had a restaurant but I ended up just walking to local spots to eat so we never eat there.

This is not the Balmoral. It is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star hotel. It is a clean, safe hotel with a great location.

My only negatives for the hotel were the shower and the wifi.

You have to have an engineering degree to get the shower to work and even then it was not a great experience. Very narrow and the water temperature kept going up and down in the morning with so so water pressure.

I never got the Wi-Fi to show up for my phone but I was on the top floor so maybe that was it. But basically no Wifi. I did not really care since I had my phone but I can see it really bothering people.

Hands down the worst hotel/hostel experience we have ever had.

The room had no natural light — which is stated on the website — but what isn’t mentioned is the amount of bird droppings covering the “frosted” glass. It was disgusting and made the room feel neglected. The toilet cistern was so loud when refilling that we avoided flushing at night to avoid waking each other. There was also no iron or ironing board in the room despite this being advertised; we had to borrow one from reception.

The ongoing “refurbishment” created constant noise. There was drilling and banging directly above us shortly after 7am. Rooms affected by building work should not be allocated to guests expecting a restful stay.

More concerning was the payment issue. The hotel took payment for our two-night stay plus an additional £86.18 without explanation. Reception claimed it was “pending”, however my bank confirmed the funds were deducted and has escalated it as a disputed transaction. The £25 deposit was returned, but the additional £86.18 has still not been refunded over a week later despite further contact. The hotel’s Terms & Conditions state only a £25 pre-authorisation is required, so I would like clarity on why this extra amount was taken.

We did not eat breakfast in the hotel despite it being included, as the food did not appear fresh or appetising.

The only positives were the shortbread in the room — and the exit.

Posizione comodissima in pieno centro, proprio di fronte alla fermata dei bus per l'aeroporto. Colazione soddisfacente con molto assortimento di prodotti salati e un po' meno di dolci. letto comodo.

Location, staff everything was perfect

Staff were nice and friendly and accommodating. So thumbs up for them. Hotel is in a great location,
