Just come back from a stay at the midland, the hotel is lovely and the room was very nice.
We ordered a bottle of Malbec from the bar for £43 plus 12.5% all in all about £48 and I have to say it tasted like a cheap bottle of wine. When I got home I checked it out and you can buy it for just over £12, I get you have a mark up on these things but I don’t appreciate paying nearly £50 for a bottle of wine that tasted more like it was worth £12…..don’t think we will be drinking in there again!
Fifi at the front desk was a breath of fresh air & made me feel very welcome! I arrived at the reception desk without a booking and very flustered in the hope of getting a room, Fifi assisted me in getting a room but with an upgrade & a free drinks. Only 1hr into my stay and I already feel relaxed. Give the girl a raise 💫
We stayed in a Midland Suite for one night. The was great for the size of the room - separate bedroom and living areas and a nice bathroom with a large shower.
The service levels let us down though.
Website says 3pm check in so we arrived at 3.30pm. Told the room wasn’t ready and we could have a complimentary drink in the bar and she would come and get us. She said it would be 30 minutes maximum. After 40 minutes I went back to the desk to be told she had forgotten about us. We got to our room and our luggage had been delivered as promised.
At 8.10pm I ordered room service and was told it would take 30-40 minutes. At 9.10pm it hadn’t arrived so I called back. No answer so I rang reception who called back to say it was on its way up from the kitchen. At 9.20pm it hasn’t arrived so I called room service and the same woman who took my order more than an hour ago told me she had no record of my order. So I ordered again and lodged a complaint with reception. The food arrived 15 minutes later and was delicious. We got a discount and a complimentary drinks voucher but we didn’t have time to use this.
Everything about our stay was perfect. Very welcoming staff throughout the hotel.
The room was amazing and the location was great for exploring Manchester
We opted for the junior suite this time and we'll worth the extra. All the windows on both sides of the suite on the top floor gave wonderful views of Manchester with its old architecture sitting at ease with the modern buildings.
The bed was really comfy as were the settee and chairs. There was a coffee machine as well as individual coffee packets. Complimentary water, newspapers, Elemis bathroom products, an easy to operate safe and a desk in the corner. So much thought and detail to create this relaxing environment.
The bathroom was shower only which suited us. Monsoon overhead shower as well as the wall shower. In the shower there was a small alcove built into the wall at waist level to hold the soap, shampoo etc. Heated bath rail, large wall mirror that doesn't steam up is a bonus.
There is a 50 inch tv which is a few feet away from the foot of the bed. Unlike some hotels, you won't need binoculars because the tv is too small.
Outside the hotel there is a curious mix of old and new architecture, and inside, the Midland has combined the old building (1903) with a modern upgrade that doesn't diminish the original.
The tea room is a must do experience, really decadent with the various teas, cakes and sandwiches. The champagne bar seems to be the central attraction . It is best to sit near the bar for a quicker service as some chairs are occupied by those who simply wish to relax or read.
There is so much on offer at the Midland that it must be a repeat experience for many guests.
We were rescued by the lovely Charlie on Reception having walked next door from the dreadful hotel we had stayed in the night before and had almost no sleep due to the hardest bed we’d ever slept on. It was the morning of my birthday and we needed a new hotel to check into for the second night of my birthday weekend treat. Charlie was empathic and assigned us a lovely room with a VERY comfortable 6ft bed, beautiful high ceilings and quiet location. The staff here are attentive, offer a smile and a ‘good morning/afternoon’ whenever you make eye contact. The background piano music in the bar and at breakfast is a great touch, really elevates the experience and adds class. Thanks for coming to the rescue The Midland. We will be back.
The hotel is in a great location, with lovely rooms and very comfortable beds. Unfortunately, our room was situated near the air conditioning units, which produced a constant loud humming noise throughout the night, making it difficult to sleep.
Breakfast was generally very good; however, one member of staff made both my son and me feel extremely uncomfortable. The looks and perceived judgement from her were quite upsetting, and we ended up leaving shortly after because of it.
Overall, this experience unfortunately spoiled what could have been a great stay. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
We had a really lovely stay at The Midland Hotel in early April whilst attending a show at the Opera House.
The location was perfect and its location made getting around Manchester easy, it is located next to St Peters Square where you can board the trams to anywhere across Manchester.
The hotel has an impressive reception and lobby and feels grand as soon as you arrive and smells amazing!
There are disabled parking bays, operated by Manchester City Council directly opposite the hotel which do get busy but are really helpful if staying at the hotel.
All the staff we met during our stay were welcoming, approachable and genuinely friendly. Harman was efficient and welcoming on check in.
Our room, Room 333 was an executive room and was huge, well-appointed comfortable and clean. The bed was really comfortable. The room had everything we needed for a short stay, including luxury Elemis toiletries. The shower was great, with plentiful hot water.
The only downside was the air conditioning didn’t work for the duration of our stay, so the room was warmer than we’d have liked. It meant we didn’t sleep so well for our first night. We would have also liked pillow protectors to be used on the pillows on the bed.
You can hear the trams due to the location of the hotel, but we had taken earplugs, so they didn’t bother us too much.
Breakfast was exceptional, it was one of the best breakfasts we have had in a hotel There was a vast selection which included fruit, cooked items and some amazing pastries. We loved the butter provided at breakfast, it was really tasty.
