We stayed last weekend .
A lovely hotel ,clean and lovely staff .
Breakfast was plentiful .
The hotel was busy .
However I believe I had the same room as somebody else that wrote a review .
224 with a noisy generator and a drain smell from the bathroom .
We had a fantastic stay. The staff are great and welcoming and we were given the same room we were given the last time we stayed which was really thoughtful. We did have a stay a couple of weeks ago when the lounge was closed but returned when it had just opened. The layout is much better now even though they are still tweaking. It feels a more friendly atmosphere and it is easier to socialise with new faces too. David the food and beverage Manager took time to talk to us about it, keen to make any improvements to make the lounge better. Although we thought it was great. Rachana looked after everyone very well in the lounge for evening canapes. All staff at breakfast are so friendly and work hard too. There is such a great selection on offer, this should cover everyone's tastes. The beds are so comfortable and the location to the city centre, broad street and New street station are excellent and short walking distance. The lady who checked us in remembered us and was really friendly (sorry I didn't get her name) but it is nice when members of the Team remember you. Keep up the good work. This is one of our favourite hotels and will return later this year
We stayed for 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza Birmingham and we had a fantastic stay, we'd highly recommend it. From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming, professional, and eager to help.
A special mention goes to Pragya from front desk reception, who was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. We had a really long day and arrived pretty late in the evening so we were very tired at arrival but her friendly attitude and willingness to assist really stood out and made a big difference for us!
The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and well maintained.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay with outstanding customer service, once again, thank you Pragya! I would definitely return and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Birmingham.
Great location in the City centre. Hospitality can be made or broken by the staff. This hotel has the beat staff of any hotel I've stayed in for a long time. Rooms and communal areas always clean and tidy. Even with a major sports tournament going on nearby and a full hotel a member of staff was always there if you needed someone. We have another trip coming up soon and have cancelled our hotel and rebooked here !! Thank you Crown Plaza you should be proud of yourselves !!
Here for two nights whilst we watched the UK Badminton open at the Utilita Arena ( a short 10-15 min walk away). Room was really clean and large with a king size bed that was really comfortable, and well equipped with small sofa, desk, mini fridge, Iron, ironing board, kettle etc. Nice to have things like water and robes too. As expected in the centre of a city the view was just of other buildings.
Staff all very helpful and friendly, and we were able to get ice from the bar to take to our room on request. Bar prices probably what you'd expect in a hotel bar.
Breakfast buffet was a very reasonable £14 each if booked in advance ( or £16 on the day) and was always well stocked with a huge range of hot and cold items. The hot items were properly hot ( as opposed to just very lukewarm) which was great. It was very busy on both mornings but were seated straight away, and didn't notice any items that weren't kept topped up despite the numbers.
We walked to and from the arena / local restaurants and even late at night felt very safe. We booked parking just next door (through an app) which worked out at £28 in total (from 2.30pm on arrival to 11.30am when we left after 2 nights), although the hotel does have parking too, it was just more expensive.
The following are all minor issues, as we will be back to stay again in the future to explore more of the area, but just to make you aware:
Breakfast issue 1 - Disappointment was the orange juice, which was clearly long life and for us really not that pleasant ( the apple juice tasted much better).
Breakfast issue 2 - Fried eggs were cooked by a chef right on the buffet, and then placed on a 'cake rack' type rack for people to help themselves - fine in theory but actually quite tricky in practice as they are so slippery (suggest the hotel managers try it for themselves!). This bit is in the middle of the hot food buffet, so causes delays and people to bunch around which is awkward. Would make much more sense at least for the eggs to be cooked at the end of that bit, so people who don't want a fried egg don't get caught up in a line of people waiting for one. On reading other reviews I can see this has been raised before so would be really good to know why its not been addressed before?
Room issue 1 - our room had a door to allow it to be connected to the room next door (which wasn't in use) but it has no soundproofing on it. This meant we could hear every word of phone calls being made in the room next door. Not a major issue but not sure our 'neighbours' realised!!!
Room issue 2 - this has been mentioned by other reviewers too. The heating / cooling system can be very noisy at times
As stated above though these are minor issues, and we will be back :-)
Stayed for 2 nights. Everything was super. Room was clean, service was excellent. Pragya was kind and friendly. Truly a gem. Thank you.
Pragya was very helpful and polite and made it a very welcoming experience for me and my partner
Love this place. Ideally placed to explore the city.
My mom is diamond IHG member and has been before so she booked a suite, this effectively gave us a room each- the sofa in living area was converted into a great bed for me.
Reception staff really courteous to all guests but recognised the IHG status, which was nice.
F &b great, cocktails/mocktails were great as was quality and choice of food. Service spot on too, thanks to Hans and co 👌
Housekeeping impressive, great attention to detail and suite was massive.
Thanks to all, will definitely return.
This is a good quality hotel in a very central location. Our room looked like it had been recently refurbished with nice modern furnishings, huge comfortable bed, desk, tea and coffee, robes etc. For the size of room the TV was perhaps a bit small and not as well connected as in some other hotels.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of good quality choices. Despite being very busy the cheerful staff kept everything running very efficiently. The receptionist was helpful and nice. Spotlessly clean throughout.
The lifts appeared to be under service when we were there with at one point only 1 of 4 apparently working. It’s a pity there is no lift from the car park as the steps are in poor repair and quite slippery.
It’s not the hotels fault but there are a lot of roadworks in the vicinity, so worth checking travel times as the most direct route is closed as of now.
Based ourselves here while attending a funeral. 3 of us shared a room which was very spacious & clean.
The breakfast was excellent & plenty of choices available.
But by far the very best thing about this hotel was the staff - exceptional!
