Be warned! The privately managed car park (Private Eye) charged me £30 for an overnight stay that I didn’t have to pay despite registering my car details with reception. I contacted the hotel only to be told that they cannot assist me and I have to contact Private Eye. Shocking …
Lovely stay! Super close to town so good if you are having a night out on town! You can also walk back from the town centre in 30mins.
Comfy beds / not too much noise and sat right on the Thames so makes for a lovely walk in the morning! We had breakfast then went for a lovely walk, saw the swans and just enjoyed being so close to the water
We checked in on the first day at around 3:00 PM and went to our room, but there was no bed prepared for my daughter, the third person. We spent 45 minutes trying to make the bed with one of the housekeeping staff because the people who were supposed to prepare the room hadn’t done it. At check-in, we were told the pool would close at 8:00 PM. However, due to the delay with the bed and other things, we didn’t get to the pool until around 4:30 PM. Then we were told the pool would close at 5:00 PM, and at about 4:45 PM, the pool attendant told us to leave. Honestly, we were very annoyed and disappointed.
The entire hotel was cold—the room, the corridors, the reception, the restaurant—everywhere was freezing. During breakfast, a staff member gave me a stern look because I didn’t eat the eggs I didn’t like. She was not polite at all.
On the bright side, due to the issues we faced on the first day, the receptionist offered us a free breakfast for the second day and allowed us to use the pool after checkout. However, I don’t think we’ll be coming back to this hotel. As a family, we didn’t like it at all.
Our stay was alright. The room was clean and comfortable. Don't like the shower curtain, they are very unhygienic. The breakfast was nice but the food warmers do tend to dry up the cooked food and the eggs were not runny as the yolks had set with the time they were in the warmer. The hash browns were just warm so think that particular warmer was either off or faulty. The orange juice was empty for quite a while before it was filled so I didn't get to try it. The sausages were delicious but was only browned on one side and the bacon was dried. A choice of having muselli would be nice.
This hotel is soon to be closed for refurbishment and it shows! Most of the facilities were closed during our stay. Rooms need updating and lots of damp / condensation. Staff were not attentive. Avoid.
The team and staff very friendly thoughout the weekend. Breakfasts were good and varied. The room its self was tiny for the three of us. Really squeezed with the sofa bed folded out
Overnight visiting family in Emmer Green.
I had a very disappointing experience at the hotel. We booked the stay to celebrate our anniversary, but right from the start, things went wrong. Upon arrival, we inquired about the jacuzzi, only to find out it was broken.
Later that evening, we requested an extra duvet for our family (2 adults and a child). After some time, we had to call reception again to remind them. When the duvet finally arrived, the staff member mentioned that the towel rods in the room were also broken and that maintenance would be notified.
The situation got worse when we tried to open the sofa bed—it wouldn’t budge. After calling reception, they assured us it would be fixed in 15 minutes. 15 minutes later, I called again, only to be told the sofa bed was broken, without anyone ever coming to check on it. I’m baffled as to why a room meant for three people (2 adult and child)was provided with a broken sofa bed.
Eventually, we were given a basic folding cot, which was uncomfortable and far from what I expected in a 4-star hotel. I’ve attached pictures to show the poor quality of the cot.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and in hindsight, choosing this hotel was a big mistake.
Not a bad hotel in a beautiful position by the river. We weren’t happy about being put in a room in the first floor directly above somebody else’s disco playing very loud music until midnight.
The room was freezing and the duvet was too thin for December. The manager and a few members of staff were rude and unhelpful, however we found out the hotel was shutting down at the end of December and everyone was being made redundant so maybe that was why staff were unbothered, except for the guy in the spa area who was very helpful.
The location is good and the spa is good. Other than that we would not stay here again.
What IHG do not tell you is that the hotel is closing 31st December. After staying at the
Marlow crowne plaza last month we were looking forward to our stay and having more of the exceptional crowne plaza experience - couldn't have been more different. The vibe on arrival was drab and I've never been checked in so quickly and with so little chat before. As an IHG member I'm use to room upgrades nothing, we had booked an inclusive dinner and breakfast rate - dinner was shocking - items not available and the rib eye steak had been flattened to a thin piece of paper and was tough and the fish and chips was bland frozen fish. The room was comfortable but no dressing gowns etc ... and then when we went to breakfast we were informed by staff that they had recently been notified of redundancy taking effect on the 31/st December and the hotel is closing. Such a shame as had we have known we would have still booked but expectations would have been different, all it has done has changed my overall impression of the IHG brand.