Overall, a great stay and we’d happily return.
My husband and I celebrated my 70th birthday with an afternoon tea and the whole afternoon was just lovely. The staff in particular Maizie were excellent, friendly yet professional. Their service was truly wonderful, the food delicious and full of flavour. Truly a memorable afternoon
I went here with family for the Afternoon Tea to celebrate a birthday.
Location is very well situated, being right next to the tram stops in the middle of the city centre.
Inside looked out of this world, I’ve never been to a place like this before.
The staff here were brilliant, very friendly and helpful.
The afternoon tea itself was very good. Some of the cakes on selection were some of the best I’ve had in my entire life – and I am now hooked on Lapsang Souchong after trying it here today.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this experience.
Beautiful stay at the midland. Excellent staff & comfy beds. We will be returning!!
The staff were extremely helpful and polite, the room was very relaxing and the general ambience of the place was magnificent. Also, the location was very handy for visits to local attractions such as the local Science Museum.
We love staying in the Midland simply because the service is wonderful
From start to finish
You arrive and meet guest relations who check you in and will help with anything
The rooms are warm, spacious and very classy inside.
We are always met with a little hand written note welcoming us back a charming little box of chocolates
We always eat in one of their fantastic restaurants
This time we ate in the Mount Street
The menu is quite small however the food is absolutely top class
Our waitress Nicole was the best waitress we have come across in years
She was knowledgeable and simply lovely
She helped us with selecting our deserts and her choice was remarkable
The rice pudding with orange was absolutely superb
We left the restaurant and both agreed that we will start coming to the restaurant even when we are not staying at the hotel
The Chefs 👩🍳 clearly are top draw.
We then had a few drinks in the bar
The other thing that I like is that the price s are very reasonable
If you stay at a top hotel you expect to pay more as you have the wonderful surroundings but here the prices are fare and the surroundings are fabulous
So to sum up
Another fantastic stay and can not wait to come back.
Wonderful staff and a fantastic hotel
Steve & Wendy
I enjoyed my stay at the Midland
Great location in the heart of Mcr
The rooms were comfortable and well equipped, with nice Elemis toiletries and a good coffee machine and water. My only
small gripe with the room was the tv didn’t work well and only picked up bbc1.
Breakfast was really good with high quality food and a great selection
Staff on arrival and restaurant were supper friendly
I’ll certainly return when next working in Manchester
We have stayed at the Midland Hotel five times and have never been disappointed, from the moment you walk in the door. The fragrance that greats you is amazing ( we need to know what it is) then the friendly and so helpful staff. The food and the settings are just amazing with only the highest of quality. We stayed 15 March 2026 and what a treat. Julian was at front of house and wow he is really in the perfect position. From the out set he was professional, friendly and very engaging. At check in he asked what we were planning to do with our time in Manchester and based on our response he made it very very special.
On your day of check in if your room is not ready you can leave your luggage and then carry on with enjoying yourselves and then on the day of check out if you still have things you wish to do then again you can leave your luggage and collect when ready. Just the most amazing service and made to feel special from start to finish. We look forward to returning
Great stay. The location is really good and the room was lovely and spacious with very comfortable beds. The pool is small but good if not too many people in. We were checked in by Fifi, who was very professional and helpful and explained everything as it was our first stay at the hotel. It was nice to be greeted by a friendly face as this is the first impression you get. . The breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable. Would stay here again definitely.
The experience at the hotel was excellent, and the treatment from Holly, the duty manager, was superb. We really enjoyed our stay and the service we received while we were there.
Sadly, after we left, we realised we had left some items in the room. When we called the hotel, we spoke to a gentleman called Dimitri, who told me he was the reception manager. Unfortunately, the way he spoke to us was very disappointing. He was extremely rude and would not allow me to explain the situation properly. He repeatedly interrupted and was dismissive, which was quite upsetting given how positive the rest of our stay had been.
It’s a shame that such a good experience was spoiled by the way this was handled afterwards.
This was a treat for my partner and I and overall it was good. Location is great but the price of being central is that the trams are right there outside your window passing every few minutes. Can’t be helped but just be aware.
Lovely atmosphere, nice reception and bar area with great service. Was able to book one hour complimentary use of the spa on arrival but the spa is very small, has a pool, sauna and jacuzzi etc but all bijou!
Executive king room was ok, huge and very comfortable bed, tv only received a few channels but didn’t really matter. Air conditioning didn’t work, oil filled rad provided instead which was useful however a little surprising for an ‘executive’ room. Breakfast well organised and yummy.
Overall a good stay but book on a deal if you can …
Honestly, I just love this hotel. Loads of history and some amazing stories come from this place but I love the welcome from Reception, the amazing bar on the Ground floor. I had dinner here as I was dining alone and nothing was too much trouble for the waiters and staff and the breakfast is amazing. I was lucky enough to have a room on the Mezzanine floor which was truly amazing. I won’t stay anywhere else when visiting Manchester. Thank you for truly the best stay
Really enjoyed my visit to the Midland. It’s really well placed and close to lots of restaurants and shops. Rooms were spacious and well maintained. Breakfast was excellent. Only minor niggle was that the room temperature was very hot and difficult to lower without keeping the fan on all night. The windows can’t be opened so this is an option. I would definitely stay again.