The staff make this place really quite special. We’ve stayed in far more expensive hotels and haven’t received anything like the same service. The stand outs are Gemma and Sylvia but they’re all really good. We had a suite which is lovely. It’s mid range in terms of quality of decor and furniture but it’s got everything you need and more. Location is great. The club lounge was shut which meant breakfast etc was in the main bar a restaurant. All good there. Second time we’ve been and won’t be the last.
Booked this hotel for 1 night as we were seeing the Strictly Live Tour at Utilita Arena & it was close by.
Check in was easy & the communal areas were pleasant with a nice smell. The room was modern, nicely decorated & very large with 2 double beds with lovely white crisp linen. The bathroom was very nice & had complimentary shower gel, shampoo etc. Everything was lovely & clean.
Breakfast was included in the price & was very very good, the selection was amazing & the quality excellent. Everything was fresh & tasty.
Every staff member we encountered, was smiley, polite & helpful.
We did go up to the 9th & 11th floors to look at the Sky Bar & Longe but they are in the process of being refurbished.
We had a wonderful stay & will definitely be back.
Stayed for 1 night. Central location. Efficient check in/check out. Friendly, professional staff.
Booked a king double which was comfortable, clean and spacious. Bathroom had shower gel, shampoo in refillable dispensers, decent quality towels and dressing gowns. Bed was super comfy too.
My only complaint with the room was the air con/heating which was notably noisy when on.
Lifts were good, no long waits at peak times which was handy.
Breakfast was good. The layout of the room could be improved though. The cereals and pastries were located in the middle surrounded by tables which made it a little awkward to navigate.
We thought the hotel overall was good value.
The location of the hotel is perfect if arriving in Birmingham by train, it’s no more than a 5 minute walk, so very convenient.
The reception and bar area I would say have been modernised and spacious. The checkin staff were very polite and efficient.
I was in room 210 so a view from the front of the room. Located away from the lifts and being carpeted corridors I was hoping for a quiet evening.
The room was spacious with 2 double beds, plenty of lighting including bedside lights, mirrors and a large desk area and hot drink facilities. There are plenty of plug and USB sockets available. The bathroom is spacious for 1 person at a time. There was a walk in shower with a fixed panel and no sliding door (no doubt for a safety reason). However, workable. Shampoo and body wash are wall mounted and were full. The towels and bedding were clean and felt they had been well cared for.
The aircon unfortunately was encased on the wall than in the ceiling and was noisy at random occasions during the night. However, being distruptive the noise lasted less than 60 seconds. Around 7/8am the toilet / shower made a gargling noise as a result I would assume to the hotel water/waste systems being used by other guests.
The room / hotel was very quiet despite it being a Saturday and the last weekend before Christmas as I expected late night revellers to be disruptive. However, the other guests were very quiet.
I would say the customer service and comfort deserved a 5/5 in the rating. However, due to the annoyance of the above then I feel other guests should be made of the issues I encountered in this particular room 210.
Would I stay again? Yes if I knew these issues were resolved.
I stayed at this hotel for business on 16th December 2025 and was must say very much enjoyed how polite and friendly the domestic staff were.
Unfortunately room 303 had an issue with I presume the door draft and from 3am onwards there was an incredibly loud and high pitched sound that was constant through to the morning.
When checking out I asked if I could speak with management just to inform them of this and show them the videos I took to show the issue. This polite request was declined which is a real shame.
Overall a lovely hotel, with great domestic staff but I was not able to sleep past around 3am.
Will definitely be using this hotel again for our next event! Great spaces, and staff were very attentive especially our host Nikola
I recently planned a Christmas trip into Birmingham for my wife and I… bit of shopping, the Christmas market, dinner and thought we’d make a night of it and stay over.
Previously we’ve stayed in Malmaison, but for a change I thought we’d try IHG Crowne Plaza and booked a premium room on the top floor.
Very sadly, two days before our planned trip my wife’s grandad’s health took a sudden turn for the worse. The doctors gave him hours, or at best days and started administering end of life care. He died 3 days later.
Given the circumstances, we obviously could not go ahead with our planned trip. We contacted IHG Crowne Plaza (both directly and via our 3rd party booking agent) the day before our reservation to explain the situation and ask if we could move our booking.
To our surprise, IHG Crowne Plaza’s response was a flat, cold “no refunds per policy etc etc”… not even an acknowledgement of the sad circumstances.
I understand that our original reservation was not a “flexible” reservation and so their response is in line with their “policy”. However, we were only asking to MOVE our reservation, not cancel it and claim a refund. Even more staggering is the total absence of any acknowledgement of the situation or given the circumstances, any element of discretion on “policy” from IHG Crowne Plaza.
We stay in hotels a fair amount and have never experienced anything like this. I’m disgusted with IHG Crowne Plaza’s cavalier approach to customer service and will NEVER book an IHG brand again.
Regarding our stay on Tuesday 2nd December, everything was perfect from the young man who checked us in, Dave at Concierge, bar staff, and the breakfast in the morning, especially for sorting out items for me as i have Coeliac Disease, the manager working in the breakfast area Wednesday morning really knew her stuff regarding allergens, thank you so much!
We look forward to visiting again!
Lovely hotel, very clean and modern as you would expect. Room and bathroom very well appointed, and spotlessly clean. Sam on reception was excellent at check in and check out.
Everything was perfect until the breakfast. Very badly laid out hot food buffet with a chef cooking fried eggs in a small pan at the buffet. This results in a queue of over 25 people waiting to reach the hot food buffet, regardless of your food choices... the queue then gets confused with new residents coming to breakfast and thinking it's the queue to enter the restaurant. It really spoiled our stay and I wouldn't return until the breakfast layout is changed.
This hotel was so cozy and the service was great my bed was set every morning breakfast was very delicious and fresh. Central location to the city aswell