I have stayed at this hotel more times then I can remember over the last twenty years .
Myself and family stayed with you for one night on the Friday night 22nd of November.
I booked two rooms and upon booking months in advance i requested two rooms in close proximity as my mother is registered disabled and as one of her carers needed to be close in order to assist should I need too .
I was assured that although you couldn’t guarantee the rooms next door or opposite each other that you could accommodate them not far from each other as I booked months in advance . May I add this has always been accommodated in the past .
When I checked in I felt very disappointed that the rooms were absolutely miles away from each and although on the same floor the rooms were opposite ends of the floor . I spoke to reception at the time and found them very dismissive with very poor customer service skills . And did not seem to care or try to help in any way .
My parents room was lovely and they slept well of which I am thankful . However my room was freezing cold and the heating did not work ! And had to sleep fully clothed . I felt that the music was far to load . I appreciate there was a party however music went on far too long . With no consideration for other guests or at least warning to other guests of the hotels plans .
Checked out this morning with hotel reception again awful customer service . Informed no heating etc . Again no apologies and didn’t seem to care .
I am absolutely appalled by this as I’ve said previously I’ve been staying at the plaza for twenty yrs and never had such an awful experience.
I’ve also made a formal complaint of which I am still waiting for a reply again awful customer service.
We loved everything about the Hotel and will definitely stay again.
The hotel was very welcoming, clean and well maintained. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant & helpful
The hotel is well situated and has its own car park, although it’s £15 per 24 hrs to stay. The hotel is good but needs updating. The bathrooms especially. The water pressure wasn’t great.i had to use the disabled bathroom because the female lobby toilets were locked and was disappointed to see that hadn’t been cleaned well with dried pee/drips stains on the floor. The lobby and bar was updated, butchered bar staff could have been more fun and friendly, it was busy and could have made more money with a good atmosphere. Breakfast was ok but not really enough room for guests given the size of the hotel. Lots of waiting guests waiting to be seated.
The facilities wasn't bad, the interior lounge/entrance was nice and quite appealing in terms of scenery.
But, the room wasn't that great, I do feel as though, it's in need of an upgrade as I purchased the upgraded suite with the balcony and still wasn't pleased. The wallpaper was peeling off and folding in on itself. Also the TV refuses to stream and mirror devices even though it offers the option.
Overall the experience was ok, but that's because I'm nice but I do feel that it needs an upgrade.
The overnight spa was a gift for my husband's birthday, but unfortunately, it didn't meet our expectations. The spa was overcrowded, noisy, and poorly organized. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the massage, Sara was amazing, kind, and highly professional. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of our room, particularly the toilet, sink, and floor, all of which were dirty. Additionally, we found a ring in the bathroom, likely left by a previous guest. On a positive note, the food was excellent, tasty and delicious. Despite being understaffed, the service was well managed. Both waitresses were attentive, helpful, and kind, making the dining experience enjoyable.
Lovely location by the river. Very comfortable stay. Very nice spa facilities. Very nice room and comfy beds. Only thing that let it down , receptionist on check out was not very friendly.
As expected, good reception - food was good and service excellent.
Having recently returned from holiday we wanted to stop over in a hotel instead of driving home while still tired.
We chose the Crowne Plaza in Reading as it advertised a spa.
We couldn't be any happier with the whole package, from the evening meal which was made exceptional by the excellent treatment from Dawn, Antonia, Tracey and Sunil, who made Catherine's birthday very special.
The breakfast buffet the next day was one of the best that I have had in many years, with great quality food and pleasant service from the blonde haired lady (sorry did not get her name) and the other staff.
The pool, sauna and steam room were all very good and served my purposes very well.
First time in Reading, but would not hesitate to stay there again especially considering the amazing accommodation and meal deal which we took advantage of.
Thank you Crowne Plaza
