Service great ..food great
Nothing
WiFi was not great- intermittent drops
Nice friendly staff very helpful.
Location
Lovely communal areas to relax and socialise
The bedrooms have undergone a slight refurbishment but the bathrooms lat the hotel down
Whilst general day to day cleaning is good a deep clean is required in bathrooms
Beautiful decor and function room.
The staff were very friendly and we're very attentive.
The bathroom especially the showers need up dated. We found the shower was out dated and hard to regulate and once switched off it kept dripping water.
Met up with family yesterday for birthday lunch, other couple had never been to Riverside, we have been on many occasions and always enjoyed it. As they had never been they wanted to try lunch there, they were not disappointed, food and service was excellent. They loved how you are able to sit after lunch in the lovely sitting area and have a coffee without feeling rushed to leave after lunch. A lovely relaxing day.
We were returning customers so obviously are happy with the Riverside. Rooms are comfortable, staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Lovely lounge/bar area, great decor.
Small point, it's impossible to close the bedroom doors quietly so you can hear neighbours if they retire later than you!
This was our 4th or 5th visit, and although our last stay wasn’t great, the previous ones had been brilliant. So for our wedding anniversary we decided to give it another chance with a DB&B stay. Unfortunately, it will be our last visit.
The food has dramatically deteriorated. On the Sunday night they may have been overwhelmed with a bus tour staying, but one of our starters was completely inedible and had to be sent back because it was stone cold. Breakfast on Monday morning wasn’t any better—mushrooms sitting in oil, black pudding the same, and bacon that was so undercooked it was still white with fat. Nothing looked appealing.
After “breakfast” we returned to our room only to be met with loud building work—drilling, hammering, banging—and then a false fire alarm before the drilling resumed. A simple heads-up that maintenance was taking place would have been appreciated.
Dinner on Monday night was the final disappointment. After the poor meal the previous evening, I ordered from the à la carte menu and paid the supplement for a ribeye steak with sauce. For a £40 dish, the quality was terrible. The steak was tough, incredibly chewy, and I couldn’t eat it. I told the server when the plate was cleared, yet we were still charged full price. By that point I couldn’t even be bothered arguing.
Overall, the place has really gone downhill. Service is painfully slow, and the rooms are tired and dirty. I know this all sounds very negative, but I’ve left amazing reviews for this hotel in the past. I just can’t believe how far it has fallen. Such a shame.
Location, use of parking a bonus
Wasn’t there long enough, but felt more like budget that anything else
Had afternoon tea here - was very poor. Mainly the service.
I felt that people with vouchers were treated differently. We never got our tea at all!
Had to ask a few times about drinks we had ordered.
Afternoon tea was only OK - poor sandwiches and the cakes were not as fresh as they should be. Paying cheaper prices on itison but standards shouldn't fall because of this.
